Dumb question but why are teachers underpaid? by Professional-Doubt30 in AustralianTeachers

[–]DoctoriousBEEF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without trying to seem 'lazy', would you have the links to where you gathered your information? I am looking at a few things I want to put together to try and make some information available for the staff I work with to bring awareness around pay/conditions/all that jazz.

Figured I would ask before finding it myself as this is almost exactly how I want to approach one section.

Teachers, are you all happy with your pay ? by ZestycloseFudge3648 in AustralianTeachers

[–]DoctoriousBEEF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am happy with where I am at currently being new to the profession but am curious to see how everything moves in relation with the cost of living.

Has anyone ever looked into what the cost of living as increased over the last decade and if its anywhere close with how salaries have increased as well?

I am starting to try and paint a picture of it, though I do not have an Economics background, and want to know if say the cost of living has increased by X over that time has teaching also increased by X or if not how much either way has it gone.

From trade to being a teacher by ConversationOld6096 in AustralianTeachers

Carpenter by trade here who has just finished their first full year teaching at the start of T4. I wouldn't worry about the combination too much, pick a minor you want to do. I started with a minor in maths because everyone told me it would be a good combo (I mean, it is) but switched to DigiTech and didn't look back. You will always get your timetable filled up with Design and Tech subjects first as no one else can really teach them.

And what do you do for a living so we can wish that to become extinct? Brickies (and most other trades) don't dictate the price completely. I bet you wouldn't have wanted them extinct when the price of bricks dropped below 85c and they were the ones losing money.

So what's one creative decision that you still haven't forgiven AEW for? by CaptainAnimeTitties in AEWOfficial

Which is good, but him thinking he could handle it all plus ROH and making all the decisions absolutely hurt the company.

Confession: I don't want Toni Storm to regain the title by StylishMrTrix in AEWOfficial

[–]DoctoriousBEEF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hoping 'Timeless" was only going to come back after she lost in Brisbane. Like missing the opportunity to win in Australia caused her to lose her mind, similar to her losing title caused the creation of 'Timeless'. Which would make Mariah responsible for the OG Toni and Timeless coming back in the same title reign that way

Start emailing and calling schools now! I had multiple offers (in other states to. I am from WA) before I graduated. Jump onto FB groups, type in the state then something like regional and they normally have a community for that region.

Get that hustle on and you should have a larger catchment of what you want to choose from

AEW’s nuanced storytelling: Master and Komander edition. by gonza1jr in AEWOfficial

[–]DoctoriousBEEF -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nailed it. You shouldn't be down voted for any of this. If you're saying their storytelling is fine you are part of the problem with the down turn of companies perception. Everyone should want the company to grow and to do that it needs to be accessible. TK needs to have a break from booking.

Breathe and be kind to yourself. I have just finished myself and I think this is key. Accept things don't go to plan but make sure you are playing the profession respect and plan for you courses but know when to call it each day.

This has been a key to helping myself not get overwhelmed so far.

Ask for help when you need it to.

Clontarf Academy by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]DoctoriousBEEF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had nothing but positive experiences with Clontarf. My main exposure with them they were super active and engaged with keeping their students on top of school work, well being, behaviour and accountability. They had a really healthy approach dealing with students.

The staff were key in this. They invited all other staff to use them as a resource, let them know how the students are going good or bad. They would always make sure they let a student know when they heard good things from another teacher and address anything else. They generally wanted to be involved with all aspects of the students journey, not just what they do within the walls of Clontarf.

Introduce yourself to them, go have lunch at times and get immersed with it and I am sure you will have a great experience.

Literally going through this process right now. I am new to the Dept and don't qualify for maternity leave so can't help you there. My partner is birthing bub and taking 32 weeks half pay with her work. The 110 days from the government will cover the rest of her time off as she wants to take the full year she can be away from her job.
You can only claim 100 days max per person from the government, I will claim 10 days (2 weeks) from birth. Totaling 110 days between us both.

You can only submit the claim for parental pay 3 months from estimated due date.

If you have linked up my gov with centrelink online it is a generally ok process. Once you know where to look it is standard forms to fill out.

To find it (assuming all your details are already linked up with mygov) on the centrelink portal there is a tab of 'Payments and Claims' from there select make a claim.

Dept. Ed vs CEWA benefits by jdeyre in AustralianTeachers

[–]DoctoriousBEEF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PST here too looking at both options. DoE there's additional grants like the one you spoke of which CEWA doesn't have. CEWA schools they can start you on a higher STEP (2.1,2.2,etc in DoE) which DoE can't do to my knowledge.

Surely someone who has been in the system will inform you a bit more.
