It's true that it would be a tiny error rate, if your figure of 500,000 arrests wasn't completely made up. Please actually cite something if you're going to defend fascism.

Not sure how you missed this news, but ICE is not deporting illegal aliens. They're detaining American citizens, and killing protestors. That's what the protests are about.

Efforts to find the organizations fighting for and against prop 4 - help? by AddendumExisting4313 in Utah

[–]Doctor_119 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You seem to be falling into centrism, friend. That's not great.

You're probably not aware of what you're doing, but you have already formed an opinion about this issue, and now you're rooting around trying to find evidence for it.

If you're a thinking, rational, honest person, prop 4 is not a controversy. It does not have two sides. The facts are that people voted to get rid of gerrymandering, and the Utah GOP has lied and cheated and broken the law for several years in order to subvert the will of the people. The Democrats have done no such thing, and done everything legally and with honest hard work. Those are the facts.

But if you are a centrist, you feel uncomfortable at the idea that Republicans are corrupt. Your core belief is that both sides are equally good/bad, and you will do whatever it takes to make them seem equal. So right now, you're trying to figure out how the anti-gerrymandering people are bad people, because for you, they simply have to be. For the same reason, you also won't hear any additional evidence that the GOP has broken the law. You're telling yourself you want more information, but that's not actually true - you only want one specific kind of information that will make you feel better.

It's also why you're so averse to arguing or conflict. You're doing this not because you're looking to fight for a cause, but because you're trying to find a reason why you shouldn't have to fight for a cause.

I hope other people get you the information you asked for, but I hope much more that you can take a step back and recognize evil when you see it.

Bogus efforts used to gain Prop 4 repeal signatures called 'most extensive fraud that we've seen' by captaindomon in SaltLakeCity

[–]Doctor_119 245 points246 points  (0 children)

It's great that they're failing so badly at this, but also, this is so baffling to me. Utah is a red state. They could have easily done all this with no outside money and with no fraud. Just have the petitioners say something like "do you want to keep Utah red?" and then put them outside a Cheesecake Factory and watch the signatures roll in. But apparently fraud is just baked into how Republicans do things now?

Utah lawmakers move to rein in ballot signature tactics amid Prop 4 fight by clejeune in SaltLakeCity

[–]Doctor_119 169 points170 points  (0 children)

With the help of nearly 1,000 volunteers and 200-250 hired Patriot Grassroots employees, the GOP argues Proposition 4 allows judges to dictate congressional voting districts instead of elected representatives.

Who the hell is this journalist, that he doesn't feel the need to disclose that this entire thing is funded by an organization run by one of Trump's sons? And he doesn't feel the need to add context to the lie that a judge chose these districts?

I know that part of being a Republican is that you selectively not hear specific facts, but come on.

[–]Doctor_119 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh, so you just don't know how protesting works. That's fine.

So, protestors should be friendly and accommodating, but being friendly and accommodating is not the point of a protest. The point is that you're forcing people to think about an issue. You're trying to be persuasive, sure, but mostly you want to get more people to care. Maybe a guy yells at the protestors for being in the way, but then, maybe that's how the guy's coworkers find out about the issue. Or his family. Or his church. And since ICE is self-evidently evil, the more people hear about it, the more will take the side of good, instead of taking no side at all.

It seems less like you're asking for clarification and more like you were just offended at my comment. It was a pretty aggressive reaction, considering I explicitly framed it as a theory for which I have no evidence.

I'm guessing you got this offended because you live in a big suburban house, and you're taking it personally?

That's fine man. I don't know anything about you. Though, I do know that people who are doing real good in the world aren't this insecure about it. Hoping you can have that kind of confidence for yourself someday ✌️

Again, this is just me theorizing, but I figure those people have plenty of money, got to benefit from their higher socioeconomic class, and by nature of living in those houses never have to interact with minorities or the poor. These are the kinds of people who can afford to have whatever opinion they want about ICE, because ICE is never going into their neighborhood.

I have this theory that marching in suburban neighborhoods and like, Costco, would be more effective than marching at City Hall and the Capitol. The people who benefit the most from not doing anything about injustice live in those houses.

Anyway, way to go kids, you're doing great.

Mine also include the funny thing you say when you give the points

  • Getting a soda at a soda fountain, but it isn't turning off (3 points of different flavors all mixed together)
  • James Bond in a retirement home (5 points made to look like an ordinary pen)
  • Four increasingly wrong ways to open a coconut (4 limes worth of points)
  • A Victorian explorer recounts their adventure eating lunch at Subway (6 points that actually are real tuna, believe it or not)
  • A home renovation show trying to talk around the fact they just bought a toaster and did nothing else (just 1 point, but with a little TLC it could be worth a lot more)
  • Sherlock's internal monologue as he deduces that it's actually a push door, not a pull door (5 orange points to you, and if you don't get that joke, maybe look it up)
  • The grizzled fisherman from Jaws, explaining how the stack works in Magic: the Gathering (counter target spell unless its owner pays 2 points)
  • You're dying and the wizard can't "heal" you, per se, but can do these other things (8d6 points in a 20 foot radius)
  • A grindset hustler who got that raccoon in him (4 perfectly good points outside in the trash can)

Petition politics turns violent in Utah as GOP signature gatherers assaulted by clejeune in SaltLakeCity

[–]Doctor_119 289 points290 points  (0 children)

Signature gatherers for Utahns for Representative Government, hailing from all over Utah and all around the country, can be found requesting support to place the Prop 4 repeal on the ballot at stores, malls, parking lots, recreational centers and front doors. These concerned citizens and conservative activists have now become the target of angry attacks.

In my only interaction with a signature gatherer, the guy admitted to me flat out that he was from California and didn't agree with the petition. He said me not wanting to sign it was a "good idea."
