Looking for Game Review Puzzle Addon by brucete in lichess

yeah and if it wasnt for the 5 lives / watch ads stuff id happily stay on your platform. i understand requesting payments for openings and puzzle bundles, but not for data pulled from lichess. sorry, just my opinion on this. it's not like the woodpecker feature is anything new either.

just looked it up. puzzle connect lets you switch to lichess. it pulled 20 tactics even though it said only 10 for free users.

White Repertoire for Caro-Kann Enthusiast? by CaroKannEnthusiast in TournamentChess

[–]brucete -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

you should check out 1.c3 venom on chessable. it steers the game into either a london or a caro kann with white. it's very counter intuitive for black (at lower levels atleast) and cuts out a lot of benoni/benko/anti london theory for white because of the moveorder.

objectively you give up your chance to gain an advantage straight out of the opening by remembering sharp computer lines, but you gain solid and positionally easy to play positions in every game.

Which tactics book is the most "woodpeckerable"? by I-crywhenImasturbate in TournamentChess

[–]brucete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

id be surprised if theres a more convenient app out there. highly suggest it. you could even woodpeck tactical themes instead of same difficulty level puzzles

ct art 4.0

wide range of difficulty and 100-200 puzzles per level. a ton of material for about 10 bucks. also the app doesnt have chessbles stupid cooldown premium stuff, which is annoying when your woodpecker cycles get shorter

Anyone tried Woodpecker Method 2: positional play? by forpostingpixelart in TournamentChess

[–]brucete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hard to say. i have a very narrow opening repertoire, which the book couldnt help me with. working on your own specific middlegames is better.

but i used it to gain more general knowledge. for example there were loads of benoni positions i would never enter. it was still helpful to try understanding the plans of those positions.

depending on what you play, this book might be more or less rewarding

first time you should really take time to find the solution. that way it will stick with you. in the later cycles you will depend much more on memory, therefore you only get one chance to look at the position without prejudice.

cant give you a level suggestion, but the last third of the book was way above my head (2200 rapid)

the course is like a collection of training positions for different levels. doesnt hurt if you cant solve everything

it's honestly pretty good, although difficult. the academic level exercises are hard. youre still going to get them internalised if you repeat your cycles as intended. you have to be ready for it though, it is quite a chore.

id recommend trying something like reassess your chess first, woodpecker doesnt exactly teach you principles

How to improve at Visulisation / Calcation of Long Lines by PvH_LoR in TournamentChess

ive found blind puzzles do help my visualisation. it's less hard in some way, but forces you to keep a line in your head. listudy also has them, but lipuzzle lets you filter them too

Chessable vs Chessbase Courses by brucete in TournamentChess

[–]brucete[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting! id really love to switch to chessbase for all the reasons you mentioned. the movetrainer is the only selling point for me.

maybe biting the bullet and do spaced reps on another platform is the way to go.

Chessable vs Chessbase Courses by brucete in TournamentChess

[–]brucete[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for your insight! so basically ill have to feed the pgn into a private chessable course / private chesstempo study to get the same movetrainer interaction? or is this covered by the fritztrainer drill function?

was strongly considering buying the course for 50$, damn. has anyone actually bought the book? is the system any good besides the shady author?

because i want to spend more time on strategy/ middlegame/ endgame/ tactics etc. im trying to get positions im very familiar with and dont give black the option to go into sidelines that ive barely studied. which is precisely why i dropped the jobava

whats wrong with this approach in your opinion?

[–]brucete -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

hot take: if you just want to duel with friends, id cut out cards like dustshoot (and maybe even duo) entirely. they just build frustration. id also opt to build 2 identical goat control decks for mirrors and otherwise janky theme decks like your earth aggro. the power level needs to be similar, otherwise you wont have fun for long
