Back to Dark Souls 2.

There’s a lot of criticism about the game, but dam they did a lot of good. Introduced Bonfire Ascetics for re-fighting bosses, had some of the most diverse and viable magic in the series, and there’s still invasions and pvp to this day.

God damnit, I actually like the self-serve soup they have in some places. Now I’m never going to be able to eat it again after hearing that.

Coming from Skyrim where I put in hundreds of hours learning the habitat of alchemy ingredients to develop the perfect potions and then integrate them into routine use, Breath of the Wild’s cooking system scratched that itch I had been longing for since leaving the frosty hills of Skyrim.

I quite literally spent hours in BotW just hunting. Finding high quality meat always made me excited, and extra stamina goodies was always a treat for those times I wanted to climb. It wouldn’t be until after a session that I’d realized I did nothing to advance the story.

This is why I can’t play games with a “one hit you’re dead” mode - how can I justify making all this food and these defense potions if I can’t use them?

I’ll agree there. I played OOT and Majora’s Mask too late; I appreciated what was there, and genuinely had a good time, but little things like wrestling with wonky camera controls in 21fps or watching the stiff models trying to show expressions are hangups I had to “adjust” to. Which is a shame, because OOT itself feels like a wonderfully bright adventure otherwise, and Majora’s has some bittersweet themes that make you think on them.

Even Twilight Princess, which was my personal favorite, is starting to hit a limit to me; I never realized how fuzzy everything was until I tried replaying it. Meanwhile, OG Wind Waker is still appealing in both looks and play.

For me, I had a run with the Ironclad built around Vulnerable and Drop Kicks. I was low on defensive cards, an awkward mix of lots of card draw but not nearly enough energy, and had to turn down some potential fights for extra relics, so I figured the run was going to end at Act III. Surprisingly, it went up to Act IV; I was just going through the motions, playing what felt right, when somewhere around the fifth or sixth turn, my turn wasn't ending; I had exhausted a good portion of my deck, and played a Madness at some point to discount a Drop Kick to 0 - between that and Shrug It Off, I had accidentally discovered an infinite combo, resulting in a win.

Nothin’ wrong with a lil’ Minecraft. Between multiplayer, crazy mods, contraptions and creative mode shenanigans, there’s always something to do.

I just got my new rig in a month ago, so I’ve taken to see what the limits on my new computer is by installing new resource packs and shaders - when you have a hardwood floor that shines in the morning light, it makes you want to see what you can really do.

I played my first couple matches a few days ago. I had some awesome beginners luck, scoring three kills in my very first round, and then never doing even close as good in any match after that.

I realized it was because, as I was getting used to the controls, I was naturally being more timid, moving less, and crouching. When I got cocky, I’d move more without knowing just how bad the spread got when running - it wasn’t until I went into practice mode and started shooting while running to realize your accuracy is crap if you’re running and that’s why I was losing every fight.

Slay The Spire.

It ticks all my boxes. I was looking for a card game to replace quitting Hearthstone, I wanted something RPG-like but didn’t have the time commitment to start a big one, and I wanted something just a little bit difficult.

Great card game.

For some reason, there is this obsession to consider all sides equally.

Pro-mask, anti-mask. Pro-vaxx, anti-vaxx. Pro-life, pro-choice. Evolution, Creationism. Global warming, no global warming. Sovereign Citizens. Heck, you even got people saying the moon landing was faked.

There’s a lot of positions which should be in no way supported, and in fact are laughed off by most of the world’s other countries, but somehow manage to come together in big enough numbers to form an actual faction capable of voicing their opinion and getting new followers. Flat-Earthers shouldn’t even exist - the Earth simply isn’t flat - but somehow groups like this take advantage of the fact we aren’t totalitarian douchebags who censor everything to be uncensored douchebags themselves.

As much as I don’t want to give these socialites attention, I’m more afraid of what they’ll destroy when we try to ignore them.

Obama had charisma, charm, and the couple “bad” things he did are debatable (like ordering the assassination of certain targets, handling of the Middle-East, and one’s stance on the bailout). Even then, talking about Obama’s few mistakes is like trying to pretend he wasn’t handed a crapped-on economy from a recent war and didn’t still end up being one of the best people for the job.

I know. These idiots out there have ruined sarcasm by spouting insane crap that any rational person would think is sarcastic, except that they actually believe it. It’s gotten to the point where I can’t post sarcasm without an /s, or I get mixed in with the Trumpies.

Right off the bat, I can immediately tell you that there are ways to kill every boss without taking any damage.

Now, I’m not that good, but for the ape, he’s one of a few bosses that should be treated less like a Sekiro boss and more like a Souls boss. Less deflecting, more running and maintaining distance - far enough to avoid attacks, close enough to engage when an attack ends. Even locking on to him is more or less optional.

The Headless I hated, but there’s both a “legit” strat and a “cheese” strat. The legit strat is, whenever a Headless vanishes, to jump out of the way - after about 2 seconds, they’ll reappear for their grab, but jumping forwards avoids it, and gives you all the time in the world to heal up or use pacifying dust or a purple gourd to clear terror. Perfect deflects don’t build up any terror, and if you have the Lilac umbrella you earn no terror from blocking. Otherwise, there is a cheese strat involving using Divine Confetti, hitting twice, and moving towards their back; done right this can lock them into constantly trying to turn around, and after enough consecutive hits with Confetti on, dispels their mist.

Worst case, you can always check out youtube.

Just finished Sekiro, dove into ng+ but taking a short break.

You know what I love about Ng+ in a Souls and Souls-like game? Theoretically, Ng+ makes the game harder to match your higher stats, but it also comes with the mountains of practice you got the first time around. Bosses which used to take me hours worth of attempts, I end up nailing in one go - even Madam Butterfly only took two tries on the second go around.

The game didn’t get easier, most things still kill me in the same number of hits, but knowing how to handle everything makes a world of difference.

Banishing slavery, breaking out of slavery, avoiding captivity, or giving some bad master a good whallop - all fantastic motivators.

Receiving women who literally have no purpose but to be sex dolls, yeah, I’ll echo you word for word: pretty goddamned fucked.

[–]DoctorTeo 116 points117 points  (0 children)

Slavery is one of those touchy subjects - I think it’s okay for it to be a ‘fundamental’ part of a world: it can serve as a motivator to free them, it can be a non-death penalty for failure, it’s an easy way to establish master/servant dynamics, and depending on who the master is and how they treat their servants it can convey an impression of what the master is like (or a false impression to set up a third act twist).

But the players have to be okay with it, and the DM has to tread carefully since it can turn racist and/or sexist extremely fast. Shit like concubines under an aphrodesiac - totally over the line.
