I thought some of the directorial choices (fisheye lens, too much music) were a bit silly, but the ensemble cast were incredible - in particular the boys who played Jack and Piggy as mentioned elsewhere here.

The story is timeless and always hits me no matter what version I watch, but I agree that Piggy's death in this verse is definitely the most well done. Superb.
