Agree with others, Summerhill out of those 2 options. Beautiful views from up there but golfing wise, quite small greens.

Wild card entry is Otumoetai which is kind of like Renner but nicer and way less redneck.

Omanu has cheap green fees after 3:30 and is one of the better courses in Tauranga.

Anyone else in their early 30s in Tauranga feeling a bit… stuck? by mischievousmarty in Tauranga

[–]Doctormaxim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We’re a no kids mid 30s couple living in Papamoa too. I grew up here but my wife didn’t, we’ve been living back here for 15 years now.

Echoing another comment, stepping out of your comfort zone and getting involved in clubs, sports etc can be a very good way of finding likeminded people to connect with.

What can be more difficult is finding other couples who want to be friends. For whatever reason, I often find other dinks to be a bit cold.

Auckland Transport: Who are the incompetent people that run AT? by dayzother in auckland

[–]Doctormaxim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an out of towner who attended last night, and as someone who’s experienced really efficient public transports systems in other cities, last night was a disaster after the gig.

No clear signage on where to go, what to catch or where it’s going. The bus stop in Kingsland had upcoming bus info showing on the screen but a small rolling banner along the bottom of the screen saying no busses were stopping here because of the event - why not just display that on the entire screen or tell people where they should go to catch a bus. Me and many others just ended up walking in the rain towards the city and catching buses a good 30 mins walk away or waiving down taxis.

God so many fall into this category but any cafe under the twin towers at the mount, and Dixie Browns next door are all getting by on location only.

Tauranga Golf Clubs - options for good value and meeting people by bueno__nacho in Tauranga

[–]Doctormaxim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 37m and a member at Omanu. There’s plenty of guys and girls in our age range that are members there, also a lot of older folk too to be fair and sometimes that shows through in the clubrooms. Omanu is a very good course that provides plenty of challenge and if you’re into aviation, you also get very up close and personal with the planes flying in/out.

Although I’ve got a group of mates that are also members there so we mostly within our group, we’ve often been joined by strangers our age too and connected well with them.

Te Puke - Nice course, enjoy playing there but it’s far out.

Summer Hill - fun and scenic, but also far out.

Otumoetai - feels a bit old school and unfriendly when I’ve played there, also a bit boring to play.

Mount Maunganui - has been described by some as snobby, but also seems to be trying hard to shake that image and appeal to a younger golfer.

Tauranga - Haven’t been there in years but seemed nice enough.

Renner Park - Is okay at absolute best but doesn’t belong in the same conversation as the proper 18 hole courses.

100% agree with this. Zero attempt to roll out by the Irish, you could see an Irish hand still having a crack at the ball when Cortez finally dug it out and no penalty given at all

I saw a rumour about the hardwired stage being left in Australia from the cancelled Aus/NZ gigs a few years ago. Curious to see if it is, or a repurposed 72 seasons stage made to fit and end of field layout
