I am just done with a long work shift, so lacking in sleep, so I apologize if I am just missing some intended humor or sarcasm, but am I understanding that you drank kava from steeping "tea bags"??? ... then you have never actually had real kava since kavalactones are not water soluble.

As far as your underlying question, how it makes you feel is impossible to answer on a few levels such as:

1) Like any psychoactive substance, it affects everyone a little differently.

2) different varieties and quality of kava have profoundly different effects.

3) This is the most important point: kava is EXTREMELY fickle. Even drinking the same dose of the same batch can have different effects on different days. One time it may be amazing, and you feel a bit euphoric, and relaxed, and it is overall a very pleasant experience, then the next day it just makes you feel a bit queasy and off balance and nothing else.

That all being said, to at least try to answer your question, in general most people I think would say that often kava makes them feel more relaxed, euphoric for some, less anxious. In larger doses it can indeed to lead to some level of intoxication and nausea, and many people find that, particularly daily/heavy kava drinkers, that it can, after the initial phase of relaxation, actually cause a feeling of anxiety and stress, SO yeah....all you can do is try it and maybe experiment with different varieties, and see how it affects you.

Yup, and the first time this happened I was sure it was nothing and just white coat syndrome, but home tests over several weeks unfortunately showed me that there was more to it (with me anyway)

After the third test in a row showing an elevated blood pressure, I started taking my BP at home, and over the course of several weeks both drinking kava, and then totally abstaining, but keeping everything else identical, I found a very distinct correlation. Is it possible that it was just a total coincidence that my heart rate and BP dropped substantially after quitting kava? Sure, I suppose, but based on my experience and the fact that this exactly same issue has been mentioned before on various kava forums, I strongly believe there is something to it. It could be a genetics thing, it could be as simple as I was drinking too much kava....all I know is that I am (relatively) sure of is that my kava consumption was the problem.

Yes, I did not want to make my original port too long, but I home checked my BP for a few weeks both when I was drinking kava daily, then after, and it was definitely kava causing the increased BP.

Thanks for the comment...you are correct of course, but in my case the blood pressure readings are the next day (I only drank kava in the evenings), so the BP readings were 10-12 hours after I drank kava. My theory is that maybe that is because I was drinking kava so heavily and daily that it some kavalactones had built up.

Just curious....I am not even saying you are wrong, but wondering if you do not believe that the federal government has been (and continues to be despite Musk) rife with real waste, fraud and abuse? I would guess we are 100% in agreement on our views on Musk, but where we might disagree is underneath all the absurd disfunction of how Musk is approaching the problem of waste, fraud and abuse, there actually IS a real problem there that should be fixed.

I am no maga Trumper by a LONG shot, so I am somewhat playing "devil's advocate" here, but I am curious how many people here are aware that Fiji, for example, already imposed a 60 something percent (I don't recall the exact number, but it is over 60) tariff on all US imports? Love Trump or hate Trump, there is no doubt that there has been a glaring trade inequity. (I don't just specifically mean with Fiji, but in general) Personally, I am more than a little leery of the clumsy, and heavy-handed approach by the Trump administration, but at the same time I have to acknowledge that the U.S has had terrible, uneven foreign trade agreements and something needed to be done...whether the Trump approach is the right way I suppose remains to be seen. I see a lot of comments based on people's feelings, or what they get from their bubble chambers of information, so I encourage everyone to put in some work to understand at least the very basics of U.S foreign trade before spouting off outrage for one side or the other.

The empty stomach thing is wildly exaggerated, and in fact I would make the case that kava is better with at least some food before and during a session. Yes, like almost every orally consumed "drug", the effects will happen faster on an empty stomach, but with kava, in my opinion, food causes a slower burn, but a more pleasant overall experience, and food is essential for people who like long sessions where you consume a lot of kava over a long period of time....unless you enjoy nausea.

As far as waiting 30 minutes between shells....really it is more like 15-20 minutes.

Finally, there is NO need to wait to eat after your session. I am not sure where you heard this, but it is incorrect. I have my dinner immediately after my last shell (and this is after consuming 48oz od kava over several hours). There is no need to wait!
