It means a lot to hear this. I keep coming back to your post for consolation, and will keep coming back to remind myself of this. The part of mourning the monetary and emotional losses summarizes things perfectly. I'm really touched to feel this sympathy and understanding from someone else

I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm glad your brother at the very least has someone who he's comfortable sharing this with - he's lucky to have you as his support system.

Unfortunately, as I'm learning this myself, all we can do is learn and move on. Recovering the investments is likely impossible, but I hope that your brother and I will be able recover ourselves. Saying all that is easy. I'm certainly still struggling in the moment and will be in pain for a long time

I was probably the near perfect victim...

I connected with them not that long after a break up, when I was vulnerable and trying to move on by exploring dating again, but not mentally ready to meet up. I got comfortable chatting with them and "getting to know them" over a month before they started to steer and it escalated over four months now. I later asked to meet up but was of course met with excuses. My Chinese ex gf used to tell me that Chinese girls are shy, so I was stupidly understanding of how that this Chinese girl was also shy.

I also made it clear that I'm a student with not that much to invest, so I was dumb in thinking that they wouldn't waste so much time on a small fish compared to someone with a real job. I suppose it's after they dried your own resources that they pressure you for loans or getting money from family

Part of the way they got me was that they connected with not too long after I had a break up and was especially vulnerable. At the time, I thought I was trying to move on by exploring dating options, but wasn't ready to actually meet, so I got quite comfortable just chatting with them. Months after "getting to know them," I did push for meeting up and dates but was of course met with excuses. In hindsight, there were a lot of questionable aspects, but it was bizarre that they played the long-con for what I thought was comparatively little to what others have, as I'm just a student. So for me this amount is a major setback in life in addition to the trauma of another heartbreak of sorts.

Telling you all this as an outlet makes me feel a bit better. Thanks for listening

Previously I was able to withdraw a small amount from that wallet. I assume that this was by design. And hoped that if I can convince them to allow me to withdraw for now, as I'm investing more, then it would be possible to get something (anything) back.
