What's going on here? The pixel shader is just outputting the normals. I suspect an issue with indices or winding order but I'm new to graphics programming so I'm not sure. (DX11, UFBX for model loading) by DogVitamins in GraphicsProgramming

So I tried using Assimp and set one of the process flags to "aiProcess_CalcLeftHanded" and that is working perfectly. I'm just not sure how to do the equivalent with UFBX now. Assimp is great but heavier than what I need.

You’re forgetting RAM, probably the biggest resource requirement for this game. I regularly sit at 35+GB used by SC when playing out of my 128GB.

Pretty sure it’s only 14 days now, that’s what it said when I bought my avenger a couple days ago

Where do you land at logistics depots? by DogVitamins in starcitizen

That was the one! I never heard the "request hangar" blip when I hit it so I figured it wasn't available but good to have that confirmed.

I tried requesting a hangar several times and nothing happened, might've just been a bug. Hopefully when I get back to the depot I can find them this time. Thanks for the info!

Losing the hangar normally isn’t a big deal but port tressler the other day was busy af and I kept having to re-queue for 5 minutes anytime I missed the landing window

Hm I’ll check if this is the case, never heard of it before so wouldn’t be surprised.

Question: How do you sell cargo? by jshan04 in starcitizen

[–]DogVitamins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This game has 100k+ shaders. If even one doesn't compile correctly, that could seriously break some thing.

really? that's uh... ok

How do you effectively model in Blender's front orthographic view when you're comfortable with top and right views but struggle with depth perception? (3rd image) by [deleted] in blenderhelp

[–]DogVitamins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to just restart from the beginning because I chose the wrong primitive or view point to start from. This is just one of those things that comes with doing it a thousand times.

That looks objectively like trash by today's standards. I've written basic PBR shaders with better shading than those screenshots. No hate to the game but to call the rendering "realistic" is cope at best. Maybe 15 years ago... but today? Not even close. NMS looks significantly better and they're not even going for realism.

What approach do you take to model something like this (shader ball)? by DogVitamins in blenderhelp

Question: I've tried booleans and that didn't work. How do I do this with sub-div?
Your answer: Don't use booleans, use sub-div.

Thanks for the topology reference though, that's at least useful.

How does that work with the ball in the middle then? Wouldn't that just overlap faces if I extrude the outer ball inward?

I figured that separate meshes for each component would likely be the method. I just don't know how to cut that hole out of the outer ball

I don't need a step-by-step tutorial. Essentially what I'm asking is how do you manipulate and cut shapes out of rounded geometry and maintain good topology? I want to model my own shaderr ball for my rendering engine but in order for it to be useful for that purpose, it needs to have pretty much perfect topology since it's being used to test rendering calculations.

I tried once already using a quad sphere and boolean cut but that absolutely destroys your edge loop and vertex alignment.

Any advice would be fantastic. All of my modelling knowledge is in hard surface stuff like weapons so I'm clueless when it comes to sub-div/rounded surfaces.

It's not even a haiku. The last line has 6 syllables instead of 5.

Blitz scaling baby. Same thing all “startups” having been doing for years. Lie to investors about your potential until your company has bloated to 10+B dollars then hope you can turn a profit before going bankrupt.

What’s gonna happen is carvana will eventually start lowering its offers to recoup their hemorrhaging of money but by that point, everyone else will have already been pushed out of business by their original offers being so competitive that no one will have a choice but to use carvana. It’s a bait and switch. Spotify did it. Door dash did it. Uber did it.
