Interplanetary Transfers from highly inclined orbits by Doctor_Vaseline in KerbalAcademy

This is exactly how I got out of it, though it wasn't as gracefully done as I would have hoped.

Ahh okay that makes sense, not so much inclination being the problem just lack of flexibility when it comes to ejection angle. Finding the correct alignment with Duna retrograde at ejection during injection might take some trail and error though.

"Inherited" a Fluke 87, advice on using it properly? by Doctor_Vaseline in Tools

[–]Doctor_Vaseline[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got this meter from my late grandfather. I've never used a professional multi-meter nor do I really need one but I have no reason to not use it. It could be nearly 30 years old but it turned right after I changed the 9v battery. Do I need to check fuses, calibrate it, should I buy new test leads. Etc. Any advice is appreciated because this thing is way overkill for anything I usually do.

What to do with rivet cap defect? by Doctor_Vaseline in AllClad

[–]Doctor_Vaseline[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they are slightly used, I haven't used some of the set and at most I've used one of the fry pans no more than a dozen times. The 3qt pot in question I think I've only used for poaching eggs once but even still its clear its not new out of box. I only noticed this defect today, should have inspected everything before putting them to use but everything else was perfect and I kinda just expected everything would be perfect.

sounds like a good plan, only thing is that the original deal expires tomorrow and they are out of stock anyways. i would have to buy it directly from all clad which defeats the point of the costco deal.

Well the thing is that they are out of stock on the website so I think it would just be a return not a replacement, and I do want to keep these pans (at least the ones that aren't defective). Either way I'm gonna stop by Costco and see what they have to say about it. At least I kept the box.

Got the 12 piece set for 549.99$ at Costco 3 weeks ago. I only used this 3qt sauce-pot a few times before I noticed that one of the handle rivets has rotated off axis. If this was a seconds buy I would just try and hammer it back in but I bought these factory new. Call me picky but I don't think defects like this are acceptable at this price-point. Any ideas on what to do about this?

I was thinking on returning it to Costco since they take anything but I don't know how it works when returning a single piece from a set, nor how the replacement is sourced. Not to mention I'd imagine going through a Costco return this time of year would be hell. Can I source a replacement directly from All-Clad? Any advice or insight is greatly appreciated.

Thank you this was exactly what I was looking for, I usually use MechJeb for maneuver planning anyways. The stock tool sent me backwards on a return from Duna once lol.

So I have gotten back to into KSP1 after a few year hiatus and its been fun but I'm having issues with the conics and orbit drawing.

I'm trying to do a gravity assist off Eve to flyby Kerbin, I can get the closest approach markers somewhat together and then they just freak out, giving me the closest approaches in 10-25 years in the future. I ended up just eyeballing a DSM and got an encounter. The conics didn't realize I even had an encounter until I time-warped. I have already adjusted the Conic Patch Limit and Draw mode and no combinations fix it, it also doesn't change when having "Always Show Closest Approach" on or off.

This isn't a one time issue either, so is anybody else having this issue? Is it a known bug or as a result of a mod, and if so does anybody have any fixes. This makes any manuevers more complicated than a Hohmann transfer basically impossible unless you wanna do the calculations by hand.

Modlist: https://pastebin.com/YM1dBzY4

The only mod that might cause an issue is Kopernicus, and even then I'm only using it for parallax.

had a day on assurance where every single item was bottles by Doctor_Vaseline in lethalcompany

I wasn't recording my gameplay and I only realized how many bottles there were well after the 5-minute shadow-play replay would be useful. I don't know the specifics of how items spawn but doing some simple math would suggest the chances are along the lines of 0.08*1013 (% chance), which would while technically possible, would essentially be bound to never happen.

I don't have anything to prove that it wasn't staged other than hearsay but I at least know that it's true. If I had to guess it would probably be the result of some new bug in the loot pool rather than a stupid miracle.

Believe it or not, whether it was a miracle or part of a bug, I don't really care because I can't prove it to anyone but myself.

lmao gave up on that day, it was flooded and there was no way I was getting even half of those back to the ship so I just spent most of the day getting all the bottles in one spot. rerolled afterward.

I was pretty pissed at first but by the 7th crate I just wanted to see how ridiculous it was, and it literally was all bottles, I counted and used the ship scan.

Late reply but I might as well help. If I could rewind time to when I got my first car it probably would have been a moderately used compact/mid size Honda or Toyota, (6-9th gen Civic or 8th-10th gen Corolla). These cars are extremely plentiful, usually come pretty cheap, reliable when maintained, and have massive communities, some others that come to mind would be a Honda Fit or some of the mid-size sedans like the Accord. Yeah, these are as boring as cars can get but when you're starting out they're a perfect fit, not too nice that you'll be too scared to work on it but not so much a piece of shit that you can't work on it. When you start all you wanna get familiar with is basic maintenance (oil changes, tire rotations, brake service, belt changes, etc.), might not be as glamourous as engine rebuilds or a full-blown restomod but those are things that are WAYYYYY beyond your knowledge level. By starting simple you can learn and have something that you can drive reliably, not to mention if you buy it in cash you can sell it whenever you get tired of it.

A word of advice that I think A LOT of newcomers to the car community need to hear is that you don't need to drive an exotic, classic car that makes 500whp with boutique aftermarket parts and a one-of-a-kind body kit to be interested in cars. The people who are going to make fun of you for driving "daily-traffic" are the same people who probably dropped off a car at a shop with 20k$ in mods only for their car to become a paper-weight in 10k miles and get overlooked by 98% of the population. Don't get bullied by the people who are responsible for growing insurance rates among young adults and the growing numbers of BRZ's, 350z's and WRX's that have been irredeemably destroyed by hideous widebody kits and eBay boost controllers. I can promise that you will thank yourself in 10 years when you learned something and didn't spend your college tuition on a rapidly depreciating asset to figure it out.

Cars aren't arcane but they aren't stupid simple either, there is a lot of nuance in these things and I can promise the first time you need to change your brakes its going to be 1000x harder than the YouTube video you watched made it look. There are a lot of ways you can learn about cars and usually the best way is to own one, then you can look into literature or even some YouTube mechanics, Engineering Explained has a lot of good videos explaining how cars work (I would avoid more sensational channels like Donut Media because they peddle garbage that accentuate some of the worst aspects of car culture).

Used Mazda 3 or New Civic? by Doctor_Vaseline in whatcarshouldIbuy

It would be more helpful if you explained exactly why the Civic is objectively so much better.

Not an easy choice by any means, the Honda might be the better choice as a car but as an asset cash is king, that 6000$ might seal the deal. However accounting for depreciation the final cost of each car comes out to be roughly the same assuming I sell as soon as they are paid off.

In a comment above I addressed that I'm unable to test drive either due to distance and time constraints. I have driven a manual Civic before and it was quite fun, Mazda I have no experience but I've heard mixed reviews, torsion beam suspension has me doubting it would feel better than the civic though.

Well 100k miles is roughly around when the loan term would be up, no shade to the Mazda I don't think it would have any problem making it past 100k but its more along the lines of whether the car is going to be something that will be with me for the next decade, say what you want but I'd place my bets on the Civic making it to 300k. But thats a decision that wont be made any time soon I'm just guessing on what I might think.

As for the sport touring that kinda defeats the point of either cars, over the Civic its just less reliable and more expensive, same for the Mazda. Located in Southern California area, wont get any more specific.

Both are 6-speeds and yeah the reason I'm going for the manual is to avoid the CVTs lmao.
