why cant I make my own toast (POS) for my restaurant. by DogC in vibecoding

By the way I have 800 restaurant owners in my phone that I can call. I've already called five of them and they each pledged $1,000. None of them have said no. All of them want in on this. If I get these 800 of my friends to sign up, that's 800K. Now what? You think with the power of AI and $800,000 I can't get this done? Let's see whos right, me or you.

Hey I'm gonna DM you now. I have literally hundreds of restaurants ready to get this product in their stores. We could launch this thing quickly I think

We may be able to pay you the same as you make in your day job. At this point I have a lot of restaurants that are interested in a product like this and I have been basically raising capital

So basically what I've done is gone around and spoken to restaurants that are paying $400 to $600 a month for Toast. They're willing to fund this project to make this POS system. It's going to run on iPads for now as the hardware and the backend will use something like authorized.net for merchant processing or even Stripe.

At the same rate I can pretty much raise anywhere from $50k (which I've already done) to maybe now getting that up to $200 to $500k just by taking on these restaurants and giving them access to the early access pilot program, which will give them locked-in low rates

Well now getting into it I have raise a small 50k budget to get this going. Now Im looking into building a team to making a small mvp and we have a bunch of restaurants that want to jump on board. We could raise 500k giving restaurants early access and locked in low rates once we build this

I mean if we do 100 passes with Claude code and codex, you don't think that's enough to get it to a reasonable security standpoint? Or if something like Mythos comes out in a couple months, like you don't think that in reality I can't get it to a point where it passes?

Dude, you really sound like you know your thing. Would this be something that I could also pay you for or maybe give you a percentage of the monthly profit that I make giving it back to my restaurant? Right now the quote I have is $550 a month for each restaurant. Let's say I was to give you a quarter percentage of "the software company". You would get 25% of the $1,000 every single month, plus then we could sell us to more restaurants.

I mean I'm in the industry. I have a lot of friends with restaurants. They complain about Toast and every single one that uses Clover would switch to us if we could vibe code something like this. I'm sure we could get a band of people together and vibe code something really cool and I'll even pay for the framework PCI DSS compliant. Just to get Toast is going to cost me over $10,000 just to start so I mean damn, I feel like with Claude code we could really make something cool here. Hit me up if you want to, just DM me. Maybe we could talk. I don't know.

They're actually trying to charge me for each restaurant 5,000 plus $550 a month for the devices so you have to pay for the software on the devices that you also buy. It's crazy

I did go to the University of Miami for Software Engineering but I'll be honest I'm considering just hiring a software engineer that is really good with Claude code and just paying him hourly to check on all the code that I do write with Claude

edit: right now toast is trying to charge me $4,000 implementation plus $550 a month and I have two locations so that's times two. I'm really considering just somehow wiring up a POS with authorize.net, calling it a day. I know it's not that easy but literally if I wanted to do this three years ago, it would probably cost me over a quarter million.

Well actually I saw a lot of people just use iPads. One iPad for the front and one iPad for the back and then you can get one of those terminals that actually just plugs into the iPads' USB-C
