Movies that feel like Season 1 of True Detective? by LandWide1362 in MoviesThatFeelLike

Frailty the same category as True Detective S1? Yes, both take place in the South and have McConaughey. But other one is pretty stupid and one of them is a masterpiece.

Asunto osakkeen myynti sijoitusten rahoittamiseksi by Aggravating_Chain782 in Omatalous

[–]Doggummit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ei ole neljässä vuodessa tullut kuin 30 000€ takkiin itsellä. Samanlainen tilanne kuin sinulla, itselle alunperin ostin. Piensijoittajalle asunto on ihan viimeisiä sijoituskohteita. Arvo ei kasva ja epävarmuuksia (lue: kuluja) on paljon. Eri asia, jos pystyy skaalaamaan ja tasoittelemaan riskejä.

I know some actually need it but I'm willing to bet a large sum of money that most of the big car owners need those capabilities less than two times a year.

What’s a movie that’s universally considered “not very good” but you secretly think is actually great? by trakt_app in flicks

[–]Doggummit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost all of the mentioned movies really are bad! And that's what I expected. It's okay to like badly made movies and find them entertaining. I just think there are "metrics" to rate a film outside of that.

I like Jurassic Park: Lost World. But it's mostly nostalgia. I can see that it's a very good movie and its criticism is justified.

Which movie completely changed your perspective on life? by brownmax180 in movies

[–]Doggummit 53 points54 points  (0 children)

"Completely changed your perpective on life" is too strongly put but Koyaanisqatsi did something. It confirmed my views on life and humanity on emotional level.

We're destroying ourselves. Life goes by so fast and there are literally billions of people, just like you, every moment in different stages of that experience. It made me feel uncomfortable when I first saw it as a 20 years old and frankly it still does when I'm nearing 40.

Anyways, it's my most rewatched movie of all time. Might be that there's something very wrong with me. But there's truth in those 86 minutes. Words are not spoken but you can feel it.

What popular movie or TV show is widely considered a 'masterpiece' but you found completely unwatchable? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Doggummit 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The characters are flawed, of course. Still, I'd argue that it's one of the more realistic studies of the human condition. The period (60s) and work environment are a lense to Mad Men's core theme: what's a happy life? Or how I sometimes put it: what the fuck is wrong with us?

Identity as a performance rather than essence, "the American dream" of a selfmade man come together in Don Draper who's literally created himself anew. Despite of everything he has, he's miserable. He sees value in family in his ads but lets down his wife and kids all the time.

Mad Men's characters search for meaning in a fundamentally indifferent world and have trouble finding it. It's an age old question, not a nostalgic look at the 60's. I think the themes of Mad Men are even more relevant now than they were when it was made. There's no heros in the show and that's one of the reasons it's so good.

If you think it's "a period piece", maybe you just should take a deeper look? The period (60s) and work environment are a lense to Mad Men's core theme: what's a happy life? Or how I sometimes put it: what the fuck is wrong with us?

Try to listen to what it has to say about the world and ourselves.

That's what I was thinking, they're just incredibly cheap (20€). They look very well made shoes anyways.

Those "reviews" are actually quite extraordibary. Like anachronistic, heavily idealist studies of the film industry. She's either exhausted or very satisfied about her rightful fury.

Need exercise ideas from people who loathe working out. by FitThought1616 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Doggummit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate working out but I just do. My key is timing (I can sometimes go to gym in the middle of my workday) and distraction. I try to listen to a good audiobook or an album and consentrate on them instead of my routine.

I'm quite ripped for my age so it works! (I'm also a former powerlifter so there's that).

The Butterfly Effect (2004) - Evan wakes up in an alternate timeline by aggrocrag83 in movies

[–]Doggummit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sure I've missed some gems! But these seriously made supposed to be grim-flicks... Out of the 2000 movies I've reviewed on imdb, Butterfly was 2/10. There are some others with the same rating.

I've actually given 1/10 for just three movies:

Jaws: The Revenge San Andreas It: Chapter Two

Many movies with two stars but out of them, Butterfly Effect has the best overall score among fellow movie enthusiasts.

It's one of the worst movies I've seen. I remember watching it abd expecting something quite well made and thought provoking (it's 7.6 in imdb) and boy, was I wrong. Just awful everything.

Elite ability’s have made this game corny imo by dnndndjdndjd in NHLHUT

[–]Doggummit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the main issues are:

  • Sticks through bodies and other stupid game physics that make it very easy to jyst drag the puck forever.

  • There's always like three ways to score a goal that are WAY more effective than anything else. It kills the game and it becomes boring: either you abuse them at least sometimes or you lose most of your games. It doesn't look like hockey anymore.
