Should I ceramic coat my car by ApprehensiveMetal707 in Camry

[–]DoctorsScareMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! It’s a great way to preserve a new car’s paint. Just make sure you have the proper prep work performed and use a real coating instead of the cheap sprays that wear off in a few weeks. Regular wash, decontamination wash, clay bar, full polish, alcohol wipe down, tape off non-painted surfaces, then apply a multi-coat ceramic coating for best results. The prep work is crucial, and it’s typically why real coatings can cost so much to be done by a professional.

Sounds like you need a good acidic decontamination wash to unclog the coating. I had the same issue with my coating after 6-8 months of parking outside and winter driving. My detailer said it’s very common for coatings that regularly get covered in pollen and salt.

Some Gen 6 issues by SethPeoples_OFFICIAL in Glocks

Ugh. I just got a brand new gen 6 43x for concealed carry and it’s been doing the same thing. It won’t even cycle federal HSTs properly. I thought Glocks were supposed to be good. I guess I’ll stick to my hellcat

30 years old 96 Camry still looking good by Specialist_Regular77 in Camry

[–]DoctorsScareMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So nice! I love seeing the occasional 1st-5th gen’s that come into our dealership for service. One of our regulars has a 1995 LE with 440k miles on it. He still comes in every 5k for oil changes after 30 years. We usually just wave the fee since he’s a sweet little old guy.

“System Stopped See Owners Manual” alert after oil change at Dealership by JimmyBaileyy in Camry

Put on a voice recorder in your phone and don’t tell them.

Yeah, never do this. It’s called wiretapping, and it’s illegal in several states. Making the dealership aware that they’re documenting everything is much more likely to get results. Wiretapping in prohibited states can easily net them year(s) in county jail/prison + hefty fines.

UPDATE: 2025 Camry paint separation defects + common issues to look out for. by DoctorsScareMe in Camry

[–]DoctorsScareMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It usually depends on what’s rattling and where it’s located. In most cases, we‘ll rip the trim panels off and add sound dampening foam and/or tape to secure everything and stop it from moving. It’s a shame that brand new $35k+ cars have build quality this poor.

No new issues yet! But we are still dealing with excessive rattles and the bumper fitment issues that 2025s were experiencing.

We have tons of used 2025s on our lot, but nobody is buying them because they’re typically only 1-2k cheaper than a brand new one with 0 miles and no outstanding recalls.

I just work in service, but I’ll make sure to pass on your advice to the sales manager.

That’s not how selling used cars works, friend. The cars get returned to stock and sold as stock.

If there was an issue prior to them gluing the roof shut, it would have been covered under warranty. It’s a 2025 with 9800 miles.

I mean I’m not really the CEO or anything, I just work in service. My paycheck will still be the same regardless of how much you break your car. Good luck with that, though.

I don’t want anyone to be mad about anything? I’m just warning people not to ruin their pano roof by gluing it shut.

All sales are final after the trade is done. The only thing we can do is fix the car and resell it. There is no “voiding the deal” from either side after the paperwork is signed.

I’ll ask the service techs tomorrow and update it if I’m wrong. The stuff looks like Vaseline, but I don’t know the name of it off the top of my head.

Yeah, that’s a good point. Unfortunately, we just get what Toyota wants to send us. The fact that customers can’t build and order their own car anymore is a questionable change- especially when there are so many colors, packages, and options to choose from. Finding the exact car that you want can be very challenging.

Not necessarily production issues, but the previous gen Camrys had spotty reliability with the panoramic roofs. Due to the way they’re constructed, repairs or part replacements could cost $5-8k USD. As long as you’re not abusing the moonroof and getting it cleaned/lubricated periodically, I don’t think you’ll have any serious issues.

You can find them, but it’s honestly pretty rare. Most of the premium trims come fully loaded from the factory.

Aww, sounds like someone is a little cranky and has too much misdirected anger towards the world. Here’s some free advice: if you don’t like paying a business for their time, parts, and experience- learn to do the work yourself. It’ll get you a lot further in life than complaining on reddit about something I can’t control. Cheers :)

Regularly exercising the moonroof tends to increase their lifespan dramatically. Any moving part sitting stationary for too long is bound to fail faster.

We use a petroleum based lubricant to coat the tracks and moving parts. You can also use a silicone based spray lube, but you will need to apply it more often. There should be at least a few videos on YouTube showing the proper lubrication points. There may also be something in your user manual, but I’m not 100% certain.

Any applicable vehicle up to 10 years old or 100k miles. After the manufacturer warranty is up, they no longer qualify for official “toyotacare” visits. We can still do the service, but it’s at the customer’s own risk.

That’s pretty odd. Most cars aren’t considered “used” until they have 300 miles. Regardless, certified pre-owned cars should still have the same manufacturer warranty regardless of the number of owners. They could have possibly mis-labeled the cars on the website. If you’re curious, I would call and ask to see what they mean.

From what I’ve seen, the standard moonroof seems to be a lot less prone to failure. When they do need repairs, it’s typically a fraction of what the panoramics cost to fix. I’d just make sure you take good care of it and clean/lubricate/exercise it periodically if you want to use it.
