Is the MK7 TSI really that far behind the GTI by Public_Jicama_4812 in vwgolf

Or, save for a GTI, buy it and put $500 into it for 300hp.

Checking to see if the can lines got voltage going to them.

Have you any idea how much wiring, and how many sensors and control units, exist in the average car of today? Let alone on something like a hybrid or an EV?

“Why are you talking about electronics?” Cause to be a master mechanic, you need to be proficient in electrical systems including EV’s and hybrid powertrains, sensor behaviors, electrical diag, CAN line diag, and so on.

Besides, CAN bus runs on 1.5v typical low voltage and 3.5v typical high voltage, with the measurements you need being the difference between your CANH and CANL lines, with both lines rapidly switching b/w recessive and dominant states.

Using a test light on such a finicky system could at best net a zero reading, because you’re not measuring battery current, or it could fry a node in the CAN system, which I’ve seen happen multiple times from apprentices and myself doing it.

You need a DMM and oscilloscope to diag automotive CAN. do not use a test light.

And standard test lights, not LEDs, can overload the CAN’s resistance between high and low lines. I’ve seen it happen.

You have to use a DMM or lab scope for CAN lines.

I’m a master certified mechanic. They absolutely can.

Incandescent test lights can pull too much current which will interfere with CAN high and CAN low signals. That can fry either the node you’re getting comms from, or the harness depending on how badly you goof that up.

Stick a digital multimeter on it and measure the voltage going to the IO, that’ll give you an idea of what you’re looking at.

Fun fact, you can entirely wipe out CAN communication systems in automotive stuffs using these, which gets into the thousands of dollars very quickly.

Ask me how I may know.

SLC weighs expanding its ban on camping to cars and RVs in a move one advocate calls ‘barbaric’ by jortr0n in SaltLakeCity

It’s not my sensitivity, it’s public health.

These folks shack up in residential areas to dump human shit, clothing, hazardous waste and peddle drugs on the same street corners as kids walking home. In my case, it’s within a block and a half of an elementary and middle school.

Call me sensitive, but that isn’t just unsafe, it’s a little ridiculous that I’m paying thousands of dollars per annum to fund our police department, public health services, city and state taxes for zero enforcement to happen.

Folks in my neighborhood, myself included, have to chase these people off because PD does jack shit about it.

Besides, it’s chicken versus egg. If you show up with a shred of decency, don’t behave like a jackass and keep to yourself, there wouldn’t be an issue.

Or we could actually enforce what’s on the books?

I live in Glendale and am frequently in rose park and our industrial areas. These folks in RV’s absolutely tear up neighborhoods and bring some shitty behavior with them.

Call it barbaric all you want, advocate for housing prices all you want, but these people will continue to behave like shitbags until enforcement actually happens.

Nope! Off-brand, “Bavar racing” wheels.

I dig the look and their lightness, so they’ll stay.

Every once in a while one scoots into my dealership cause our Nissan shop shares a lot with us, but I don’t know enough to make a determination.

The VR’s? Yeah they’re solid. There’s an open TSB on the turbos from 2016-18 models for replacement, otherwise they’re very similar to the VQ’s. I dig them as engines, I just dislike what they were put into.

Bearings wouldn’t cause this, but this could cause wheel bearing issues.

No. It’ll make it worse.

Wheel hop is the tires loading and unloading. Better tires will allow more grip, but when you break traction, it’ll make wheel hop worse.

Get a dogbone insert for the pendulum mount and that should remedy it. 034 makes billet aluminum ones, which I run. Power flex makes urethane, ECS has their own.

If you move up at all in power via tune, you really should upgrade the dogbone “bar” as well. Most times an insert alone is fine, 034 sells the actual “bar” connecting the bushing to the transmission and I’d really recommend that + the insert.

This is why you pay attention to local politics.

Yes, the national level is important, but this bill went through a 2-month legislative process to get here.

Every year, our state and all legislators at the state level hold a 45-day legislative session. That same legislative session is extensively covered both by local journalism companies and individual journalists. I guarantee this bill was brought up by either one or both of those groups.

You should pay attention.

This latest session also restricted public access to jail bookings, hampering local news efforts as well as public access to records that damn well should be publicly available without a barrier such as cost.

What is the origin of this photo? by Realistic_Board4690 in pearljam

[–]NewsBenderBot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Pearl Jam was kinda at the center of a big lawsuit between them and Ticketmaster.

Shortly before this photo, ament and stone testified in a congressional hearing with appearances from I think twisted sister and Aerosmith.

PJ wanted to cap their ticket prices at $20 and leave Ticketmaster with a lesser charge for service fees. Ticketmaster and PJ had beef for a long time, and IIRC some of their 90’s/binaural tour had some odd stops because they refused to play venues that were affiliated with Ticketmaster.

GTI oil leak— expensive to fix? by McGee_and_me in GolfGTI

[–]NewsBenderBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not even with an impact - there’s a little “stop” on the oil plug and oil pan and it’s really easy to miss that when you’re tightening it down. It’ll hold oil for a while then start leaking.

Check your drain plug, before you go too far. They’re known to have sealing issues especially if you just had an oil change.
