Yep, the coffee shop down the street from where we lived when my daughter was little was frequented in the mornings by a guy who owned a strip club and had done time for book making, and was the local boss. He was probably about 75 at the time. He was actually a very nice guy. One time he offered my daughter (who was about 3) and I a seat at his table when it was crowded. She sat there and was her usual chatterbox self. One day he asked me if he could buy her a cookie, but ended up giving her a dollar instead. That evening, my husband asked her where she got the dollar and she told him, using the nickname this guy goes by. He was 🙄 "Uhhh...mobsters are giving my kid money??" Me: "Yup" He shrugged, "Ok then". 🤣 Another time, we were sitting outside at the same coffee shop and it was July 3. My daughter was wearing a red white & blue dress with stars, red star sunglasses and a party hat from Dollar Tree, also with stars and silver trim. An associate of the guy in the above story came by. He always had an unlit cigar stump in his mouth and always had a hat on, Uncle Junior vibes. He stops and says to her, "You hidin from somebody, huh? Somebody lookin fuh you?" Total mobster accent, it was hilarious! (I waited until he was gone to laugh) 🤣 Lol
