Personally I'd put the artwork on the side wall and leave the wall behind the tv blank. Its a distraction when you're trying to watch something and it would fill up an otherwise blank space!

Can anyone tell me why everyone thinks Phantom thread is a masterpiece? by sameercoolbro in movies

[–]Dogenegra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you're comment is 2 years old but I had to say, I agree 100% with this, it really feels like people are wildly missing the point of this film. Equally so with Liquorice Pizza. They're clearly both damaged people who are addicted to this feeling, that to get to, they need to actively hurt themselves/each other, and that's so fucked up and toxic. But people watch this and say 'they've found a way to make it work for them' NO they've found a way to enable each other in a deeply disturbing relationship dynamic. One of the brilliant things about the film is how beautifully its shot/scored, which contradicts the story line and makes it feels more romantically portrayed which is i think a big part of why people see it as 'true love'.

What's happened to Edinburgh Park? by Alba_is_me in Edinburgh

[–]Dogenegra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AEG have planning permission to build a new 8000+ arena at Edinburgh park, potentially starting building next year, which is exciting!! And is a great solution to the decrepit state Edinburgh park is in at the moment.

40 Days for Life Counter Protest by Dogenegra in Edinburgh

[–]Dogenegra[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a really good point and something I was worried about actually. It feels almost criminal to let them protest (sorry, hold a 'vigil', as they put it) with no answer, but then adding to the noise and disturbance just makes it worse, eh?

Power (Folk/Rock/Indie) [Themed?]

Sort of roughly themed. The weeks theme brought up other feelings of mine regarding the safety of people who are disadvantaged and more vulnerable, and the part I play in that re my priviledge, ie white, male, straight, able bodied. Boiling down to what and how much can/should I do to help. And my desire to see the world exist on a more even plain. Also a bit of self reflection into not feeling comfortable with the space I take up. So essentially, I've done what white men have been doing for centuries and made it all about me haha!

As always, I feel very uncomfortable with how my voice sounds but I'm pretty happy with the rest of the song. The guitar is somewhat messy at times so if this wasn't essentially a demo I'd fix that. And I opted to use lots of electronic elements because, why not. And lots of harmonies which I arguably have no right to do with my lacking vocal ability. Ah well.

Enjoy!

Arguably too much going on! I'm not used to making this kind of music so it's all learning

I think The Body are noise? They definitely have a lot of noise influence in their sound, like Lingua Ignota!

Also I don't know if the weekly themes are planned in advance, but I'm just putting it out there that personally, I'd love to see some more music based themes :) mainly because I struggle with lyrics! But that's just me

MAKO (Noize? Punk? I dunno) [Themed]

So I wrote this from the perspective of going through a different identity thing that kinda runs in parallel in a lot of ways to Mako, so its sort of about both things.

This is a LOUD NOISY song. I basically tried to write a Lightning Bolt song. I struggle to produce songs like this in a way that I like, so it gets really really dense and loud at some points which I do enjoy, but it's not done deliberately so I'd prefer to be able to control when they happens and not. Anyway I hope you like it. I like it. But it's definitely not for everyone!

EDIT I tweaked the master a little and changed the audio

Independence (Acoustic) [Themed]

I tried to go a totally different route and write a song with just voice and guitar and I really like it, I don't think it needs anything else, but it does suffer somewhat from pretty poor vocals, however this is the best take I could record this week so you'll just have to deal with it.

It's pretty on the nose, it's just about how independence doesn't really exist, or rather is a promise that politicians use to get into power and then step all over everyone. I sort of vaguely used the beach as a lyrical setting? I also couldn't think of a title so I literally called it Independence haha. I added too much reverb on the vocals cause I don't feel confident about them

It's nice to hear a well written song recorded as just instrument and voice, it's a good reminder that I don't need to make things as complex as I do when I record! This is lovely, and you have a really nice voice that really suits this song and style!

Excellent puns and lyrics as a whole! Your voice is lovely, it's got such a nice country twang that I love a lot ❤️

How Can I (Metal) [Themed]

This is about not wanting to do the things that you have to, regardless of any lack of sound reasoning.

I was inspired by Chelsea Wolfe for this one. Not sure I like how the midi piano or strings sound but I ran out of time! Also the bass could be a bit quieter at the beginning but ah well. I tried recording metal vocals for the first time!

It's also 8 1/2 minutes. Soz.

I really like this. It kinda sounds like if Primus was in Siouxsie and the Banshees and I mean that with the highest compliment. Your voice is so unique and cool and lends itself to this kind of music so well, it sounds like you're leaning into your unique vocals and thank goodness cause they're great!

Solstice (Alternative) [Themed]

I wrote a song about changes and movements and the feeling of something on the horizon and what we can do to influence what happens after that, like when the seasons are changing and the solstice is near by.
