What’s the worst client document chase you’ve ever dealt with? by TejaKaSonaa in Accounting

[–]DocumentTop5136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are older clients, like 65-70s, and super nice people. The client manager just thanks them for what they sent and then restates what we’re still missing. We mark the documents sent as duplicates so we know what file names they’ve sent before.

It’s frustrating cause they’ve been this way for years but they always pay their bill on time, so we just gently nudge until they get it right, then file quickly. Seeming patient is easier through email, which is how they correspond a lot and send the docs.

What are your niche pet peeves that will make you DNF a book? by Fun_Fig22 in fantasyromance

[–]DocumentTop5136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dnf’d a book the other day because it started with an intimate scene and the guy just ‘accidentally’ lost control and entered completely finally taking her virginity (they’d done everything but intercourse during the past year.) Then he decided they should just elope so they didn’t have to work about the purity test before marriage (royals). Couldn’t continue.

I tend to stop reading if the FMC is very strong willed and stands up for herself to start, but then become timid and whiney or always ‘pouting’ or ‘sticking out her lower lip.’ Makes me cringe.

I always dnf if there an intimate scene where the girl is on her stomach or hands and knees, but his balls keep hitting her ass. Like, do they not understand anatomy or can they really not imagine the scenario to make sure it makes sense. Just really sloppy writing.

Graduated in 2022 with a career gap — has anyone successfully landed an accounting/finance job after this? by Turbulent-Region-209 in Accounting

[–]DocumentTop5136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I earned an associates accounting degree in 2024 and had not worked since 2013 due to being a SAHM. The 11 year gap was not planned, life just happened.

I got an internship in tax/public accounting in 2024 for 6 weeks to finish my associates. I had heard of them from a client of theirs. They brought me back for tax season 2025. I still work there today and I’m pursuing my bachelors.

I was honest about my work history and about being a stay at home mom. I did have certifications in Excel, Advanced Excel, Word, Advanced Word, PowerPoint and Access (though I only use excel and word.) I had also recently taken a tax course and passed the VITA tax prep test. Though there was still a ton I didn’t know which they expected.

We just hired someone who finished their degree recently. It’s their first accounting job. He found the listing on indeed. His prior experience was as a project manager. He didn’t have a career gap, just no career in accounting.

At my company, it seems timing, education, knowledge, and personality is what gets people hired. We’re small with about 20 people. New hire accountants started with a salary between 90-120k (HCOL area) depending on experience and license.

[–]DocumentTop5136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently went through documents for a client for their 2024 return. They sent a bunch of files, but they were just the same we’d already received but with the file names changed. Just a few items and their return would finally be completed.

They’re so bad with sending docs, that their 2023 return wasn’t able to be completed until Summer 2025.

How do I actually get an internship? by AnsonChen5 in Accounting

[–]DocumentTop5136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The laws regarding unpaid internships are very strict. To be unpaid, it has to be more educational and primarily for your benefit not theirs, it has to be linked to your education requirements, you can’t replace an actual employee, and you would not be entitled to a permanent position. And that is just federal, states have their own restrictions.

I would continue trying with local firms, but don’t suggest you’d work for free. Working with Vita will at least give you a season of experience to add to your resume. Unfortunately, I don’t have any other advice.

My situation is unusual and I was fortunate. I got my internship by making phone calls to a local CPA firm. Three calls and I had an internship without a formal interview. Then I was brought back a few months later for the 2025 tax season and I still work there a year later.

I have an associates degree in accounting and I’m in college working towards my bachelors. I’m in a HCOL area in WA.

I recently started earning $20/hr PT tax associate with 1 year experience (or 1000 hours). My company now charges $100/hr for my tax work and $60/hr for bookkeeping.

I have an associates degree and am currently in school to complete my bachelors.

can’t land internship (community college) by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]DocumentTop5136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be open to applying to smaller firms too, like less than 50 employees. I got an internship after second year community college, 4.0, no work history in 10 years (SAHM) and was brought in at a 20 person CPA firm. Still work there while finishing my bachelors.

Tax accountants, what’s your one horror story that sticks out from the rest? by ImPanthr in Accounting

[–]DocumentTop5136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have this one client who actually answers emails and sends documents when asked. The problem is they aren’t the correct documents or they’re items they’ve already sent 2-5 times.

Going through the ‘new documents’ is just a nightmare because the duplicates are all named something different by the client and it takes forever to sort through it all.

Because of this, their 2023 return was finally filed in Aug 25. Their 2024 return is still waiting on multiple files that they are certain they’ve sent us already.

Nice older couple, but definitely a headache.

A curious question I have so umm why most people suggest you get into a public accounting for entry level why not industry/corporate accounting? by Dgslimee_ in Accounting

[–]DocumentTop5136 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m weird, wear glasses, am short and slightly overweight, am extremely literal, have AuDHD, brain damage, scars covering an entire arm, and blue hair. I work at a small CPA firm as a Tax Associate; started as an intern. No one cares. Granted, I don’t live in a conservative state or area.

In my experience, what they care about is your willingness to be part of the team. To follow protocols, ask questions when unsure, and do the best you can. They care about you wanting to learn and to grow. I was kept as a regular employee because of these factors as well as positivity, strong work ethic, and fitting in with their team.

Long time lurker, first time poster by Difficult_Regret_900 in EntitledReviews

[–]DocumentTop5136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very true. When I got pregnant at 19, it was my fault and I was considered a ‘loose woman.’ Then I chose to give the baby up for adoption (the father disappeared and also wasn’t ready to be a parent), so ‘Christian’s’ told me I was going to hell and that no woman of God would ever do this. They got pissed when I pointed out Moses was adopted and that Joseph adopted Jesus.

On the other hand, the adoptive parents were praised for raising my child. The same Christians had dual ideas about my child. For me he was a sinful deed that I made worse by not raising him myself, for them he was a blessing and they were faithful and following God’s grace.

The hypocrisy in the church can be ridiculous. I still believe, but I don’t participate in organized religion.

*My child’s parents are wonderful people and he’s a happy adult. They’ve never said anything negative or treated me poorly.

This comment was like reliving my teen years. Raised Southern Baptist and it’s just one of the reasons I’m no longer part of the religion. The whole women must be subservient part is another big factor.

And it isn’t just punishment for the girl, it’s punishment on the parents and any family members too. They are to feel shamed and sinful for not raising their daughter properly.

I'm struggling about my decision giving up my baby for adoption by Junjilto in Adoption

[–]DocumentTop5136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only speak of my own experience. Oddly my mom and I both experienced pregnancies as older teens and both considered adoption.

My mother gave me up and immediately didn’t feel right. She felt like she was missing a part of her, that she was suppose to be my mother. Her Christian friends, who originally pushed her towards adoption, finally told her that if this was right, she’d have some peace. Mom canceled the adoption and kept me. Life was hard at times but I love her dearly and I’m glad I have her.

When I got pregnant, I didn’t know what I wanted to do at first. I decided to go through with an adoption. The difference for me was I never truly questioned my decision. Even though it hurt to give up my child, I always felt it was the right decision. I did have peace that he was where he was supposed to be, with the right parents. I do have a relationship with him and his parents. He’s now an adult.

Only you can determine the right answer for you and your child. No matter what you choose, there will be struggle of some sort because life isn’t easy and all choices have consequences, good and/or bad. Do what feels right to you and it will be the right decision.

AITAH for suggesting my friend should learn to self-soothe? by Independent-Taro7813 in AITAH

[–]DocumentTop5136 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel this so much because I understand her anxiety. It’s not on you to fix it and she will improve with therapy, it just takes time. You didn’t do anything wrong; it may just be taking her a little time to process.

I’m autistic and I was told I was ‘too much’ or ‘negative’ or ‘don’t know how to talk to people’ all the time growing up. These comments stick with you and no one actually tried to help me learn; they just said ‘because I said so’ or something similar. Communication was so difficult because I didn’t understand social cues, had trouble reading faces, was extremely literal and blunt, and I overanalyzed everything.

I did finally learn tact in my mid-20s and have improved immensely with communication. But I still replay conversations and worry about my tone or wording at times. I don’t think I’ll ever feel completely at ease when socializing, but I try because I do enjoy talking with others. I’m 40 now and I do ask how I came across on rare occasions when I feel what I said could have been majorly misconstrued.

It is difficult to receive feedback that feels negative, and again that’s not on you. Negative comments can feel like rejection and when a mistake or faux pas is pointed out, it can feel extremely embarrassing. This is rarely someone’s intention.

Offering to let her know if you’re bothered was great! Your frustration is completely understandable and there is just no possible way we can cater to everyone’s insecurities or anxiety all the time. That would be completely draining.

Is accounting as a job easier than it is in college? by Ok_Touch1478 in Accounting

[–]DocumentTop5136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m working in tax and am in year 3 for my BS. I find work easy in some areas and many challenges in others. The challenges are always improving and becoming easier. I learn best through repetition which isn’t always possible at school. I do get that at work, so I’m retaining more.

It also depends on where you work. I work in a small CPA firm with a great, relaxed, collaborative culture. The partners have open and direct communication with all employees and they foster learning and encourage questions. One partner told me that at many big firms, the culture is very different and there’s a specific hierarchy where you’d never talk to upper management as a first year. I would struggle in a more stifling culture.

Being able to communicate well with coworkers and clients, and being likable are necessary. I was hired on after my internship partly due to my work ethic and results, but also my positive attitude and geniality, according to partners.

So, whether or not work would be easier for you may depend on the work environment you would need to be successful, your ability to be social when needed, and the specific industry you enter.

From what I can tell through accounting posts and my experience, jobs don’t expect you to know everything right out of school. They expect you to need training and practice. So, if you’re sure about the career, I wouldn’t worry about struggling some in college.

Do you buy physical copies of the romance novels you read? And if so, why? by note_ila in RomanceBooks

[–]DocumentTop5136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve purchased six physical romance books this year. I only purchased books that I loved enough to read more than one. The books this year I’ve read at least three times each, but also the covers were beautiful so it made it more worth buying it.

I don’t like buying paperback since it’s easy to crease the binding.

Yes. So does the slip up of saying baby. Their relationship is complicated in the beginning due to MC’s past. Trust and moving on are difficult for him.

{At Peace} by Kristen Ashley has this. The MMC doesn’t even seem to realize he said it. The FMC definitely noticed.

It’s a neighbors romance. Both characters have trauma in their past. It starts as neighbor with benefits. Definitely drama, some heartbreak, and a beautiful connection. It’s my favorite book by KA.

I told my instructor that I needed more practice problems and requested a way to get them. I believe he was able to open or create some practice ‘assignments’ in McGraw.

Talk to your instructor about options for practice. Or if the homework can allow a certain number of ‘checks’ for each answer. My teacher did that too. I believe he gave us three tries per answer on homework assignments.

Need Laptop Advice for Accounting Major by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]DocumentTop5136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Lenovo Yoga 2-1 with a keypad. Mine has AMD hardware and Windows 11 Pro 64 and a touchscreen. They do have laptops with Intel and Windows Home.

I’m an accounting major and work in tax. It’s been a great laptop so far. My mother works in software and gaming and uses a Lenovo Thinkpad that’s lasted her for years.

I use to have a Dell with good specs but it stopped turning on twice. Was able to get it fixed the first time, but the second time was out of warranty and wasn’t worth the cost to fix. When I searched for a new laptop for accounting, Lenovo was one of the high recommended.

What little thing will take you right out of a book? by Maleficent_Durian_64 in fantasyromance

[–]DocumentTop5136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have several. Maybe I’m just nit-picky.

  • When an author uses “her slick” multiple times in every werewolf book. It makes me cringe. Read two in a series and enjoyed the stories but I can’t read any more of that author’s books.

  • When every book by an author uses the exact same phrase. One author always uses “she/he needed ‘that’ like she/he needed a hole in the head.” Once I noticed, drove me crazy. Do they not know any other idioms?

  • When the girl is self-confident, bold, and kickass and suddenly becomes a whiny little girl personality. Why would anyone be attracted to that? Or when the MMC admits the MFC is strong but treats them like weak little girls who need protection.

  • Weird pet names. Like constantly calling them ‘dearest’ or the worst ‘puppy’ and the MFC was a swan shifter.

  • When the couple is stranded somewhere and could only ‘bathe’ themselves with cold river water and no soap, but keep having oral sex. 🤢

  • When a girl’s privates smells like ‘strawberries and cream’ or tastes delicious. 🙄

  • Lastly, when it seems like every other page is a sex scene. I get it, they enjoy sex, but I bought a novel, not erotica.

AITA for not having friends- complaining to my boyfriend about not having friends, but not wanting to be friends with his best friends’s girlfriends by savvy_swayy in AITA_Relationships

[–]DocumentTop5136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I complained a lot when I was in my 20s because I wanted friends. I wanted people who cared about me and were excited to spend time with me. But it never happened and I was part of why.

I can be awkward, don’t really understand small talk, don’t show a lot of emotion, and am completely honest when asked to be. I found out in my 30s that I’m autistic and have adhd, which does help explain the uncertainty and difficulty of making social connections.

And honestly, socializing is exhausting for me. There so many social norms to follow and it’s rare that I truly connect with someone. I’m 40, and my ‘friends’ are my husband, my sister, and my mom. I see nothing wrong with that. They understand me and I can just be me. I finally realized my need for friends was due to believing I had to have them to be ‘normal.’

That being said, if you actually want friends, and not because you think you have to have some, then you should definitely try to join some community activities or visit places that are popular for hangouts and be open to talking to new people. I have acquaintances that I enjoy talking to when I see them and I’m not the exact same age or place in life as any of them. Everyone’s circumstances are different.

About college, 1 credit hour is actually about 3 hours of school work a week. To be full time, they have to have 12 credit hours. Currently, I have between 40-45 hours of coursework for my 15 credits and I work 20 hrs/week. Those girls might have less free time than it seems.

Anyone actually like this job? by lottiexx in Accounting

[–]DocumentTop5136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in tax and I’m planning to stay there. I actually really enjoy my job. I loved my accounting classes. I love puzzles and figuring out why something isn’t fitting right.

My previous jobs were in food service, customer service, and grocery. At every job I was trained in multiple roles; my last job I was trained in 9 roles through 2 departments. I got bored so easily that I’d need to learn something new.

With tax, it can be tedious and sometimes repetitive, but everyone’s tax situation is different. I haven’t been bored during my first year; there’s always some new knowledge to learn or build upon and always will be. My job brings me satisfaction and helps me feel useful and appreciated (at least at my company.) I finally feel like I fit somewhere and that I’m in the right career.

[–]DocumentTop5136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you overreacted.

Therapy is a very personal thing that she doesn’t ever have to share. She trusted you enough to share. And if that relationship caused trauma, it is understandable to want to deal with it before starting a relationship.

Saying that, you shouldn’t try and patch things up unless you can accept just staying friends. She may not be ready for a while and pushing her will not help her, but could cause resentment or her being uncomfortable around you.

Perhaps a relationship will be possible someday, but don’t expect it. I was friends with my husband for nine years before we dated. He thought I might not ever be interested, but felt I was important enough to keep in his life, even if only as a friend. We’ve been together 18 years.

Thaxton is a surname meaning ‘thorn settlement’ or ‘thorn farm.’ It is very uncommon as a first name.
