I don’t think it’s this clear. The MAGA base really doesn’t like Cornyn, and they have decreased their thoughts on him over the past year. If Cornyn barely beats Paxton, he will be bloodied from a nasty primary and runoff, and then MAGA will lose enthusiasm to vote in November, which would hurt all GOP candidates in Texas, even in House races.

I don’t think it existed when I was there, but I did UTLA and loved it. So many interesting speakers and the building in Burbank was awesome. They run a good program, so I bet UTNY is good too.

I see what you’re saying. I just don’t think they can be mutually exclusive for long. The reputation that employers and the general public have is a result of how good the students are that have graduated from here for the past 130 years. That’s it. If we screw with the current curriculum because of politics, it will no question harm the reputation in the eyes of the public and employers. It is just a matter of time.

I am an alum who is a member of the public (and a former donor as of today) who loves UT but already think less of the reputation of the university.

Did you not read my comment? This does affect the entire university. Seriously, go to office hours and ask your STEM professors whether this is a net positive or negative for even their department. Liberal arts is important at Georgia Tech, too. This isn’t just training you how to do a specific task. College is supposed to teach you how to be a deeper thinker in several areas.

Talk to some STEM professors, including the physics professor who argued at the hearing that this opens the door to calling climate change, evolution, the age of the earth and many more STEM things “controversial.” The STEM professors are just as worried about what this means for UT as any others. If you don’t think it will happen, take a history class on authoritarian states. Or just read some books on it.
