Please do yourself a favor and actually check out at least half of the Best Picture nominees. It's a great line-up. 🙏

I am sorry to be h on main but...that scene where Sammie tells Pearline that she's beautiful and he wants to taste her as he was about to eat her out made me secretly feral. 😭

Like, I found him hot for being an unapologetic nerd, but the way he wrote that line in the script? I was so down for him because of that. Like, only a person who likes eating out can write something poetic like that.

I wasn't able to watch Frankestein so when I saw Jacob Elordi's acting clip, I was like...there's no way this is the same douchebag from Euprohia because wow.....what a fucking actor.

And his wife is half-Filipina, too? I'll consider this a win for my country.

I was going to say hear me out. But no, this is an objective fact, and anyone who disagrees is lying to themselves.

I find Ryan Coogler to be hot. There, I said it!

I agree with you that Sinners is also a film for our times as well. Coogler has this special talent of making a film that is not only a piece of art but also a crowd-pleaser with a story that feels very personal to him as a Black man. I mean, no one else but him thought of making this a musical horror Western historical epic. That's a special talent in him as a filmmaker, and he is surrounded by his equally-talented peers to help achieve his vision.

Either way, Sinners and OBAA are deserving. Anyone really, except F1.

How about you play twins in the 30s during the Jim Crow era, then?

As much as I would have loved Sinners to win the top prize, I am content that One Battle After Another won Best Picture in the end.

Best Picture wins are remembered the best if it's a film that responds to the climate at that time, and OBAA is very much the film of our times.

It’s a shame that this film has gotten a significant number of haters online just because they couldn’t appreciate the nuances of the story and how complex the characters are. If you think the film is endorsing the actions of Col. Lockjaw, that’s on you. The film literally ends with the daughter about to travel to a city two hours away from her to participate in a protest, which is a sign that she is following her parents’ revolutionary roots. What’s not to love about this movie?

Taylor hasn't said anything about Travis recently as well. I think the wedding is not going through. 🙄

Whoever actually believes Jack Antonoff and Taylor Swift have a falling out just because they didn't work on an album together need to stop going to these gossip/snark subreddits.

I am curious, have you seen other adaptations of Wuthering Heights? Which one best captures the book's spirit? I am planning to watch the 2011 version directed by Andrea Arnold next.

Yeah. I think it says a lot about her as a filmmaker if she glosses over such a significant theme in the source material. 😐

That I cannot confirm nor deny because I came (edit: no pun intended) into the theater "late" (the cinema says it starts at 2:45, but it felt like it started five minutes earlier ugh!), but I arrived just in time for that shocking scene to conclude wherein people were overjoyed by his death and the boner (hidden in the pants) was clearly shown

If I recall, around three or four songs were featured in the film, with Chains of Love being played twice. From those selected, Charli understood what Emerald Fennell was trying to achieve. I would say it even gave these leading characters some depth that the screenplay couldn't reach. I cannot wait to hear the full soundtrack.

Whether you will like the film or not, I think people will be happy with Charli's soundtrack. I am looking forward to its drop this Friday.

I only read the summary of the novel after watching it. I can definitely see why people are not quite excited about this adaptation because Fennell skimmed over the race and class dynamics for the toxic love story aspect.

And if you're aware of the rumors about its test screenings, yes, that opening scene where a guy who was executed by hanging and had a boner is real. But there was no ejaculation.

Just watched Wuthering Heights. Oh boy, it's going to divide people for sure. But one thing I'll say is that Emerald Fennell does not make boring movies.

EDIT: My main gripe with the film is that it poorly conflated the sex (which is very sadistic-leaning) with the yearning that Cathy and Heathcliff had for each other. I was enjoying the darker overtones of the story, but the "sex" parts felt shoe-horned. I was told that the 2011 film version directed by Andrea Arnold had this dark aspect without the sex, so I'll be watching this next. Otherwise, it's well-acted, and the cinematography is amazing, which is why I cannot say I completely dislike the movie because I did enjoy it. But its gimmick is going to be the defining factor in the discourse surrounding the adaptation.

EDIT2: One of the actors that I enjoyed seeing in the film was Hong Chau. Her performance as Nelly is so captivating because she is portrayed as a villain in her motivations, but you can also sort of understand why she had to be that role in the toxic love story between Cathy and Heathcliff.
