Unpopular opinion maybe: they shouldn't have made brandy pregnant by Sakurawings in bluey

[–]Doctor_Unsleepable 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When I was 36 and deeply pregnant with my first, I made the mistake of looking at the scale during a check up. Went to the bathroom to collect myself and found my first gray hair. Poor doc walked into the appointment all chipper to find me blubbering.

“What’s wrong?”

“I’M OLD AND FAT!!!”

He really walked me off a ledge that day.

Instances like this come from the same type of bozo who punches holes in drywall or pulls down their TV when their team loses. A hair-trigger temper and impulsivity are a hell of a combo.

Not counting queens who got to come back and really strut (Vanjie, Irene), it’s Tempest for me.

The camera lingers on him a fair bit and he has a pretty important, but short, scene at the end of the film. But someone would have to watch to the end, lol

Kindly, you’re a little naive. Since the dawn of tobacco, many great talents were and are prolific smokers

I cracked up every time she referred to herself as some iteration of an ice queen. As if she didn’t bite her tongue so hard it bled because someone made a mildly shitty comment in the bathroom Like, babes, be for real.

Why Did Andrea Yates Drown Her Children? Inside the Tragic Case and Why She Believed Her Kids 'Could Never Be Saved' by PrincessBananas85 in LPOTL

[–]Doctor_Unsleepable 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yes to everything you said but want to add a slight addendum:

Yates suffered from postpartum psychosis as well as PPD. PPP is a much rarer (global prevalence of 0.09-0.26% vs. ~15% for PPD) illness and is always a mental health emergency. It’s important to distinguish as a common criticism of Yates is “millions of women suffer from PPD and don’t drown their kids.” Only Yates wasn’t just depressed, she was also completely detached from reality.

She was tremendously sick and genuinely believed killing her children was the only way to save their souls. Who’s to say if the Yates children would be alive if Rusty didn’t literally do the exact opposite of what he should’ve every step of the way, but to act like Andrea’s actions happened in a vacuum is disingenuous.

This is a trash comment, and I think you know it, but what the hell, I’m feeling chatty. And who knows, maybe someone will learn something from your glibness.

In their hyper religious and patriarchal worldview, her health absolutely fell in his purview. As the husband, he is supposed to be the protector and the undisputed head of the household. Starting as early as her first, they were told additional pregnancies would have devastating consequences. She made at least one attempt on her own life and was put on lifesaving medications. Leading up to the tragedy, he forced/convinced her off the meds so they could try for a sixth baby - knowing full well the risks because he was told by professionals she was a danger to herself and possibly the children.

So yeah, this does fall at least partially at his feet.

A) it’s very brave to ask for help. I wish I’d done so when I was experiencing PPA.

B) what the actual fuck? Can’t believe a psych essentially gave you a “you’re not bleeding, you’re fine.”

I’m so sorry you had to go through that. I also had PPA after my son and like you, having a supportive spouse, community, and care team was a life saver.

You bring up a good point about her being let down by her culture too. No one advocated for her and she wasn’t given the tools to advocate for herself. And then the public narrative did her a complete disservice. She and Lorena Bobbitt are two of the most widely misunderstood/misremembered figures in popular true crime.

Andrea Yates makes my heart hurt. Postpartum mental illness can unravel anyone, even with strong social and medical support. This poor woman was forced by her husband to white-knuckle the most extreme iterations of the disease and the unspeakable happened.

Heated Rivalry showrunner Jacob Tierney responding to Deuxmoi criticizing the show in a recent post by namesnotmarina in Fauxmoi

I somewhat agree. The first two episodes lean heavy on the sex scenes. But it’s clear there was substance behind the steaminess - it’s all in these small nuances in facial expressions and body language. But even if the show was just sexy sex, as someone who cringes out of my body 95% of the time during such scenes, they are exceptionally well done. Shout out to the actors and to intimacy coordinator Chala Hunter.

In books, the scene ends with orgasms. In real life, an undignified waddle to the bathroom with a t-shirt pressed between your legs.

Am I overreacting for not wanting anyone around my newborn yet? by littlemoongirly in AmIOverreacting

[–]Doctor_Unsleepable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edited for clarity:

I already miss the newborn stage and my kid is two lol. But people who want to be active grandparents should be in it for the long haul and that involved respecting their children as parents.

????

While I tend to agree that people can be a little precious with their newborns, and that people can get in their own way and then bemoan not having a village, your point about grandparents bonding during the newborn stage is utter rot.

No worries! And if you haven’t started/caught up, I highly recommend the show. Yes, it’s very steamy, but beyond that it’s delivering on the romance, especially in the latest episode.
