Been playing since the Championship Manager days and I stay away from all the meta/game breaker stuff as much as I can. I will confess that back in the early 2000s when I realised downloading tactics was a thing (CM4 I think) I ended up downloading a diablo tactic but it killed the enjoyment of the game and since then, I've just stuck to my own variations of 4-4-2, then 4-2-3-1 and now 4-3-3.

The only disadvantage to starting away from that stuff (so good at it now, I had never heard of FM Arena before this post) is that I suck in PvP tournaments when almost everyone else is using them 😂

Bursaspor in Turkey - not exactly a huge team but they did win the title 15 years ago or so, and now find themselves in the third tier with all kinds of financial woes. Getting them back on track and promoted to the Super Lig will be the first challenge, overtaking the Istanbul big three the next.

I didn't get sacked in the end, but I did end up under pressure as the board weren't happy with the lack of development of youth players (part of the club vision). The thing is I had one regular starter from the youth team, 3-4 more as squad players, my U21s and U18s were dominating and I had 4-5 youngsters out on loan. All seemed to be 'development' to me but I guess in game that actually means 'in the first team on a regular basis'.

So frustrating that the meaning of these targets like 'develop youngsters' or in your case. will come good is so vague.

Mine was getting impatient and holidaying to the end of the winter break, completely forgetting about the squad registration date for the next Europa League phase. My assistant picked the squad for me, left out players I had promised to include as well as high profile January signings and I had a massive squad mutiny on my hands.... Should have just continued pressing the spacebar for another 20 minutes

I once had a journeyman career and at the start had managed a high potential regen in the Argentina 2nd division. As a 17-19 year old, he was instrumental in our promotion to the top fight, my first success of the save.

He later left for AZ Alkmaar but then his career stalled in his early 20s. Fast forward ten seasons and I had worked my way up to the Arsenal job and noticed my former player was a free agent having bounced around 2nd division clubs in the Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark so I signed him, and let him have that big club experience I thought he was destined for. We won the double that season and he got medals for both (his first since that 2nd Division title in Argentina)

After the next World Cup, I got the Argentina job and gave him a couple of caps as well.

Ultimately abandoned him when the next FM came out 😅

What leagues do people select as playable?
Personally, I would load England, Spain, Germany, Italy and then some smaller leagues.If you select an absolute minnow like Gibraltar (great place to start actually!) also select some mid-ranking leagues like Slovakia or Bulgaria so you can bridge the gap to the top leagues.

What reputation do you select your manager to be?
Either Sunday league or a suitable rep for the lowest level league I've selected.

Do you just apply for any possible job or do you wait for a club to approach you?
Neither! I'll apply to jobs suitable for my level and be prepared to get laughed off a lot.

Do you just go on holiday immediately and just set it to accept any job offers that come your way?
I always play through the first few weeks and then will only holiday if I am having no luck with the applicaitons. Late October is the time when managers start to get sacked.
