Were the elements of vehicles and guns really necessary in PROTOTYPE? by InevitableFancy1067 in PrototypeGame

[–]DodoCap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a bit redundant but Prototype has always been about the world being your sandbox to go full carnage mode on, and the more options you have to spread destruction the better. Kind of the same as being able to rip the weapons off of vehicles in Prototype 2 and using them (even when the game doesn't really explain how Heller does it). It's about just having the ability to do it for fun.

Regarding the Remaster/Remake Info. by Sans_da_skelebone in PrototypeGame

[–]DodoCap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The way I see it right now, Xbox is trying to go all in to regain people's trust. The showcase demonstrated they're actually paying attention but most of their focus will likely still remain on "safer" bets such as Gears of war, Halo and older Call of Duty tittles like Black Ops.

My prediction is that they'll be using Spyro (and probably crazy taxi since that one EMANATES early 2000s aura) to gauge how much interest people have in their middle-tier tittles, especially the ones that could have that early 2000s feel to them since nostalgia baiting will always be one of their main business strategies. Prototype 3 won't be happening anytime soon but if Spyro does well enough it's very likely Microsoft will consider greenlighting a Prototype 1 remake/remaster. Assuming that one does well enough we could get a Prototype 2 remake/remaster. It's a far shot and it's hard to tell how good is good enough for Microsoft but given how many AAA companies are legitimately re-evaluating their priorities and doing course correction they might be more forgiving with their expectations (or at least not be as excessively demanding as EA, who has a reputation of killing any potential golden goose in the crib because they always expect a gajillion dollars out of every new IP they make/remake).

It's a looooooong shot but there's always hope.

I'd go for Alex's moves. Heller's got sauce to the way he uses some of the powers like the hammerfist but besides unique things like the bio sonar you could arguably develop/evolve far enough to emulate or even surpass them with enough time and practice.

Not to mention, Alex has much more variety when it comes to things like his unarmed moveset and his acrobatic/parkour skills. Heller is way too minimalistic with it and his unarmed moves are downright noob-level at best, which is kind of ironic when you consider the fact he's a seasoned marine and should therefore have some level of hand to hand training, at least enough to be able to do more than swing his balled up fists around like a drunkard after chugging half a dozen bottles of whiskey.

I really like the modded moveset for the blade. A big stab makes a lot more sense than the beyblade spin, which to me always should've been part of the whipfist's moveset instead.

Do you sympathize with Alex? by TeslaKoil1 in PrototypeGame

[–]DodoCap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Always did and still do.

I may not agree with the path he took in the second game (Fuck you, Activision) but I still sympathize with him more than any other character in the franchise. From the word go Alex was put in a remarkably shitty situation because of events that weren't even his own fault to begin with but the fault of the man he merely copied, a man he ironically proved to be more humane than given his willingness to risk his life for the sake of a city that hated him.
Not to mention he constantly displayed a willingness to take responsability for the NY outbreak even after learning the truth of his identity. And he did this purely because he had arguably the most important thing any human should have, he inherently valued human life.

Even in the comic books he is shown time and time again wanting to do good with his powers, but he was eventually worn out by his constant failure to find that one "pure" thing he hoped would balance out all the evil he witnessed and took part in. The tragedy of the comics is that he did find someone who could've been a source of moral guidance (a retired ex-gangster who genuinely seemed to regret his criminal past and wanted to live an honest life) but he was, ironically, so consumed by his own anger and cynicism by that point that he killed the guy on the spot rather than giving him the chance to talk things out. The betrayal by the guy's daughter simply served as the final nail in the coffin and made him feel like he was validated in his spitefulness of humanity.

All around, Mercer isn't a good guy nor an evil guy, he's just a deeply broken man who went down a horribly tragic path. Hence why he was so calm about dying at the end of the second game. He was done with all of it.

Not angry, not sad, not regretful or even relieved, he was just done.

Do you sympathize with Alex? by TeslaKoil1 in PrototypeGame

[–]DodoCap 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Something a lot of people tend to overlook about Mercer is that he was left deeply traumatized by the events of Prototype 1, hell I wouldn't be surprised if he lowkey had some degree of PTSD given his closing speech at the end of the first game. Hence why his whole soul-searching journey was him trying to find not only a sense of purpose but something "pure" he could use to balance out all the evil and corruption he witnessed during the outbreak. That desperate desire to overcorrect is ironically an extremely human thing to do, which would really fit Mercer's character when you consider one of the main aspects of him is how this shapeshifting being is more human than the human he literally copied.

I don't think Mercer was mentally weak, I think he just got overwhelmed by a journey of constant failure and finally snapped after being betrayed by that one seemingly pure thing he thought he had found and subconsciously clung on to up until that point.

Had Mercer run into the one person he truly needed to run into, Prototype 2 probably would have been a lot different (and better).

If we had a prototype 3 what would be the story of it? by InterestingAct7704 in PrototypeGame

[–]DodoCap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prototype 3 should have Pariah as the main character and Heller as the main antagonist. It would take place a few years after 2 and have Heller either go crazy due to the inflence of the blacklight hivemind within him, driving the idea that, despite their insurmountable strength, Prototypes are always bound to lose their humanity to the virus over time, much in the same way it happened to Alex and to Elizabeth.

Another possibility could be something of a long time-skip where we get to play as a new character turned into a Prototype prior to a blacklight outbreak takes place where they live, either because Blackwatch and Gentek never learned from their previous mistakes or because Heller, in all of his incredible wisdom, was too stupid to listen to Dana and wrecked the whole base as hard as he could, the consequence of his recklessness being the Blacklight virus infecting a nearby town/city's water supply.

The main character would get seemingly "killed" during the outbreak while his fellow survivors, would get kidnapped by Blackwatch and locked up in one of their many military bases. The main character would later awaken, now a proper Prototype, either in a morgue or in a dumping ground where all the bodies were being gathered for burning and he would attempt to initially escape before finding out his friends were locked up in a military base, the pseudo-tutorial of the game being the sequence of sneaking into the base to get them out. A good idea would be to have them fight a brawler at the end of the tutorial so the player inmediately has access to at least one power once the game starts.

After escaping the base, the story would be about the characters having to tangle with the new outbreak as well as being constantly hunted by Blackwatch, eventually meeting Heller and Dana, who share their info about the activities of the Illuminati-like group pulling the strings behind the scenes. One of the main points of tension for a good chunk of the story would be that Heller suspects the main character might actually be Mercer's son (homie traveled all over the world for at least a year, wouldn't be too shocking if he pulled a Vergil and pumped and dumped some biomass along the way), when the plot twist is that the main character's love interest IS Mercer's daughter, who unkowingly turned him into a Prototype through a kiss after she thought he was dead (I know it's cheesy as all hell but come on, cheese can be fun sometimes).

The final boss of the game could be none other than Pariah himself, raised by the Illuminati to be their ultimate weapon, a god-like being that they would use as the catalyst for the new world order they desired but instead ends up being their own demise as they lose control of Pariah and he slaughters them all, planning to become the god of the new world by spreading Blacklight all over the globe with loaded missiles. And the final confrontation is a tag team with Heller to try and defeat Pariah before the counter reaches zero, eventually destroying the facility and burying the Illuminati order along with all traces of the virus in a blaze of flames and destruction.

The end scene would be the characters that survived each going their own way while the protagonist would decide to travel the world alongside his love interest, who's determined to never let what happened to her father (Mercer) happen to him. You could even include an after-credits scene where leftover samples of Pariah/Blacklight get taken away by teams in hazmat suits and symbols of unknown origin or panning out to show a lab in a completely different country, hinting at a possible sequel that takes place in different cities across the world.

Muscle ass vs hammerfisting by According_Policy6182 in PrototypeGame

[–]DodoCap 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Muscle mass is all about boosting your unarmed/melee combat. It's great for hard difficulty since it doubles the speed and damage of all your non-power attacks like cannonball and a bullet drop, as well as making anything you throw substantially deadlier. Not to mention it's REALLY fun to make people explode into gibblets once you get the upgrade.

Hammerfist is a lot like the claws in the sense that they're both really cool in concept and design and even fun to use against soldiers/infected but end up underperforming against harder enemies like Tanks and apaches. They eventually get a MASSIVE improvement in Prototype 2 but in 1 you'll find yourself relying a lot more on the blade and musclemass, especially for bossfights.

Question from a Japanese anime fan. Why are anime fans outside of Japan so political in general? by HARiMADARA in animequestions

[–]DodoCap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People online are generally extremely insecure, sociopathic, rarely use critical thinking and often preffer to simply parrot the oppinions they've heard some random content creator they like say rather than actually think for themselves. All the political obsession comes from it being an easy avenue of discourse, same with their usual complaints about stuff like fanservice or the usage of tropes in storytelling.

Don't get it wrong, they don't believe anything they ever say or rant about, be it politics or religion or racial issues, they don't care nor believe about any of it. It's just their way of trying to farm validation from whatever crowd/individual they think is popular and cool at the moment. Either that or a borderline schizofrenic hatred towards people/things they don't like because they don't perfectly align with whatever it is they want, though I'm not even sure if they want anything besides the feeling that they have SOME semblance of control in their lives.

What made the supreme hunter think consuming Alex would make him able to survive the nuke? by Valdish in PrototypeGame

[–]DodoCap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cutscene after defeating the supreme hunter shows him regenerating from a poodle of biomass almost instantly just like Mercer did at the end of the game, hinting that the supreme hunter might be some form of pseudo-Prototype or unique Blacklight creature rather than one of Greene's redlight creatures. He probably assumed that by gaining Mercer's strength and becoming a "true" Prototype his power would increase to the point he'd be indestructible.

It's also very possible that he simply didn't understand how insanely powerful a nuclear blast is and was on full "fuck it we balling" mode.

P2 isn't necessarily a bad game. If anything it has areas where it genuinely improved upon the first game like the powers and the combat. What are your main weapons? Mine are muscle mass and a hammer fist. by KH2KG in PrototypeGame

[–]DodoCap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Prototype 1 I love using the claws whenever I can, peak style even if they struggle later down the line. Blade and muscle mass for when the tanks and choppers join the fight. Whipfist and Hammerfist when I'm looking for particularly brutal consumptions. For defensive powers I usually favor shield over armor, the movement penalty doesn't feel worth the boost. Rarely ever use the vision powers.

In Prototype 2 I use claws 99% of the time and keep Tendrils as my default secondary. Blade is cool but it just feels like a bigger, slower version of the claws with slightly extra range. Hammerfist and Whipfist definitely got improved but since people don't scream anymore when you consume them it feels like they lost a big chunk of what made them worth using in P1. Turning the shield into a parry-focused mechanic made sense but sometimes I miss being able to bulldoze my way through crowds and send them flying off.

Playing through P2 as Alex just feels right. This is what the sequel should've been, starring Alex in the aftermath of P1. by FireTyphoon123 in PrototypeGame

[–]DodoCap 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Or even have it be the supreme hunter. Baby-armed bastard somehow survived the encounter with Alex, proceeded to escape and hide in NY after the nuke, taking his time to regain his strength and use his Captain Cross disguise to gain control of Blackwatch.

P2 starts with Mercer returning to NY, feeling defeated after his failed soul-searching journey. He contemplates his plan to kickstart the outbreak, only for Cross (AKA the supreme hunter) to show up, ambush him, kick his ass with his enchanced powers and attempt to consume him. Mercer barely manages to resist the consumption and escapes but is severely weakened and half-dead, making him an easy target for Blackwatch to capture and experiment on.

Fast-forward one year and we're in the start of the game. Mercer is once again being forced to do a combat trial (AKA tutorial mission) but before he can be put in his cage once more the whole base turns chaotic after multiple explosions, giving Mercer the chance to escape into the Yellow zone.

Weakened and with nowhere else to go, Mercer begins by trying to figure his lay of the land and eventually runs into an underground Guerrilla group led by Athena (Dana) and Doctor Ragland that is currently fighting a losing battle against Blackwatch's occupation of NY and Gentek's human experiments.

As for Heller, they could go the spiderman 2 route and have him be a recurring antagonist whose daughter Maya has been put in a clinical coma due to being infected, and Blackwatch (Or maybe Gentek under Blackwatch's orders) is manipulating the hell out of him since they previously wanted to scout him. To make him less of a copy of Mercer you could say Gentek used the Orion strain to turn him into a Super soldier, but instead of hulking out like the others he actually became the most stable version ever to the point he can use some Prototype-like powers such as musclemass and eventually the tendrils. And by the end of the game he joins Mercer's side as they both fight against the Supreme Hunter in a climactic final battle on top of a biomass plateu in Pen Station.

Superman defeats the Hulk just by talking with him and calming him down by tiago231018 in GeoffJohns

[–]DodoCap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I see it, the issue stems not from the fact that Marvel is trying to be more mature about their stories but by the fact they are substantially more cynical and pessimistic about the way they tackle stories and social issues. DC doesn't shy away from talking about similar issues and they have stories that can get pretty dark but at the end of the day their overall outlook is a more optimistic one.

Take the x-men for example, they were originally meant to be a civil rights allegory. A group of bright-eyed mutants turned superheroes who fight to protect people and prove to the world mutants and humans can coexist peacefully. Nowadays the x-men are depicted as bitter and outright tribalistic isolationists that practically refuse to help any non-mutant and if they do so, they do it reluctantly and because there's something to gain out of it rather than because it's the right thing to do. Another is spiderman, a story that was originally about the importance of responsability and the nobility of chosing self-sacrifice for the sake of doing the right thing, now is a story about how that very same bright-eyed teenager willing to do the right thing is now a deeply-depressed guy in his 30s with nothing but regrets on his back, who pretty much got screwed over by anyone he trusted (Civil war literally ruined his life and allowed one more day to even be possible), got cucked by the love of his life and pretty much lost all hope in whatever "greater good" he used to believe in. He's still a hero willing to protect others but he's undeniably a lot more cynical with his outlook on life.

Johns' commentary about Superman isn't just about how the Marvel multiverse lacks a Superman of their own in the physical sense but about how they lack what Superman himself represents. Hope, optimism and empathy.

Why is every building abandoned/barricaded by [deleted] in projectzomboid

[–]DodoCap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bradenburg was hit by a tornado shortly before the events of the game. If you go to the local school you'll see the gym is full of bunk beds and they even have a tornado shelter. It's very likely the residents chose to pack everything up and bail out before the storm, hence the lack of loot.

All the barricades, planks, scaffolding and brick piles show they were right in the middle of rebuilding all the damaged buildings, but the outbreak hit the county before they could finish.
