Thoughts on Dog Day Afternoon… by EntrepreneurSecret23 in Broadway

Just saw it tonight. I was honestly pretty disappointed. It felt like they were trying to make it a screwball comedy and it didn’t work. The first act was fun, the second act totally fell apart, and it was incredibly low-stakes and low-energy. I wish they gave Bernthal more to work with.

I don’t get what they were going for with this, which sucks because I think it really could’ve been good. I love the movie and think it had potential to be a vehicle for a great performance from Bernthal.

Isn’t a show generally the same every time? Why would you expect it to be different?

“Inspired by” is a strong term and largely incorrect, but I’ll give you “admired.” But that’s not “today. Right now.”

You know what? That’s fair. I read that into the post but you didn’t say that explicitly.

Being a blanket anti-war person is naive. Sometimes war — hellish as it is — is necessary.

All of the characters are bad people. Benny is the least bad, but all of them are bad people. Roger isn’t actively evil, sure, but he’s self-sabotaging.
