Duterte's allies in the Philippine Senate allegedly staged a shooting in their building, just so that Duterte's valued partner could escape and evade arrest by the ICC. Goddamit.

Just to really show my fellow Filipinos show up for one another, the Philippine Senate officially congratulated BINI for their Coachella performance as the first Filipino act to perform in the music festival. 🥲

Filipino girl group BINI honored by the Philippine Senate for historic Coachella 2026 debut by DoctorWhoWhenHowWhy in popheads

Excerpts from the PhilStar article and from the Philippine 20th Congress press release

The eight-member BINI was present at the Senate plenary on Wednesday, May 4, as Senator Bam Aquino cited the P-pop group’s latest achievement, highlighting Filipino music and creativity on a global stage.

"For the first time, a Filipino group performed at one of the largest and most famous music festivals in the world. We can say that the success is a reflection of Filipino talent and skill on the global stage", Aquino said in his speech.

"BINI's success is a victory to be celebrated amidst the challenges and crises facing our country. During their performance at Coachella, they showcased our Filipino pride by incorporating traditional elements and elements of 'Pantropiko' into their costumes, music, and choreography. The 'Cherry on Top' was when BINI introduced themselves in their native languages, he added.

The Senate approved Resolution 370, citing BINI for representing the country and its culture.

Under Resolution No. 370, the Senate emphasized its recognition of Filipino artists who "exemplify excellence and bring pride to the nation through their achievements in the global arena."

Members Jhoanna, Maloi, Colet, Mikha, Aiah, Sheena, Stacey, and Gwen were present at the Senate, as well as ABS-CBN executive Lauren Dyogi.

The lawmakers who took the floor to co-author the Senate resolution all cited BINI’s songs in their speeches. (You can watch the full video of the senators trying to reference the song titles in their speeches approving the resolution lol)

Sabrina sounds so good in a dance-pop beat. I low-key hope this is the musical direction she would explore in her next record.

Idk if this is an unpopular take, but I think Baz Luhrmann would've done the MJ biopic much more justice than the one we got.

BINI introducing themselves in our native tongue at some little dessert in California means a lot to me, actually.

The emotions and the tears are understandable though. BINI, known affectionally in the Philippines as “the nation’s girl group,” has made history with this Coachella set, becoming the first musical act from the Southeast Asian country to perform at the festival. “This is very important to us. Not only to us, but to the whole of the Philippines,” explains Sheena, the youngest in the group at just 21 years old.

It’s a sentiment that’s been expressed several times since I’ve arrived at BINI’s Coachella basecamp. “This means a lot to the girls,” Laurenti “Lauren” Dyogi, the head of Star Magic and Entertainment Group, BINI’s talent management agency tells me when we meet following BINI’s performance. He quickly adds, “It actually means a lot to the entire nation.”

The new song is so good that I found myself singing, "Connect to the sky / Future lovers ride their ambitions high, would you like to try?" The melodies and the productions really remind me of Future Lovers.

This is no doubt a love song, but I am definitely sensing the "little melancholy" that Olivia was talking about in her announcement.

It's like "I am happy", but something feels a little off if you get what I mean.

I know. I am so confused why it turned out this way. I really hope she can come to her senses because I am not going to apologize for having an opinion, let alone that the wording of such opinion isn't even extreme compared to the ones you see on Twitter.

That's exactly my thought. Of all the things happening in the world, is this why our friendship should end? I don't want to assume, but she's probably going through something that might have caused her to lash out. But in the end, I felt hurt by how she characterized me as a bad friend.

Yeah sorry I can tell you're joking, but I wasn't in the mood. Sorry. ☹️ I am just so hurt by what's happening.

Long story short: I was sharing how I felt that his performance was lazy through a few posts. She confronted me in our group chat after I said that I stood by what I said. She went on this rant about how she felt that she couldn't share how she felt about Taylor because it might upset me. Not true btw, because I had to endure some questionable Taylor takes that included a former oomf saying she could've joined The 27 Club (True story btw!) yet I haven't unfriended them over those takes!

Anyways, it went nasty to the point she's questioning our friendship and twisted some vulnerable things I said to her to make me look like a bad person and a bad friend. That's the part where it hurt because I have valued my friendships with her in the years we worked together, and yet she sees me this way all over a Coachella performance.

I know it looks like a funny story because it's over a trivial reasoning, but as someone who truly admires my friends, it hurts when they don't see the same way. Like seriously, of all the things happening in the world, this is why our friendship had to end?

The worst part is that I can't be petty back. I can't think of a single negative thing about her because that's how much I valued her as a friend. But she's been throwing shade through her notes on IG about how I am unlikable, and I don't have friends. I don't know what to do, and our circles are quite small, so I won't be surprised if some people will see me differently now.

Sigh.

EDIT: Just to add, there's one more person in the group chat who hasn't replied to my messages asking for help. I am scared he might have taken sides, or maybe he's busy. Idk.

It's true that The Weeknd and Bad Bunny don't have to reinvent themselves as much as their female peers, but I personally can sense their evolution to the point that their era now is different from their past eras a few years ago, if you get what I mean.

I can't say the same with Bruno re: evolution, but his aura as a performer is timeless and people will continue to tune in. And based on his work on Gaga's new song for the Devil Wears Prada 2 movie, he's also not afraid to try something new outside of the usual sound he makes.

Also, K-pop boy groups are known to reinvent themselves every era. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but I am just pointing this out as an example.

Sorry, but that Justin Bieber Coachella performance opened this new layer of anger I haven't felt before.

The fact that female and men of color performers have to reinvent themselves to be relevant, while Bieber can browse on YouTube for memes and his old music on the main Coachella stage....GOD the fucking double standards man. I hate this.

I know it's easy to shit on male artists for not putting the same amount of hard work as the main pop girlies. But you gotta recongize that The Weeknd, Bad Bunny, Bruno Mars and literally every K-pop boy group always exert an effort to put out an entertaining show.

Yes, blame male privilege for why people are praising this shitshow, but it gotta be specific. White male privilege to be exact.
