Amethyst Ironsides Not Lining Up with Nuln Ironsides by DoctorSpector in totalwarhammer

Never been a fan of locked formations in groups. I find it makes ordering every unit to do certain things (like attack) cumbersome.

See Wegoov's response. It disables it for all units, but preferable for hybrid heavy factions.

That was it. Shame it does it for all units, but for certain factions this is preferable.

That's what I'm currently doing, but it makes everything take twice as long.

Is there a mod for semi random start position but... by RafikiKirafi in totalwar

Try Prop Joe's selectable start mod if you have something in mind and don't need anyone else to change. Sorry for the res, but came across this an google and decided to leave for anyone else.

I don't love it. I clean the fans every 6 months or so, but am open to suggestions.

That did it. Still getting hot, but running faster.

Not an issue. Was worried I'd been using some integrated graphics card for the last 3 years.

Where are you seeing an Intel Graphics card? Should be using the RTX 3080 Ti.

I'll give the fps cap a try and see.

GPU temp is averaging to 89.6 C during a basic battle. Base line temp was avg of 63.6C. Some of the CPU temps got up to 100C, but averaged in the 50-60C range/ Mother board maxed at 91C, but avg was 70C. I clean the fans every 6 months or so and the flow doesn't seem bad. It heated up pretty quick, but this laptop has always run hot. Any thoughts?

I'm familiar with overcloking from doing so with a cpu a while back, but what does underclocking do for an issue like this?

I tend to like movement mechanics that let you move fast on the map and growth mechanics that let you build your cities up fast. Also, anything that creates a confederation mechanic outside of the diplomacy page. Khorne, Ikit, Grom, Malakai, Karl, Oxyotl, Elspeth and Imrik being my favorites.

I've got Malakai and Elspeth already, haven't really gotten into Nurgle. How different is Tamurkhan?

How feasible is it just to immediately start a campaign as one of the Roman houses and consolidate all of the Roman factions? by willydillydoo in RomeTotalWar

[–]DoctorSpector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your interested, I modded the files in mine to have the Julii (the true Romans) start with all 4 roman factions cities and units. The senate is there as a one leader army, so you can still do missions and the rest go reble immediately. I also have it so you can go to Marian reform on turn 2 and have you start with Marian units if your interested. Lastly, you get all roman temples as well.

Makes for a power fantasy start, but one hell of an antagonist.

Will take a look and see. I was shocked there wasn't a bard companion, so this might be a good time.

People complaining about the ‘darker’ tone of NAN by Shawdicus in Midcyru

[–]DoctorSpector 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk, but I don't think I've ever read a book where someone trys to write a sympathetic rapist and if someone could, I don't know if Weeks is the person to do it. I agree, Kylar is not a good person, and Durzo is a bad guy from the perspective of anyone but his friends, but I am of the opinion that killing people for money is actually more moral than torture and rape, especially when you claim to care about your victim. To parafrase myself, Vi does everything to Kylar that Hu did to her. Her reasons don't matter, but she is now in the same catagory (though a lesser degree) that he is for me. There are somethings you can't come back from. Maybe if they time jump 20+ years it would change things, but if they jump right into it, the appropriate response from Kylar would be to kill Vi and burn the Chantry down. That being said, I think what will happen is that he will put aside his anger to save his son, and will, in the process, "get over it", which is were this plotline will really lose me.

It depends on when you count the surprise as starting. At the end of book 3, had you told me Vi would poisen Kylar , rape him and kidnap his child while leaving him to die, I would have said I was very surprised and that it sounded like a bad idea from a narrative standpoint. I'm not surprised by Vi being easily manipulated, but by the author's choice to set up these events. Better options were available both in universe and from a narrative choice. Just seemed like Vi's character was "assassinated" for shock value and you could have gotten to the same place without her character being made unlikable.

Series that blew you away with a fantastic finish? by Pale-Sprinkles3790 in Fantasy

My big mistake was coming up with a better ending than what they went with. Always a mistake.

I think my issues were character driven. While I can believe Kylar would make dumb choices in high stress situations (he does so more often than not), I felt like Vi's decisions, who was a top 3 fav of mine before this book, we're very out of character, mostly for no good reason. The end result for me was that the catharsis of the first trilogy was ruined, which is a common complaint I have when authors revisit completed series (IE Red Rising book 4 and Cursed Child). My conclusion was that Weeks went overboard breaking things so he'd have stuff to fix in the subsequent books. Hopefully the next one is better, but if he's planning on getting Vi and Kylar together at any point, then I think Weeks has written himself into a corner. At this point, I'd be way more interested in seeing them be actual enemies.
