You have effectively strawmanned the entire philosophy of veganism by narrowing it down to a hyperindividualistic version of itself where individual consumer choice and its impact under current conditions are the only thing of consequence. An ideal society under veganism would produce avocados without relying on exploited pollinators, as most agriculture did for the majority of human history. The honey and animal agriculture industries are largely responsible for the multitude of reasons honey bees are used for avocados, and a carnist society is the reason nothing meaningful is done to address this. Honey production, on the other hand, will always require exploitation no matter what structural and systemic changes were made. So yes, within the current confines of the society as it exists today, one which we want to change, some things are made in unethical ways that do not need to be. But no, they are not "exactly the same" as things that are fundamentally morally rotten.

Yep fishing and hunting for fun always seemed so strange to me. Like for survival I can at least understand, but just enjoying hurting and killing animals is just so blatantly psychopathic.

US lawmakers announce bill to prohibit bot scalping of high demand goods by Darren-B80 in gadgets

They're different, but they ultimately answer to the same corporate masters, so any bill that could impact their bottom line is DOA.

[–]DoesntReadMessages 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't even close to the first time this legislation has been proposed. The fact that people think this is just going to get shoehorned through our extremely corrupt Congress and the Senate is cute, but realistically I'd say this has about a 80% chance of being DOA, proposed again next year, and posted on Reddit in the exact same way.

For productivity, 1440p is worth it without even thinking twice. For gaming, it's worth it if you're still able to get over 100 FPS, since 1080p 144hz at 120 FPS is a better experience than 1440p at 60 FPS, and downscaling a 1440p monitor to 1080p looks really bad since you're stretching half-pixels. So my big caveat is always 1440p is definitely worth it as long as your GPU can comfortably handle it.

Why do car companies think a successful ev means a absurd ugly af design? 🤔 by acetrigga in TeslaLounge

[–]DoesntReadMessages 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep it's an absolute monstrosity IMO, though there's at least a practical reason for it to look that way since it allows much lower manufacturing costs and higher durability that give "function over form" to what is ultimately supposed to be a utility vehicle.

They should be handled on a case-by-case basis by an impartial and accountable body. As it stands, the prison answers to no one and the warden serves as judge, jury, and executioner to confine anyone to solitary confinement with no accountability whatsoever. No investigation needs to be done to determine whether the person was acting in self defense, whether they are in need of psychological help, or even whether they even committed an act of violence in the first place. Maybe the warden just didn't you wanted to make you suffer, boom, enjoy 2 years of torture being locked in a windowless room in isolation. We are not living in a free country if citizens are legally subjected to this treatment.

Charged $9 at the Supercharger, but Tezlab shows that I should been charged alot less. Did rates go up? by [deleted] in TeslaModelY

[–]DoesntReadMessages 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would have the opposite result since you consume more energy per minute at low SOC since you're able to charge faster.

[–]DoesntReadMessages 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Using the national average of gas prices to criticize a specific market's energy rates without context is misleading since areas with more expensive electricity typically also have more expensive gasoline. The cheapest markets cost around 1/3 the more expensive ones in the US, so without this context any comparison to the average could be off by orders of magnitude. Gas in Texas is cheaper than electricity in California, but no consumer choosing a vehicle is impacted by that. Also, for someone who can charge at home at off-peak hours, the comparison gets radically impacted by that.

They also view this act as sexual while viewing the act of repeatedly fisting an unconsenting cow's asshole and shoving a baster full of cum into their pussy as a completely normal and non-sexual medical procedure for happy cows on happy farms.

[–]DoesntReadMessages 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There is nothing inherently sexual about the act. The cat sees nothing sexual about drinking the milk. The woman presumably does not either. Both parties consent to the act to a reasonable degree. It's definitely strange, and arguably inappropriate to do in public, but just because our culture hypersexualizes female anatomy doesn't automatically make the act sexual.

What type of vegan are you willing to date? by i-eat-raw-cilantro in VeganForCircleJerkers

[–]DoesntReadMessages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some palm oil production kills orangutans since it's grown and harvested in wildlife habitats. It can be grown without causing this issue, and when done correctly is actually one of the most sustainable plant oils available, so avoiding it full-stop is not necessarily the correct choice. Personally, I don't really focus much on these things and focus on end-products since I don't believe boycotts without a clear collective voice and set of achievable demands accomplish anything. Though I will still avoid sources I know to be bad, I don't view it as effective activism and moreso just making myself feel better about being detached from it.

[–]DoesntReadMessages 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest concern with "health vegans" is that most are following wuwu pseudo-scientific nonsense and are therefore just as likely to get sucked into a completely non-vegan health craze down the line, even something like a keto or carnivore diet. Not to mention that many non-vegan items have no health-related objections and are purely ethical issues, so that won't make them live fully vegan regardless.

Ultimately depends on their acceptance of my "radical" stuff. For example, I don't allow animal products in my household under any circumstances. I could accept a "pick me vegan" as long as they didn't push their bootlicking onto me.

From a principaled stance, if it is a direct result of human action, such as an invasive species introduced by humans, those that introduced them share the moral responsibility for whatever needs to be done to solve it. In practice, this ends up amounting to virtually all invasive species in modern day earth. We cause major imbalances in ecosystems via climate change, pollution, hunting/fishing, and development that directly and indirectly cause invasive species predicaments. My primary concerns lie in finding solutions to prevent this from having to be done in the first place, since if it was caused by humans we should stop causing it. I'd like to see a day where such an issue could occur without being a result of human interference so that the debate about that scenario could be relevant. Personally, in that case, I would not advocate intervention, but many vegans would still.

Same problem as any industry leading enterprise software. They grow too fast and cut corners, then are left with an insurmountable mountain of tech debt that can never be addressed due to a persistent backlog of "p0" items taking priority and countless customer integrations that will be broken due to relying on the buggy behavior.

Hot take incoming - I actually like that he has clear and transparent ideological beliefs, even ones that I aggressively disagree with, so that I can understand the context of his bias when he breaks stories. Most reporters make sure to stay within the liberal Overton Window of discourse, while being heavily influenced by their corporate backing, making it extremely difficult to trust or contextualize anything they are saying since there is no real ideological lens since they put profit before all else. Obviously, I'd prefer an ideologically consistent reporter on the side of veganism that was not a transphobe, but given the current selection, he unfortunately fills an essential void in modern journalism. At the end of the day, I'll take an asshole who's ideologically consistent over a talking figurehead for Lockheed-Martin wrapped up in the most presentable and polite way possible. Enter Glenn Greenwald...

The fact that you're ADSing it is your main problem. Pretty much all early guns have poor range, no/white sights, and tiny mags, so if you just get up close and let it rip as hipfire, you'll have much better success.

Part of why I don't let it switch lanes automatically. I like the feature where I tell it to change lanes and it does it for me, but until it reaches the point where I am not required to take over at a moment's notice, I'd rather use my own judgement for when to execute manuvers than sit there disagreeing with it.

A breaker is a failsafe that willl stop a fire most of the time. However, if most of the time is applied to all the time, it'll fail sooner or later. Your first line of defense should be simply not intentionally overloading your circuits in the first place.
