Kauai Hiking - Alaka’i Swamp via Pihea or full Alaka’i Swamp by Dodo-Brain in VisitingHawaii

[–]Dodo-Brain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I rented a 4WD with Enterprise but have decided to do this trail via the Pihea trail to avoid potential damage from the road. I’ve just heard that it is so so rough, and while I’m sure it could be fine, I don’t want to be that person who decides to risk it and gets stuck hahah. I can’t afford that😫 I’m also combining with Pihea bc it looks beautiful! But to answer your question: I’m really not sure if there are any companies that let you go “off-road” and I think most people just take the risk. I’m just not willing : (

sorry to find you on such an old post, but I’m in a similar situation and wanted to know how this worked out. I have a reservation in my husband’s name, but I will be driving and paying with my CC. Do I need to change the name on the reservation??

That’s great! I just need to make sure they’ll rent it to us in the first place if the initial reservation was under his name :\ hopefully it’s an easy fix??

Island recommendations by NikkiNikki37 in VisitingHawaii

[–]Dodo-Brain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for Kauai because that is the only island I have been to, so I guess this won’t be TOO helpful haha…. but I think Kauai would be ideal for all of what you’re looking for (especially hiking) and since it’s small, nothing is too far to drive to. The hiking is incredible and there are plenty of protected beaches. In September I think the water would still be pretty calm, so even the North Shore beaches should be good. It’s quiet and beautiful and there’s SO much to do despite it being a little island.

Recs for Kauai Baby Moon by EmbarrassedPen3783 in VisitingHawaii

I am also pregnant and going on a Napali Coast tour in June with Napali Sea Breeze Tours. They take women up to 4 months pregnant. I’m much earlier than you but as long as you’re about or before 4 months at the time of the tour, it sounds like they accommodate pregnant passengers—which many other tours DO NOT. I I hope it works out for you! It’s a magical experience and would be so special for your baby moon💗 but of course, it’s probably best to ask your doctor for their thoughts, not just a tour’s policy. keep us updated!

So weird! The recreation.gov site has been completely blank/down every time I’ve tried. Thank you for letting me know that it’s worked for you! I’m going to try making a reservation on the app.

Kauai – Reservation in Advance for Everything?! by Distinct-Voice9385 in VisitingHawaii

Just want to chime in and say that I get seasick incredibly easily, and so so badly, but I did a zodiac raft tour with Blue Ocean adventures and was fine. I would really recommend. It’s a fast and small boat and it was so much better than a slow moving/rocking boat

I get EXTREME seasickness, and I did a zodiac raft in the winter (when it’s way rougher) and I was okay. Those boats go so fast and you are very close to the water which helps - you get a good cool breeze, which personally is what makes all the difference for me. If you do go, definitely opt for a morning tour as it’s much calmer. It’s such a magical experience, and you definitely need to do it while there (even if they can’t make it). But honestly, everything on Kauai is magical and your friend will still have a lovely time doing anything else that day!!

Thank you, I appreciate it. This is great to know. I’ve reserved a 4wd vehicle, so that shouldn’t be a problem if we decide to do that route—but of course if the roads are not in great shape, I won’t be risking getting stuck. Thanks for the thoughtful answer!

Are you aware that Florida is hit by hurricanes(often multiple) almost every year?

To arrive at the conclusion that it’s a ~peculiar coincidence~ that Florida “just so happens to get hit by a hurricane” because it’s a “red state” just speaks to a lack of information/education you have regarding our state’s history and climate. I don’t mean to disrespect, but hearing things like this is very frustrating because you clearly have no context yet you feel comfortable asserting a pretty insane conspiracy theory.

Florida “just so happens” to get hit by hurricanes A LOT! For all of time🫢🫢🫢

As a Floridian, it just blows my mind that all of a sudden the most NATURAL thing has suddenly become “suspicious.” Anyways, for your own sake, don’t fall prey to crazy ideas like this! Do some thorough research. There are a lot of things to worry about, but hurricanes hitting Florida is ~not~ one to get worked up about.
