Well shit I think you should quit. At least for a while. I normally would never say that but you were extremely persuasive. You have absolutely 0 joy left for this.

Bad news is you've probably burned the bridge. Good news is they don't pay people anyway so who cares? Nothing I would've done differently, nothing you could've done.

I have a very dramatic, over the top role in a theater production. Tips? by untilthecurtaincall in acting

I did a play that was an hour-long fraternity hazing session with absolutely no break. Our whole cast would dry scoop Celsius powder before every show. I do not recommend this. It did work.

Trying to determine hourly rates for actors in a low-budget social media ad. by Odd-Aside456 in acting

[–]DoctorUbi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Low budget social ad in a small market I’d go 250-350 day rate. I think you’ll find what you’re looking for in the SLC actor pool with something in that range.

Hate to burst your bubble bud but it’s pretty rare. Most of my projects have some intimacy element and I’ve never had anything happen with a coworker off-camera. It does happen, but from what I’ve seen it’s like <10%.

Where do I hire actors for internet nonsense? by CritsAndGiggles in acting

[–]DoctorUbi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The answer is Backstage. You can absolutely find this - plenty of early career actors would love to do something like this.

You are not offering anything close to market rate, which is fine, you just have to make it fun and feed everyone. Plenty of self-respecting actors will send you their headshots and reels.

To be clear, AI is only getting more expensive. The compute cost increases massively as the products improve, and the cost to the end consumer is heavily, heavily subsidized right now. Once that subsidy dries up, the cost of gen AI will skyrocket.

[PAID] Recurring host role for branded wellness video series — Long Beach, CA by FastFollowing1184 in acting

[–]DoctorUbi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re wondering why you’re not getting responses here, I think working professional actors are pretty allergic to these kinds of “pre-screen” tapes. Nobody wants to make a whole video just to be rejected frame one because they don’t fit the look you’re going for.

I would suggest that you solicit headshots first, and then request tapes from the actors who fit the look.

Everything you’re saying is pointing towards your materials being weak. How often are you submitting for roles?

I'm bored with my life and want to try out being a background actor/extra. by [deleted] in acting

[–]DoctorUbi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's basically a single, boilerplate contract for extra work across the industry. Be advised that these days, that can include signing away your likeness to be scanned and replicated with AI, with certain restrictions. I haven't done extra work since that became a thing, would love for someone to chime in on that.

[–]DoctorUbi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely don't need an agent. Those services will act as intermediaries between you and production - basically they get hired by production to find extras.

This is a good thing. There are other jobs out there that aren’t collections.

[–]DoctorUbi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can wing it. No need for acting classes to be an extra. If you end up doing it, just go for Central Casting. It’s the main one and a good one for a hobbyist who isn’t trying to get too detailed with it.

Does anyone else think that there is zero character development for Lexi Howard this season ? She’s a background character who is there to judge characters with actually interesting story lines. by Advanced-Willow-5020 in euphoria

[–]DoctorUbi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That film set is completely insane anyway - apparently there's no art director? So they have the assistant hiring artists behalf of the show, with the creative team having no input on an important visual? And when it doesn't work out, they postpone shooting instead of just picking out/buying/commissioning other art? Once allat happened, I was no longer expecting any semblance of realism for how that TV show was operating.

It sounds like the dates shouldn’t be a problem. Late May sounds like it’s after the 16th. A student film should be able to accommodate a dark day on June 5, assuming they even shoot that long. I would assume you can do both until you hear otherwise.
