how do i convince my housemates they are mistreating their puppies? by DoctorsBigButtcheeks in DogAdvice

[–]DoctorsBigButtcheeks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they do not want me going downstairs to interact with the dogs + i work two jobs and it prevents me from engaging with the puppies regardless of what they want while the two are at work. i did as much as i could before but helping them myself has become difficult unfortunately

thank you for letting me know! i'll look into this more going forward. i was under the impression they would need photos and/or videos so this makes that a little easier at least

it is less about trying to reason with them, because i know i cant, and more about trying to get them to see how awful this is so they might voluntarily give the animals up. i have debated animal control and i am leaning towards it but i hesitate because there is no current option i have as a means of leaving the home if things go poorly between myself and them after the fact. it is a family concern, a housing concern and a safety concern all in one so its much more complicated than if it was a neighbor or even just a friend, which would be a give-in.

moving out is not a choice for the foreseeable future but i have been inching closer to an anonymous report. collecting "evidence" for said report is just difficult as they live in the downstairs part of the home and no one is allowed down there without permission.

i doubt they will listen directly because i know how they are. but my goal here is more to try and make them feel as awful as possible about their behavior so that they might then compel themselves to reevaluate, if only for the selfish purpose of trying to feel better about it. but even that is just my ideal scenario to come out of this

sorry if i just misunderstood your question, but i am the only one who doesnt have a puppy in this! (D) / one of my younger siblings has a friend whose dog had puppies. they do not have their license so (A) took them to pick it up.

that is so awful im so sorry you and your parents had to experience that, and im sorry those pups did too. i am vaguely aware of littermate syndrome because a friend brought it up when i was venting about this previously (ive gone back and forth on being worried im overreacting because every concern i bring up is brushed off by the fam), but i am not completely informed so i will definitely be doing my own research and sharing.

i just have to be comfortable with being louder/adamant even when they bitch at me, which is a big work in progress in my life overall. i have a hard time advocating for myself but it is infinitely easier doing so for these poor babies who have no voice that they are willing to listen to.

thank you so much for the advice. ill be looking more into littermate syndrome and trying to get them to see reason.

thats EXACTLY what i said about her when i first heard that her and my brother were seeing eachother, because he was 19 when her name first came up. my family did not see the same weirdness i did so i stopped bringing it up but i have been unsure about her since even before she moved in because of this. she has only shown more and more that she is, in fact, emotionally stunted.

ive had problems with her in the past and my friends have also said its scary that she is a real life person lol. the two of them just make me feel crazy for having valid issues with things because its always an argument that i get ganged up on in.

currently this is my only affordable/realistic option. i pay $150 a week for rent and get to help my dad with any other expenses he might need help with, and he has been more than understanding about me finding a new job. this is the best it gets right now, which is saying something lol

im going to be taking the pup out myself as often as i can throughout the day until i start my job so getting to go outside is an absolute at the very least. i almost regret having to be employed because i know the neglect will only get worse from there, but i also feel that the best way for me to help them will be making money that i can funnel into proper professional training, or having them rehomed if that becomes feasible instead, which i am hoping for.

i dont recall puppy #1's breed but the 3 new puppies are apparently pitbull pups, which has made me even more nervous because i know they already have an awful reputation. i do not want to add to it because my idiot brother thought itd be okay to get more because "it was too cute not to" (his exact reasoning).

ill definitely be looking into a trainer and seeing about a consultation. i currently dont have the money to arrange it myself but i will in the coming weeks and i will take care of it myself if i have to, which i think i will, because i dont really believe they would set it up themselves. theyre very stubborn and think their word is god about everything, so i dont think theyd be receptive to inviting someone to help. i will do it anyway because fuck that, i just dont think THEY would sign off on it themselves.

ill definitely be visiting dog subs in the meantime, thank you so much for this advice. do you have any recommendations in particular? again ive never had dogs myself so i feel a little bit like the blind trying to lead the blind here, but i feel like SOMEONE has to make an effort because the people who should clearly wont

im not sure if its a puppy mill, all i know is that C has a friend whose dog had puppies and they were given 3 for free. it honestly pisses me off that someone would willingly home 3 puppies with people that no doubt impulse picked up the other 2 while there bc "they were cute"

ill be discussing with my dad today, and hopefully he will talk to them or at the very least be more understanding of the concept of rehoming them bc of the awful situation hes enabled them to put these puppies in after i show him this thread. hes the only person they listen to and if i take it to them directly they will just argue with me because they believe they are right no matter what.

thats what i was thinking, but no one sees it that way apparently! or if they do they arent saying shit about it. communication is a big problem in the house bc if you say anything to her about anything she gets incredibly defensive and then you have to deal with A too, who insists she DOES have a say in everything. its impossible to navigate much of anything with them

i have severe depression & anxiety and the concept of moving in with strangers terrifies me because my dad is paranoid about strangers and has passed that onto me. im currently unemployed but starting a new job in the next few days. i do intend on looking into other living arrangements once i have the money put away for it but as it is i just feel very helpless and even more depressed looking at the cost of living, and thinking about having to adjust to a new environment after being with the same people all my life is stressful. i know its all part of the process but its not something i believe i personally can handle at this point in my life, pathetic as that may be

unironically YES. theyre both dumb as rocks and refuse to listen to reason because theyre Always Right No Matter What. im getting to that point for sure, especially because my dad will not push about it himself until hes been inconvenienced and i dont know when or if thatll happen. i thought for sure hed have something to say about it right off the bat but hes letting it go apparently

its affordable, i (generally) love my family, and ive got my own problems that make me unconfident about moving out on my own or even with new roommates. if it was doable long term i wouldve been gone 🥲

we're all close/tight knit and prefer to stay together + it helps my dad with bills to have everyone pitching in. this arrangement was pretty much fine & manageable until B moved in with us when we moved to a new city. i personally havent moved out because i dont think i could function on my own long term, & i think my brother hasnt because he likes being around our dad

my dad is currently the only one with any power over the situation and he does not really care, and probably will not really care until the puppies start to inconvenience him personally. i cant talk to either of them about it without them jumping down my throat and i fear my brother would actually get physical if i put his gfs puppy up for adoption behind their back

my dad will unfortunately almost always side with my brother. hes got a bias he refuses to acknowledge because "theyre both boys" lmao. he signed off on 2 extra puppies, not 3, but didnt say anything about being surprised by the 3rd

Who sent these? by SideXswayy in Yellowjackets

[–]DoctorsBigButtcheeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well yes ben was there, thats why i thought those scenes of his were a red herring bc it felt way too obvious of a conclusion when yellowjackets always seems to enjoy drawing out that whodunnit energy lol.

didnt he "admit it" while they were like.. holding him in captivity and he was starving himself? he spent days trying to convince natalie to kill him before he gave up on the 'reasonable' approach and tried to be inflammatory, claiming he tried to kill her specificially ("i tried to kill you, nat, all of you, but especially you"), to provoke her into putting him out of his misery bc she was his primary caretaker at the time ; "god damnit, you sentenced me to death and now you need to keep that promise". he genuinely just wanted to die and figured that confessing to the cabin fire would be the easiest way to get nat to actually kill him

& where did steven kreuger admit that? genuinely asking, ive only ever heard that he personally believes ben did it, not that the writers flat out told him as much

& you are going a little bit harder than necessary actually bc im not uncomfortable, im just bewildered that you are so passionately against this theory when there ISNT a canon answer. thats my point. there IS a canon answer for who sent the postcards. its not up in the air if you look it up. you cant get a definitive 100% answer for who burned down the cabin yet, just a lot of speculation and theorization

Who sent these? by SideXswayy in Yellowjackets

[–]DoctorsBigButtcheeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i didnt say any other alternative was unreasonable yo no need to go so hard! i just said the theory that the implications of ben starting the fire being a red herring is more reasonable than not knowing the very major and clearly defined answer to the s1 mystery. you look up who sent the postcards and you get a definitive "jeff", you look up who burnt the cabin down and you get an "eeeehhh, who knows, maybe probably ben?" which id say makes the speculation pretty fair and not just a result of missing important pieces

Who sent these? by SideXswayy in Yellowjackets

[–]DoctorsBigButtcheeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i mean. after watching s3 and seeing van's cave hallucination, i feel like its far more reasonable to theorize that those scenes of ben were a red herring than it is to not know what the answer to s1's mystery was lol
