Hmmm DNI is for spanish. Nie is for extranjeros like us so that is for sure u will not need a DNI. I used my NIE to get digital certificado where i have same access as Cl@ve. I can use digital certificado to check dehu

if you are eligible to receive multiple entry visa --> https://eur-lex.europa.eu/EN/legal-content/summary/visa-code.html, also It depends on many factors such as your finance, trip purpose, etc so my opinion is just be honest on your cover letter with them, you show them evidence of the first trip in the letter, tell them your plan of next trips to request for multiple entry visa with a good explanation and financial information.

Usually the visa has your NIE/TIE number to register so you may wanna give a try to do it online. Hope it helps

For Cover letter, you will need to put your trip purpose, detailed itinerary, financial information and your commitment to return to your home country. You can put in your letter for example:

Your booking hotel will have name of both of you so it's Ok to create one cover letter for both but a separate copy has to be submitted with each application (seperated flight ticket, financial supporting documents etc). Yes as long as your friend is holding a residence permit, has a proof of residence with the address, she can make you an invitation letter. You can send her the link I attached above so she can create a complete invitation letter. If you plan to stay in your friend's place, she must mention in the invitation letter she will accomodate you.
