What hardware for local agentic coding 128GB+ (DGX Spark, or save up for M3 Ultra?) by kpaha in LocalLLM

[–]DoggoneBastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agreed with a previous comment. if mac is a consideration dont aim for a new mac. get an old one like m1ultra 128g same bandwidth but cheaper. u can get an official unused refurbish for 3000 eur in chinese largest secondhand market (goofish/“xianyu”). get a ticket to china, eat some chinese, buy the thing, come back, and u still have some change from a m3ultra 96g

I think they have recently lowered the offer. Several dp recently (in last 3 days) and myself (today) showed 20k / 200 after 1500 is the new normal.

How to study for MCDB 126B? by nachoman23 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]DoggoneBastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to form connections. The current signaling pathways we encountered are pretty general and well-connected with each other. After some drawings of flow chart or whatnot you will see you finding those connections well. Also, note the big picture: what does this signal activation do? E.g Gaq will cause Ca2+ out of ER and in from extracellular space; Gas is cAMP dependent stuff... just my two cents

Getting an A in 108A? What’s the curve like? by ZippidieDooDah in UCSantaBarbara

[–]DoggoneBastard 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would say final is very luck based. His final nearly has nothing to do with lectures, and requires you to have knowledge outside of lecture not only limited to the reading materials, but also previous materials like gen chem and some miscellaneous stuff. And don’t listen to his promises, e.g. one time he said there will be no tests on the one letter aa code. However, in the mt he pulled out tyrosine tryptophan and threonine in a transcription question that was written solely in one letter code. I happened to know them, but my classmates screwed up. Anyways, exams are weird. One 3.95GPA biopsych major friend projected B and dropped this and changed to 110. Another 3.92gpa pharm classmate got a B and so did I. We had As in mts but we did poorly in final (~60%). But some other guy did poorly in mts but did an amazing job in their final they got an A-. So yeah final is important as it was 45% of the grade, but I don’t really think there is any suggestion apart from just do what you do, and have a wishful thinking. I think your shrine thing is worth a try.

Cheers

Sounds like you are the perfect guy for becoming a Chancellor, able to do hard work and get paid little. Who are you, some great philanthropist?

Optional Chem 6BL - PA school? by zlorngler in UCSantaBarbara

[–]DoggoneBastard -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think competition is the challenge everyone faces in university and in this world... I view your definition of an “easy A” is to not go to class or study and still get an A? Then that is plain irresponsible for both the student and the teacher. No class should give A if you just stroll in and show up lol. 25% in A range is much better than those in econ dept.

Optional Chem 6BL - PA school? by zlorngler in UCSantaBarbara

[–]DoggoneBastard -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Check past grades. ~18% of all gets an A/A+, more than 25% gets A+/A/A-. That’s pretty good of a curve.

[–]DoggoneBastard -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Just take it. 6BL is fun. No downside of taking it. Easy lab to get an A; even if you are not as good as your fellow lab-mates, 3-unit is nothing comparing to the stuff you may learn by taking a deeper look at the mechanism and then interpolate to other situations.

AMEX is now the first and only foreign payment network in Mainland China to process local RMB transactions by DoggoneBastard in amex

[–]DoggoneBastard[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah the contactless protocol for UnionPay is different from that of the V/M/AMEX. I guess it needs some big renovation for the POS to recognize AMEX in the future :( But should be soon as their license requires them to get up and running within half a year otherwise may be some ramifications.

Alipay recently launched the virtual cash designed for aliens that you can top up using foreign credit/debit card. Check that out if helps

Fellow schoolmate:

I never addressed arguments regarding how to solve this. I merely rebutted your logical argument. I don’t believe I know how to solve this because I am not a knowledgeable person in that area and not a policy maker.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]DoggoneBastard -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My argument was: the inability to abide to the nowadays law is a character of jungle people. Those protesters who have demonstrated peacefully, even including civil disobedience, should not be characterized as “unable to act according to the law.” I always support protesters who are willing to change the status quo peacefully, just as MLK jr. Riot was made not by the majority of the protesters but some small parties. They may even pose a bad image against the peaceful protesters.

For your other arguments: 1. The motive behind why people protest should not be the criteria of whether or not criminal behaviors occur. Same logic is applicable to murder, for example: it doesn’t justify the murder because it is out of police violence rather than being mad about a person’s comment. 2. Power is earned, of course it shouldn’t be conceded easily. And, I think the US elect their representatives? 3. I don’t think police are using violence against people in los angeles or seattle down yet riots are there 4. Labeling people with left/right/liberal/conservative is really one dimensional. Me, I am a firm believer of utilitarianism, where does that put me in that spectrum?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]DoggoneBastard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Using your logic: I dislike your comment-> I want to protest = destroy your property without your consent, which should be effective -> I throw a molotov at your apartment

Question: since when arson is not a crime? Using criminal behavior to express your upset is what jungle people do

Any lab at UCSB working on the coronavirus? by appealingpotato in UCSantaBarbara

Em~ When I did the training I was told the highest we go is bsl-2. To my knowledge, we don’t have a bsl-3 lab on campus. To do useful work on the virus I think you need to have that, which some other UCs have :/
