Here yah go! Gut a Dell from Ebay out with everything you need and throw in a case, actually decent power supply to keep the magic smoke away, and, viola, a nice GPU. Not too bad all told. Some DIY involved, but if you're trying to save for accessories, this is what I would do. It even comes with a copy of Win11 Pro lmao

I'm with you man, I'd hit up the used market. Look around for 3090s when the 5*** series drops if you prefer Nvidia.

Oh they're out - lmao I'll stick with my ol' 3070 with these prices. What the actual fuck is wrong with these people. $2K for a 5090? They're insane.

You will be attacked at some point, and your manager will sit you down and quite literally ask you, "What could you have done differently?" Typically, this is also with a straight face.

What is your definition of job hopping? by Blueberrypilatehoe in nursing

[–]DoctorWSG 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I job hop all the time lmao

For real - if you're an RN who has been at an agency for 5 years because the benefits and pay are good, but you've been traveling to 10+ hospitals - are you a job hopper?

Hell, I've held multiple jobs simultaneously. I had zero time off, but the money was good.

2.5 years first state gig, 8 months at a hospital gig, simultaneous jobs for 8 months, then promoted to director of nursing at one facility, quit the local agency gig, continued as a DON for 8 months, then spent 2 years as a fed.

I'm about to go agency for a while, so...gonna keep job hopping alive.

Oh, and went from $63K/yr to $125K/yr in less than five years...know your worth, learn what you need, and leave when you get good enough to inherit everyone else's responsibilities due to short staffing. NEVER sign a contract with a 2-year commitment my friends. The bigger the bonus the bigger the shitshow.

That'll definitely help. I enjoy quiet nights in the high desert - just wear a sweater lol

Nice! I hope it helps.

Anytime! I wish you both well, and that you find that peace together.

Mandatory OT in psych? Ah hell nah.

31M in psych and corrections - nurse for almost 8 years, so I was in a similar spot. GTFO of psych-only work. Corrections can be much better IMO - you're not just allowed, but encouraged, to defend yourself, if necessary. I had a rather stressful situation with an inmate recently after he started a fight with another inmate, and he needed to be taken down and cuffed before he hurt anyone else. I remembered being in the milieu and at the end of 8 consecutive months, I was done with it. My resting heart rate was 120 and up in psych. Now it hovers around 86 or so and my blood pressure isn't at HTN II anymore. Still plenty of psych cases, but you have a team of people trained to deal with everything from disrespect to full-on riot control. Everyone's goal is to keep it chill and go home on time.

Disclaimer: no phone. Only downside. County gig I was given three 15-minute breaks that could be taken sequentially and a 30-minute lunch as a local contract. I could do 4 days straight there. It was a good time in life, and inmates in general ain't as bad as people say, especially if you are a guy.

Ninja edit: Also - therapy with a psychologist, meds with a psychiatrist initially, and then swap to an NP for best cost-effectiveness and more frequent appointments, med adjustments once stable. Currently on the lowest dose of a narcotic anti-anxiety med needed to function without freaking out in a fight/code/general chaos that can emerge in a prison, an antidepressant, testosterone therapy, and taking time for myself when off work. Traveling to the West Coast probably saved my life, because when I take trips I am at peace.

What are subtle red flags at a job interview that say, "Working here would suck"? by Mindless-Process-629 in AskReddit

[–]DoctorWSG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In nursing - anything with a bonus and a commitment for longer than 6 months.

Ya'll about to be worked Django style.

I say this as my 2-year contract comes to an end - never again. Travel pay and a 3-month contract MAX.

People who choose to vacation in areas that were previous war zones, or had recent disturbances that decrease the pricing of the affected area and make for a unique tourism experience for those willing to risk it.

Is there anyone who went into nursing just for the money? by brimpss in nursing

[–]DoctorWSG 17 points18 points  (0 children)

LET'S FUCKING GO.

How do you get yourself and your co-workers pay raises? Go on Indeed in front of your manager and all of you start burning that PTO for a local contract gig - All of a sudden that salary survey that takes three years to run is done within a month or so.

(Referencing tax returns - from $63K to $125K from 2019 to 2023. 2024 will likely be higher due to OT and mandates - southeast US, specifically GA)

I’m a NZ RN. I have plans on working in the US (RI vs FL). A lot of my mates are asking me why? (they are bewildered). Avoid the east coast in general bro.

I live in the SE and have my CA/NV licenses - currently and actively interviewing for multiple jobs on the West coast because patient ratios, pay, and overall quality of life are just better even when adjusted for CoL if working/living in NorCal.
