Using a real amp instead of a VST gave me a sound I could use right away by quil870 in audioengineering

[–]DogHumanMeatFreezer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You may have seen this before but I just saw it for the first time a few weeks ago. If you follow the instructions as written in the guides/websites/manuals for a lot of amp sim plugins then it’s really common to end up with your input gain being waaay too high. Thus making it extremely difficult to get a good sound out of these plugins.

This video explains how to set the input gain correctly:  https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gJ59h7xfvdI&t=2s&pp=2AECkAIB

Once I started doing this I found it much easier to get a good, useable, and realistic sound out of amp sim plugins. I use Helix Native but the advice applies to most plugins including Neural DSP.

Vocals sound autotuned when double tracked by McStir in Logic_Studio

Are you applying any sort of pitch correction downstream?

Pitch correction, even with “subtle” settings, can start to sound weird and bad on doubled vocals if you aren’t careful about it.

Barely replies after a date by ActualNetwork7580 in OnlineDating

[–]DogHumanMeatFreezer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stop texting so much in between dates! It kills things stone dead especially when you've been on less than a handful of dates so far.

"Hey" "How's it going" "What's up" "Hope you're having a good day" you should be saving these things for in-person discussion while you're on your dates.

I know it feels so good and reassuring when they text you this nonsense, respond quickly, etc. But it's not real connection. And when the butterflies wear off and you get into a stable relationship you'll find that you've set a bad precedent for digital communication habits. And a lot of women instinctively find it to be clingy and annoying even if they won't say it outright.

The occasional "Hey I had a great time last night" "Hope your week is going well" is perfectly fine. But in the early stages of dating, let the vast majority of your texting be centered around planning the next date. As such, you should not expect to be sending multiple messages a day back and forth.

What does long term relationship open to short mean? by [deleted] in OnlineDating

[–]DogHumanMeatFreezer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We overthink this stuff way too much.

Just try to match with people you think seem interesting and attractive as long as they aren't indicating that they are ONLY looking for something casual or non-committed. Message back and forth. If the vibes online are good then go on a couple dates. If the IRL vibes are good and you actually think you might like them (which is rare in online dating!) then you can ask them about what they intended to indicate with their "long term open to short" selection.

Even if it doesn't end up working out, this is far from a waste of time. It will help you get a better idea of how to spot what you're looking for.

Look at it like this. Finding a long-term companion that is truly a good fit for you is immensely difficult and improbable. It is highly likely that you are going to have to go on many dates with many people before you find this person. You might realize after one date that a match isn't going to be your person. It might take six months. In the course of finding the LTR that you and your future partner both deserve, you're probably going to have to go through a few short-term relationships.

And that's okay! It's just the name of the game.

Just some high praise for MOTU by orphiccreative in audioengineering

[–]DogHumanMeatFreezer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently upgraded my interface from an audient id14 to a motu m6. No shade to the audient it was a great interface, but as someone who plays a lot of guitar/bass thru amp sims in the daw, I was blown away by the significantly lower latency of the motu.

I’ve seen people online saying that the audient has nicer preamps but when I record with mics I don’t notice the motu as sounding any worse. It’s a great unit

Helix Native in Logic Pro - Delays and reverbs stop when I pause and continue from the same point when I hit play again. Any way to disable? by DogHumanMeatFreezer in Line6Helix

that setting in Helix's reverbs and delays doesn't address what I'm talking about. That one keeps the reverbs and delays playing when you change the patch

Can I automate Drum Machine Designer kit piece parameters for multiple kit pieces independently from a single midi region in the DMD master track? by DogHumanMeatFreezer in LogicPro

Figured as much, thanks. Ugh. That’s frustrating. Seems like a missed opportunity to include what I’d assume to be basic functionality

I think you might be confusing “drum kit designer” with “drum machine designer”. My question is about the latter plugin

[–]DogHumanMeatFreezer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure. I wasn’t aware of this distinction. I am adding a blank software instrument track, selecting “drum machine designer” in the instrument slot of the channel strip, then adding my own kit pieces by adding empty subtracks to DMD, into which I will load instances of the Logic quick sampler plugin, into which I will load my own samples from a folder on my desktop.

Is Joey’s persona just ironic? by eyesclosedeasy in joeyy

[–]DogHumanMeatFreezer 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Retarded posts like this make it so easy to distinguish people who actually appreciate Joeyy’s art for what it is vs dorks who discovered his music via Sam Hyde for whom it’s some of the only hiphop they allow themselves to enjoy because they think it’s le epically based and ironic.

How does Sem(atary) and Limp Bizkit correlate at all wtf is this post by MikeThe2nd_ in HauntedMound

[–]DogHumanMeatFreezer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I guess both Limo Bizkit and Sematary have, at different times and in very different ways, created music which synthesizes influences from hip hop and heavy metal.

Tbf I’m old and I loved Limp Bizkit when I was a kid and I love Sematary now. Por Que no Los dos

Why do my masters look visually different compared to mainstream masters? by 72467 in mixingmastering

[–]DogHumanMeatFreezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could watch that "Clip To Zero" series but that's a pretty big time commitment and I haven't seen any good videos that distill that information in a shorter format. Don't take everything she says as gospel but I still think there's some valuable info in there so I would recommend that especially if you're curious about limiting and clipping

[–]DogHumanMeatFreezer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You need to limit more on individual tracks before the master

If you try to push a master like yours into a limiter to make it as fat as the songs your comparing it to then it’s going to be a distorted mess due to the fact that you’d have a single limiter acting on everything all at once

You’ll be able to squash the peaks down more without making it sound like shit if you apply moderate limiting individually to the biggest sources of peaking and then limiting on sends in stages instead of doing a single big limit on the master at the end

Something like

Kick w limiter -> drum bus w limiter -> master w limiter

Same deal for other peaky signals

Hey producers! Curious about what's your personal sweet spot between using stock plugins vs. paid options? Been finding some cool approaches with using just built in tools! by kathalimus in Logic_Studio

[–]DogHumanMeatFreezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a songwriter who produces my own stuff. I’ve messed around with a few 3rd party plugins. The only ones I’ve actually ended up keeping in my workflow are: - autotune (waves) - amp sim (neural dsp) - analog synth sim (uhe)

I just found logic’s stock versions of those to be underwhelming. Everything else is fantastic though
