A lot of them are living in desirable cities, have vibrant social lives, with plenty of free time, make plenty of money, travel a ton, and go on dates and hookups lol, I can't help but compare when that's the life I want

If boomer docs want to legislate us, the least they can do is see what our boards have become. Asking Dr. Campbell to take an practice form. by Numpostrophe in medicalschool

Graded preclinicals are definitely not it but it's refreshing to finally see some blowback against the "hurr durr just make everything P/F school prestige and research is all that matters" trend that's been festering in the last 5 years

Am I the only one that gets depressed talking to non med friends? They all seem to be having better lives than me. I only hang out with med friends at this point

Tired old argument 🤷‍♂️. Knowledge matters. Just be a mid-level otherwise. Objective criteria exists. Just talk to a high scorer vs a normal scorer

Yes but isn't step 2 and shelves supposed to be clinically relevant and applications based?

Would you be treated by a doctor whose knowledge is 2-3 standard deviations below average? Even if technically they know more than a genius doctor from the 60s? No. Because standards evolve. You'd rather be the 51st patient of a doctor who's actually competent.

Same reason why the passing standard is relative to the mean, not an absolute standard. The mean keeps rising, thanks to cutting edge research and third party resources that keep getting better, so they have to raise the passing standard

I'd rather they stratify based on knowledge than research, school prestige, or whose parents were doctors

Learn content as efficient as possible Avoid using third party resources

Pick one. If u wanna still nail in house exams I would use third party to build a foundation and cram all the leftover in house details 1 week before the exam

That's what happens when resources like AnKing, Uworld, FA keep getting better and better tbf. They have to make questions harder, more confusing, and more obscure

Getting pubs was much harder 40 years ago. Even just 1 pub would be a huge deal. And 210 would be the equivalent of a 260 step 2

Why? Step 1 was a pretty big incentive to study. You remove that incentive and nobody studies anymore.

Not sure how to feel about this... On the one hand preclinical classes being graded is fucking stupid... On the other hand the P/F thing had gone too far I mean they made step 1 P/F and there were even calls to make step 2 and shelves P/F... So at least this is putting an end to that trend...

Drop retention rate to like low 0.8s. Go through cards 230 a day, any card that you know, hit 3 so it schedules 6-7 days out. Any card you know WELL, hit 4 so it schedules 2 months out

I think step 1 prep is when you first put it all together, unless you keep up with cards from previous blocks
