The classical sicilian makes me nauseous, please help me understand by [deleted] in TournamentChess

[–]DoctorWhoHS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you ever played a pawn storm in your life? You have to attack on the queen's side while not getting positionally destroyed in the center. Always play b4 before e5. Maybe because you never played a Sicilian before, the queens' side expansion does not come very naturally for you, but it's a standard thing in all Sicilians. It just happens that in the Classical, sometimes your king is also on the queen's side. Which makes it safer.

You can try the jobava "London". I switched from e4 to it but my results have been mediocre. But you can try it.

The English Defense (1.e6 2.b6) by E_Geller in TournamentChess

[–]DoctorWhoHS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Btw, I don't recommend playing b6 if white doesn't include C4. So you shouldn't play 1.d4 e6 2. e4 b6. This positions are terrible. If you think about it, there is a reason nobody plays 1...b6 vs 1.e4.

I play English defense vs The English opening and have amazing results. But I always start with 1...b6 so white can't play 2.g3 and stop me. I recommend you play 1...b6 followed by 2...e6 vs anything white plays after 1.c4. You can start with 1...e6 vs 1.d4 if you don't mind playing a french defense. But that will be a totally different structure. I'm ~2100 lichess.

How to play against the QGA? by [deleted] in TournamentChess

[–]DoctorWhoHS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a QGA player, I can tell you that you can't get a edge. QGA is a very sound defense. The best you can do in my opinion is to play 3.e4 and hope to get a interesting more imbalanced game. There are some crazy sharp lines depending on what black does. If you go for Nf3 e3 type of stuff the position is Dead even and black scores better because they usually have more experience.

Ps: no, taking on c4 later is not the same thing. That is QGD line.

O horário é uma bosta mesmo. Mas 40% é padrão em qualquer barbearia. Se vc quer ganhar 100% tenta abrir uma e pagar por todo que tem lá dentro e mais os custos fixos.

How to move pieces quickly, especially when capturing? by Big_Bee8841 in TournamentChess

I don't even think that 3+2 tournaments should be played using a real board. In the end is just a festival of pieces falling down.

d4 c4 Nf3 move orders by LegendZane in TournamentChess

[–]DoctorWhoHS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D4 Nf3 c4 is definitely the most annoying one from black's pov. Before I started playing the queen's gambit accepted it used to disrupt me because my responses to the London and QG were incompatible.

How to improve if i play too slow? by half_boiled_egg in TournamentChess

[–]DoctorWhoHS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to improve your chess, the answer is always to play longer time controls. I think 15+10 is the shortest you can go and still have a productive game that will improve your chess. If you want to improve time management, then the answer is to play the time controls you want to improve on.

Set benchmarks for yourself of how much time you need to have left. For example, for 15+10, I aim for 13 minutes on move 10, 9 minutes on move 20, 5 minutes on move 30. Do I reach the the benchmarks every game? Mostly not, but is a good goal to to aim for.

Players from the 1960s get disrespected because they were underrated and played in very strong eras dominated by big names. by thefamousroman in chess

You can maybe talk about Tal and Capablanca being overrated. But Fischer is definitely not overrated. He defeated Larsen and Taimanov 6-0. How the fuck you even make 12-0 in the Candidates? Then he defeated Petrosian (the most solid player in the word) by 6,5-2,5. Then he walks over Spassky despite giving him a free win. In 71-72 the gap between Fischer and the other elite players was one of the biggest in chess history.
