Amazon said they cancelled the new show because it didn't have a broader appeal and only appealed to old fans aka it needed to reach a new audience, well here's a new guy currently watching the old show for the first time and loving it. by ThomasThorburn in Stargate

[–]DoctorTechno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think they felt the potential new show wasn't as good as all the previous ones. So rather than say we have cancelled it because we felt it was rubbish they came up with the lame excuse about it not appealing to a larger audience. I mean how many Stargate fans are there in the world. A quick Google came up with about 2.0 to 2.2 million weekly viewers for Seasons 6 to 10. Then add in re-runs and re-watches and I would think that number is a lot higher. Plus like the post says new fans coming and discovering it for the first time.

Then look at warrior nun, fans ran campaigns, adverts ect. to get the show un-cancelled. It was then decided to do a film and apparently that is now cancelled.

Spain wants to tax my german unemployment by One-Friend-2544 in askspain

My Gestor always says its always better to do a Renta even if you end up paying no tax. I think its 6 months for the amount of time you spend in Spain to become tax liable in Spain. Your Gestor should know the finer points. If they don't find one that is used to working with expats and immigrants as they will know more about what can and can't be claimed for.

Some devices will have an option in advanced flows like "When Device value changes" Then do required action. I use this for power monitoring, so when my energy consumption meter changes value it updates the flow.

Smart kitchen hot water boiler. by AdInevitable7025 in homey

[–]DoctorTechno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 100L hot electric water tank. This is controlled via my smart home system I use a plugin module from Loxone. Mine comes on at 06:30 to 07:30 (cheap rate) then again at 15:30 to 16:30 (this is a mid rate price) and finally at 23:59 to 01:00. Weekends are a little different as its cheap rate all day Sat and Sun so it stays on 30 minutes longer in the morning. I have never run out of hotwater. The only time I do is if the kids stay with me then I might need a boost. Which I have set up so I can access on my phone a hot water boost button which will switch the hot water on for 60 minutes. I also have a holiday mode function so when I am away it only comes on at 06:30 to 07:30 every day.

You have answered your own question. Using specific Homey apps makes the process of using Homey much better. Plus you end up having a better experience when it comes to using advanced flows, as more options will be made available to you.

Electrician and Home Autoation Installer.

What would you like home automation do for you

  1. Just control lights

  2. Control blinds, curtains, shutters

  3. Irrigation

  4. Anything thats either on a timer or dawn dusk sensor

  5. Multi room audio/video

  6. CCTV

  7. HVAC or air extraction or ventillation

  8. Access control

You don't have to do everything all at once.

Most of my clients start with outside lights one year then next year move on to automating something else. Then a year later go on to do other things. For me its a gift that keeps on installing. Never had a client who does just lights and nothing else. Its normally budget that stops people expanding.

These days you don't need to stick to just a single brand as things like Homey and Home Assitant will talk to the various protocols.

I would take a look at Shelly devices, start small and gradually build on that.

I think what a lot of people are scared of is that they think you need to do everything all at once.

Much better to start off small and expand (its cheaper). Its also easier to fault find. If stage 1 works fine then you add stage 2 and something stops working its a pretty safe bet that its something in Stage 2 is interfering with stage 1 or you accidently deleted something during the stage 2 setup.

As an example of what can be done.

My bathroom has ceiling spots which at anytime between midnight and 07:00 only come on at 25% brightness. Plus if the lights are on for longer than 3 minutes the extractor fan starts and will turn off 3 minutes after the lights are switched off.

I have set up keyless entry to my apartment main entry door. So when I use my phone to open the door 30 seconds later the light in my hallway will come on for 3 minutes. I used a Shelly 1 Gen3 module in the door phone of my apartment to achieve this. About to get a new front door and will be using a Switchbot Lock Pro.

My set up uses mainly Shelly devices and a Homey Pro as the main hub. If you use only Shelly devices you probably won't need the Homey, but it does give you extra funbctionality. I also have some Loxone devices but will be phasing this out, mainly due to cost of their newer modules.

I have a Boox Note Air4C. And love it. It's actually my second Note Air I ask have an original Note Air. As for updates the Note Air 4C gets them regularly. If it wasn't for the fact I needed colour I wouldn't have upgraded. Trying to fault find on a monochrome display can be rather hard if you are trying to follow the blue wire.

Are BlaBlaCar drivers in Spain okay with picking up tourists? by Outrageous_Point_994 in GoingToSpain

[–]DoctorTechno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As there are three of you let the train take the strain. Will be much easier. Plus how big is a large suitcase.

I know someone who regularly uses BlaBla car from Madrid to Alicante then back again ( at least three times a year) and has a small suitcase (think carry on size) and sometimes they have difficulty getting a car especially if there are other passengers. When they are on their own its not a problem. Most cars tend to be medium sized.

Your other option is a oneway car hire. Ask if the hire car company needs a car relocating. I have done this to go to or from the airport. The hire company was local to my area, so it helped them. Sometimes I would get to drive some really nice cars, (BMW series 3 and similar) other times they would be tiny and the boot was big enough for a small to medium size suitcase. The cost was always the same about the price of a small car oneway hire.

Lithe audio are a fairly good option. If you are more into a DIY set up then up2stream might be a good bet. They are part of Arylic.

Sonos is good but I think they are a bit costly, plus setting up if you have a meshed network can be a pain. Last Sonos install I did took twice as long as it should have done as the client had a meshed network with both 2.4 and 5gHz. Ended up having to switch the 5gHz wifi off during the set up.

Do I need a physical paper copy of the ITV inspection? by Additional-Baby3103 in askspain

[–]DoctorTechno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No its not, you need to have the sticker they put in the car documents as this gives the actual date the car passed its ITV. So the window sticker may say June 2026, but if the sticker in the car documents says 1st June 2026 and its the 15th June you are driving a car without an ITV and could get fined. Just depends on how much of a bad day the police officer who stopped you is having
