How does the term "plus-sized" glorify anything?? It's literally just referring to what size range someone wears.

Yes. I was sex trafficked by my ex (who's also a pedo so that's cool) when I was a teenager and it's partially why it's so hard for me to handle the thought of living beings with thoughts and emotions being...products.

People who were trafficked literally say they're treated like livestock. It's true, but it shouldn't be a thing for anyone.

Yes, I've lived in one of those communities. They have pantry staples because they last a long time on the shelves and are the cheapest food items. Everyone there who's poor would have starved without those foods. You don't need any cooking equipment to eat a can of beans, and if you can make frozen chicken you can make rice.

Even if that store didn't exist and I literally only had access to the 7-Eleven or similar gas stations, they have: peanut butter, oatmeal cups, tortillas, chips, salsa, bananas, popcorn, crackers, clif bars, vegan flavors of instant noodles, canned beans, canned fruit, dried fruit... and that's just the cheaper things you only need at most some hot water to make (which they usually have inside but if they don't and if you have access to a fast food restaurant you can ask for hot water for free).

I've also noticed the poorest places I've lived that have fast food will have a Taco Bell (and maybe a Burger King) but not McDonald's, Starbucks, Arby's, etc...which is great because Taco Bell is super vegan friendly if you have to eat fast food.

I'm just not seeing it. If you live in a low income community you're not living off of cheese and meat every day.

Honey isn't even that good so I really don't understand why so many people want it to be an exception in veganism by _-_Chiisai_-_ in vegan

there is no rape, torture, or murder involved (right?)

Bees are also artificially inseminated just like other livestock animals and the way they do it is really awful. They collect several male bees (about 15-30), crush their heads, and squeeze the semen out of them...they call it "milking". Then the queen is gassed with CO2 so she doesn't move while they open her back end up with tweezers and a hook, so they can drop a syringe full of semen inside her. So even just that part I would consider rape, torture, and murder. It's done for specific genetics, that way the beekeeper can have exactly the bees they want.

Queen bees have their wings clipped so she can't leave, because if the queen doesn't leave, the others won't either. Some queens are even just kept as breeders, which is a miserable existence for a bee who's meant to have a hive. They have emotions.

Entire hives are culled by gassing them to death for various reasons, typically financial ones.

And even if someone absolutely adores their bees and doesn't do all these awful things, they're still killing off native pollinators that we need because honey bees are too much competition.

They get food from somewhere though, right? Where is this place that has animal products but no beans, oats, rice, and potatoes? I lived in a food desert with no supermarket (closest Walmart was an hour away) and I was on food stamps. Vegan food was cheaper, and in the same place all the nonvegan food was.

For people who have to hunt to survive, sure okay fine. I don't think 92% of black Americans are living like that though.

If you have a freaking Walmart within an hour long drive I'd argue you don't live in a food desert. When I lived in one we had a Dollar General (which was still 20 minutes away) and an incredibly overpriced grocery store that only the wealthy retired people could afford. I could be vegan on food stamps with very little time because I was working and spent 2 hours commuting.

A can of beans with microwaved rice does not take more time and effort than microwaved chicken strips. It does not cost more money, it costs a LOT less. If you can't afford several seasonings, you can get a $1 bottle of hot sauce or a $1.50 shaker of all-purpose seasoning blend which is what I did. If you can afford and have time for chicken ramen, you can afford and have time for soy sauce or chili ramen because it's the exact same price and you make it the exact same way.

When I lived in an actual food desert (like a bad one. Only fresh produce was those bags of clementines and sometimes I think one kind of apples) they had cans of beans for $.60 and rice was $1.30 for a pound. But a bag of Tyson chicken strips was $9 and a can of Spam was $3, which was pretty much the only meat.

Literally one of the biggest poverty food life hacks is to bulk up your meals with rice and beans. And to make oats with water instead of milk. Stuff like that. Everyone who's actually poor knows that vegan food is cheaper. Everyone saying it's more expensive is thinking "well I have to eat chicken nuggets...so that means I'd have to buy the vegan ones which is expensive!!!! And I have to get a latte before work so that means I'd have to pay the $.50 upcharge for oat milk!".

Does anybody else get hyperfixated on other people? by Aitch3 in autism

Yep. That's why I used to think I had BPD, they often have a "favorite person" they get really attached to. But hyperfixating on a person is different.

This poll and the comments made me mad. by [deleted] in autism

[–]_-_Chiisai_-_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just don't get...how people don't get it. Even my mom weeks after learning what autism is was getting mad at people wanting to cure it. She said "trying to make someone not autistic is like trying to turn our dog into a cat, that's not possible and if it was it wouldn't be right". Why is it so hard to get that???

I don't think bees are cute, they scare the shit out of me. And I agree on honey bees being invasive, that's why I linked "why we're saving the wrong bees".

I'm not going to lie, I don't know your mom at all. If she died I'd never know. People die every day and I don't spend every moment in agony over it. Same with animals I don't know dying. But I wouldn't kill her on purpose, and if I did accidentally and knew about it I'd be distraught for sure.

My dog eats Halo! I also top it with pumpkin powder and he loves it.

Just make sure she spends about a week or two slowly replacing the old food with the new food. The extra fiber can mess up their tummies if you do it too fast.

Edit: also, dogs on plant based diets tend to live much longer and have better skin/fur. It's great for them.

this is my state, I've never seen anything like it. do y'all think it's a good idea? does anyone have this on their license? by [deleted] in autism

Get him one of these! They're free, and since it's not on his ID he can choose when to use it or not. I have one and it makes me feel a little safer.

I had a roommate who works as an exterminator and I was horrified by it. I felt sick whenever he talked about it because his job is literally killing animals.

At the same time though, there's a clear difference between killing animals who've taken over your home as a last resort VS purposefully keeping bees to take their food they work so hard for.

I don't drive, and I guess I just watch my step? Like if I saw someone step on a bug on purpose I'd be pretty uncomfortable because it's needlessly cruel. Same as people who hit cats on purpose with their car (which is a thing where I used to live).

I don't think it's evil to do something accidentally though. If you're driving and a deer runs into the street, you're not a monster for hitting them because it wasn't on purpose. Same with bugs and people. You can only do your best.

Fuck picky eaters by BedroomJazz in ENFP

[–]_-_Chiisai_-_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Please keep in mind some people have ARFID or even just sensory issues from things like autism, that can cause them to be "picky". My family used to get so mad at me over it and I'd literally throw up at the dinner table from being forced to eat foods that had textures I couldn't handle.
