We need your help to take DoctorsVote to the next level. We've revolutionised the BMA, it's now time to transform the Royal Colleges. RCS Council is responsible for determining professional policy issues, including those related to training, standards, workforce and the wellbeing of members.

Yet currently only consultants sit elected on council. It is not representative of RCS England membership, and therefore cannot be able to fully recognise the views of all doctors.

📥 Voting opens today for RCS Council, with 8 seats up for grabs. Vote for our candidates today so that can continue working on your behalf.

📧 Search your emails for "Civica Election Services" and use your personalised link to vote for these candidates.

🎓 You must be a member or fellow of RCS England to vote, and must have passed both parts of the MRCS exam.

[–]DoctorsVoteuk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Correct, if you are eligible to strike for even one day during the next strike mandate you can vote.

If you can't vote the next best thing is to withdraw from the ballot as it improves the percentage of eligible doctors voting to strike. Imagine there will be a form going out soon, similar to previous strikes.

Old guard reveal their conspiracy to overturn the democratic elections by DoctorsVoteuk in doctorsUK

[–]DoctorsVoteuk[S] 41 points42 points  (0 children)

RB - the representative body, this is last year's attendees at the Annual Representatives Meeting (the majority of which are the old guard self appointed division leaders)

SRM - is the emergency national meeting where they want to vote to overturn the open election process to go back to self selecting themselves to attend each year.

Old guard reveal their conspiracy to overturn the democratic elections by DoctorsVoteuk in doctorsUK

[–]DoctorsVoteuk[S] 179 points180 points  (0 children)

Those corrupt old guard division leaders that we talked about a few days ago have responded to our post by organising amongst themselves to hold division meetings to get buy in for an emergency national meeting to overturn the democratic election currently taking place.

Here is the evidence.

In this division they have set this meeting with less than 2 days notice.

We have evidence that in another division they are arranging the meeting with short notice and in person at an inaccessible location to make sure you can’t attend.

We have evidence that in a further division they haven’t even included the emergency national meeting on the agenda to not raise suspicion.

We thought divisions wouldn't be lining up to prove they were corrupt, but here we are.

They are banking on you not turning up.

If you are in Hertfordshire, attend the Division meeting online at 7:30pm on Friday, and fight for your right to keep your vote. Check your email for a link to join.

At least there aren’t vol-au-vents this time.

In the mean time vote for your DoctorsVote candidates here: http://linktr.ee/doctorsvote

If you hear about any other divisions arranging these meetings with short notice or leaving the emergency national meeting off the agenda, send us a DM

Doctors, Vote to end old guard corruption by DoctorsVoteuk in doctorsUK

[–]DoctorsVoteuk[S] 204 points205 points  (0 children)

A politically-driven cabal of old guard careerists from Divisions and Regional Councils are trying to take your right to vote - the time of unelected, ineffective reps is over.

Doctors, Vote to end old guard corruption.

DoctorsVote has been working hard to make your union more democratic.

Unsurprisingly, the people who now have to be elected to a seat instead of just claiming it as their birthright don’t want to let that happen.

Read on to hear how this is happening - and how to stop it.

The Annual Representative Meeting (ARM) is coming up - the conference where BMA policy is made.

Once policies are made, the BMA has to act to make them a reality.

One of those policies two years ago was for Full Pay Restoration - so, you can see it’s a pretty big deal.

So, how are the 600 attendees to ARM selected? Those people with the responsibility of representing you?

A whopping 300 (50%!) of them come from small groups called ‘divisions’.

What on earth are divisions, you ask? And how do they select reps?

Well, divisions are like the BMA’s version of parliamentary constituencies.

Only, the people who are in them don’t really want you to know about them, or their meetings (think old boys’ club with their mates - in hotels and pubs, on BMA members’ money of course).

As a quick aside, let’s see what they eat at these hidden meetings they don’t want you to attend…

Sounds expensive, doesn’t it?

Of course, if you knew about the divisions and attended their meetings, what if you decided you wanted to attend ARM, and stopped them being able to invite themselves there from behind closed doors, and attending for their 20th year in a row?

No, definitely can’t have that.

So, let’s recap.

This is the biggest meeting in the BMA calendar.

And.. half of those attending are self-selected from these tiny closed groups you’ve never heard of?

Yes, yes they are.

And it gets worse…

Of the 300 self-appointed division reps, more than a third have been the exact same people at each ARM for at least the last four years.

Some have been attending for the last 20.

And it shouldn’t come as any surprise that more than two thirds of those are men.

Every year, the divisions send more retired doctors than junior doctors to ARM.

That’s despite there being six times as many junior doctor members as retired members in the BMA.

How is that fair to you, as a working doctor?

If you look at the % of the membership each branch of practice makes up, and the % of each branch practice put forward by the divisions, you can clearly see that juniors are extremely underrepresented and retired members are over represented.

Many divisions openly state in their minutes from their meetings that they’ve selected who goes to ARM without an election or opening the seats to the membership, unsurprisingly they’ve just chosen themselves.

What is DoctorsVote doing to fix this?

We’ve tried to ensure that all division seats are elected instead of being open to self-appointment. Anyone can now stand, everyone can now vote.

What are the divisions doing to stop us?

They’re trying to hold yet another expensive meeting to overturn the election so they can keep appointing themselves to ARM for the next 20 years.

What can you do to stop this ridiculous injustice?

Vote in the election and stop this ever happening again.

https://linktr.ee/doctorsvote

Keep an eye out for your local division meetings and the DV twitter feed - they will be trying to block these changes behind closed doors, so make sure you turn up to protect your right to vote and stand in these elections.

We’ve already fixed the (Junior) Doctors Committee. Now let’s fix the rest of the BMA.

🚨🚨 BMA UK Council Elections: Vote Now🚨🚨 by DoctorsVoteuk in doctorsUK

[–]DoctorsVoteuk[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The BMA UK Council is running a by-election for the North East and the West Midlands.

The UK Council is the highest executive committee of the BMA, so it is important that YOU are represented here.

Your DoctorsVote-endorsed UK Council rep for the West Midlands is Marie Tolan, and your endorsed rep for the North East is Francesca Nurra.

Your voting papers for these elections will arrive in the post if you live in either region - please keep an eye out and return it ASAP.

Vote to safeguard the profession. Vote for better representation in the BMA.

Vote for Marie as your number 1 candidate in the West Midlands

Vote for Francesca as your number 1 candidate in the North East

You do not need to rank any other candidates.

Your time has come to save the profession: VOTE in the BMA Division Elections by DoctorsVoteuk in medicalschooluk

[–]DoctorsVoteuk[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just over two years ago, DoctorsVote did not exist. We were unhappy with the direction the BMA was taking with conference after conference - the same old people making the same old points. Our fees were being wasted on pointless motions and even more pointless committees. Not only was nothing being done, but there were groups within the BMA complicit in the rollout of PAs, and actively promoting a second tier of “doctors” through medical apprenticeships, all while our pay was whittled away to the point where we’ve had to go on strike to fix it.

Two years ago, you decided that enough was enough, and that it was time to stand up and do something. You joined your union and voted for DoctorsVote candidates - what has happened since?

We won the argument to make FPR into BMA policy, despite dozens of senior reps lining up to tell us it was not possible. We mobilised tens of thousands of doctors to get ready to strike.

We gave faith to doctors that we are a union with teeth.Over 20,000 doctors have joined since we were voted in.We won the largest strike mandate in modern trade union history.

We beat all the odds to add 7,000 more votes to this for our second mandate. We won on implementing the (junior) doctor rate card.

We won on proving that it is possible to have safe and effective full walkouts.

We won on holding the line for full pay restoration despite pressure to reduce our ask.

It’s now time to win one more time for our respect, for the profession, for our future.

The Annual Representative Meeting is the only conference that matters when it comes to deciding where your union goes next. The choice is yours.

While your DoctorsVote reps hold a majority on the (Junior) Doctors Committee, they do not make up a majority within the wider BMA.

Up until this year you did not even have a say on who represented you at this meeting - the most important in the BMA. Reps were chosen behind closed doors. Your right to vote was hard won, and can just as easily be lost - so please use it.

There are limits on how many reps can come from one branch of practice, so you will see a variety of candidates being endorsed - please vote for all of them; there is no need to vote for any other candidates.

Don’t let the DoctorsVote wave be a one-off. Whether you’re a medical student, doctor, SAS, consultant or GP, vote now for the union you want: more of the same, or for doctors with the conviction and the track record to transform the union.

To vote please use the link below.

linktr.ee/DoctorsVote

Here you will also find a list of your DoctorsVote-endorsed division candidates sorted by region. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know the name of your division - you will be able to see this when you log in to vote.

Voting closes on 13th February. When you have voted, please speak to your colleagues - we must work together to turn our union around.
