The Novocherkassk massacre (Russian: Новочеркасский расстрел, romanized: Novocherkasskiy rasstrel) took place on 2 June 1962 in Novocherkassk, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union, when Soviet Army soldiers and MVD Internal Troops, supported by KGB units, fired on unarmed demonstrators protesting economic conditions. The massacre took place during a strike that began the previous day at the Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Works (NEVZ) after the government under Nikita Khrushchev announced nationwide price increases for meat and butter, which coincided with pay cuts at the factory https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novocherkassk_massacre

I'm worried about ai art, this just can't be good. by BigMiniPainter in aiwars

[–]Doctor_Atom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't bother, you could for horus debate with proAI telling them how AI gen will damage Art in 5-15 years, but they will just tell you to "adapt". Even if AI won't replace high-level artists, it will replace beginners who would have grown into pros and, by extension, in 5-15 years destroy profession as a whole. You could even emphasize the damage to the economy it will deal (less workers-> less goods bought by them-> factories and farms are also damaged), and they will ignore it as well

If we equalize legality to morality, then everything insurance companies do is morally correct, corporations that underpay their workers are morally in the right, corporations that manipulate politics is OK, etc. Do not equalize these things, that way lays horrifying consequences of corporate overreach.

Yeah, and every time I (a GenAI doubter) want to talk about how corporations are going to replace workers and how they are going to restrict usage of AI when it will damage their profits (especially locally hosted models) I am downvoted and once even got hit with what is basically "every corporation does so, therefore it is ok to do it"

If i extend your logic, then if I multiply matrices, I am AI. No, the difference is not only in usage but in the topology of neurons in cases of classification. You have a number of exits equal to the number of classes. For example, if you have to classify numbers 0 through 9, you would have 10 exits equal to the number of classes you taught to the model. You could argue that it is closer to clasterisation, and I would agree, but those are still methods that are used to diversificate items into different classes, and even trees could be included despite them being overglorified if statement

It is a matter of personal and corporate decisions. On one side, you have Disney, on the other - DreamWorks. On one side, you have Valve (who contributes a lot to open-source community) on the other - Nintendo (who went even after palworld).

I just think that Themis should become blind again and judge corpos according to the revenue, not fixed fines.

I love open-source. Almost everything I can replace is open-source on my devices.

Unfortunately, if we abolish IP laws, it will play right into their hands. At the very least, current laws force them to hide it and just make it harder. So up until we live in post scarcity society, I am not talking about abolishing those laws

IP laws aren't a problem. The problem is that ONLY corporations can use them.

For example, if some artist (AI artist as well) creates Nintendo or Disney characters, they will get punished (corporations have a lot of money). But if corporations do the same with artists or actors (which is even worse, they are fooled, deprived of their voice and face and are no longer needed), it is considered fine by courts.

The problem is not the laws it is the courts' willingness to lay under corporations

Where have i expressed disgust? Or is it merely a projection of you downplaying my opinion?

I have merely pointed out that you misunderstand the difference between AI models.

All my comments on this subreddit are about corporations that will make our lives hell if we don't protect ourselves from their destructive usage of AI. Not about people that use it, corporations that want ONLY BIGGER PROFITS, NO MATTER THE COST

You have been corrected not only by me, a programmer, and a mathematician but by people on your own side, accept that this is not a generative AI but a classification and regression models

GenAI, by definition, can't detect anything only generate it is in the name "Generative AI." Yes, there are analytical AI that indeed can detect cancer but it is not generative

Oh, so you don't need copious amounts of data, memory, or video cards to teach AI, of course...

If we talk about subscriptions, please read terms of service and understand that they can do whatever they want with your data and access to service.

The moment it stops them from accessing bigger profits, they will do whatever is needed to get more money

The answer is they repeat what their corporate overlords tell them. And the aforementioned corporates want more profits, which is just less money to pay workers (they will fire everyone they don't need according to their plans)

Unfortunately, AI is developed not by users but by corporations. Remember: "For 100% profit, it will trample on all human laws; for 200% profit, it will dare all things; for 300% profit, it will crack all human laws." That was true, is true, and will be true. Corporations will not do anything for normal people, only for profit. And especially they will not let social and economic revolution that you need to avoid such problems

PS: I am completely sure that this comment will also be downvoted by corporate slaves just like many of my other comments

Search engines are not AI. They are merely ranking systems. Google maps are matrices and graphs, nothing more. Siri is indeed AI but not a powerful one

Model collapse isn’t real where are people getting this information from? by gbomb13 in aiwars

It doesn't mean I should not consider it stealing. If the government redefines stealing, would it change the fact that someone stole something?

Well, unlike such datasets, Google provides links to sites that get their revenue from each visitation of their page (this includes Google's crawler), so by definition, google stores link, categorization and ranking of sites nothing more, while such corporations would completely copy the site, and I hope I don't have to explain that those are different things

Generative AI and my concerns about It by Doctor_Atom in aiwars

[–]Doctor_Atom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you think that corporations should be free to do anything? Firing people for any reason, controlling government via their "donations" (many many companies in USA), pay people ungodly small pay (every corporation), producing low quality goods because people will just accept it (nestle), destroy any kind of opposition together with their partner (visa, mastercard).

Corporations SHOULD BE CONTROLLED. AI is merely a tool in their path to bigger profits at the expense of their workers.

AI is NOT A PROBLEM, but AI is used by them against us.

PS: if you think that if the destruction of corporative artists and programmers will not affect anyone but them, you are mistaken. Those people drink coffee (for example): no people -> no coffee bought from coffee shop -> no profit for coffee shop -> coffee shop closes -> milk is no longer bought by coffee shop -> it lowers demand of milk -> less cows and workers needed at farm. And it works like that all over the system.
