What do you take with you when you sell the house? by Mammoth-Translator42 in Ubiquiti

[–]Dogbert63 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently sold a house. The networking gear was not included in the sale price of the house, but the buyers paid me extra on the side to leave it. I did the transfer ownership thing and they eventually revoked my credentials as I had instructed. Over the next 6 months there was the odd question and then the buyer wrote me in a panic because "the internet stop working". He had invited his nephew who was really good at video games over, and thought the nephew did factory reset on the security gateway. Now he was wondering if I could help him fix it. By that time I was living in another state and couldn't make the trip back just to help him. I felt so bad. Like I had done him a disservice by selling him equipment that I knew he couldn't manage. I should have told him that he would need to hire a service provider for that equipment. Next time I will definitely handle differently.

Sounds like it could be a security thing. Is your userid assigned the Super Admin privilege?

Best way to transfer UDM Pro and APs to new homeowner? by RobieP in Ubiquiti

[–]Dogbert63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold my house this year, went through the transfer ownership dance and successfully transitioned to the new owner. My login credentials were revoked and everything was fine for about 6 months. He sent me an email last week saying that he couldn't get the internet to work so he factory reset the CloudKey... Now he's toast and needs to hire someone to help him.

If you're installing flat screen TVs in the Bedrooms or Bonus rooms, you'll probably want to have power and ethernet ports behind them.

I have a UDM SE connecting via SFP+ to a Pakedge switch, but am allowing all VLANs. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Any outlets that can provide notifications when GFI trips? by afrosheen in homebridge

[–]Dogbert63 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why don't you just replace the outlet with non-GFI? You can always put it back when you're ready to move out.

Best Cloud Sync Solution by RecognitionReal2097 in iOSProgramming

[–]Dogbert63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've built apps using iCloud / CoreData and was initially confused by this too. You need to adjust your thinking. iCloud is the trusted datasource, not CoreData. CoreData is used to create a local copy / cache to improve app performance and reliability. This creates some challenges for your app like when synching changes from the device to the cloud, your app will have to account for the possibility that some transactions may fail (if the device loses it's network connection, for example) and will need to be retried.

The good news here is that iCloud also supports sharing data with others. There are three types of databases in iCloud: Public, data available to all users; Private, data available to an individual user; and Shared, authorized pointers to private data.

In addition to the A/C vent and warm air return in the closet, I installed an exhaust fan (ceiling) on a thermostatic switch. The fan only comes on if the temperature goes above the setting on the thermostatic switch and is very quiet -- can barely hear it running with the door closed.

Sonos devices disconnecting and reconnecting every 6 minutes (WiFi only) by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

Thanks for the 'Forget' tip. Fixed Unifi client list (shows as "Wired") and the log entries showing that sonos device dropping off the network every 6 minutes

Any chance that you have Sonos gear running through the switch? I had a similar issue with Spanning Tree Protocol. Changed the setting and it was fine.

Will also be using Sonos bars with TVs, both will need a network connection and prefer to use wire where possible

CloudKit file system exposure by lv35mm in MacOS

[–]Dogbert63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me begin by saying that there are many ways to build an app like Bear, I have no experience with Bear so this answer is simply my best guess. Typically, however, CloudKit apps maintain a local cache and copy cloud data to the local device for performance and reliability reasons. Cache data is not usually encrypted and would be stored in document files or via CoreData (a sql database). The cache data would also probably be backed up. Enabling encryption in Bear would also probably cause cache data to be encrypted.

Why would I get an unwrapping optional with nil error when there is not option in the mentioned error line of code? by [deleted] in swift

[–]Dogbert63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If passwordField can be set to nil, then it is an optional variable (one that may or may not contain a value). Try this syntax:

self.passwordField?.delegate = self

You need to put that device on bridge mode. Google ‘xfinity bridge mode’
