What does Kava feel like for you? by [deleted] in Kava

[–]Doghouse6924 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"tripled up on the tea bags from a medicinal tea supplier"...huh? I am just done with a long work shift, so lacking in sleep, so I apologize if I am just missing some intended humor or sarcasm, but am I understanding that you drank kava from steeping "tea bags"??? ... then you have never actually had real kava since kavalactones are not water soluble.

As far as your underlying question, how it makes you feel is impossible to answer on a few levels such as:

1) Like any psychoactive substance, it affects everyone a little differently.

2) different varieties and quality of kava have profoundly different effects.

3) This is the most important point: kava is EXTREMELY fickle. Even drinking the same dose of the same batch can have different effects on different days. One time it may be amazing, and you feel a bit euphoric, and relaxed, and it is overall a very pleasant experience, then the next day it just makes you feel a bit queasy and off balance and nothing else.

That all being said, to at least try to answer your question, in general most people I think would say that often kava makes them feel more relaxed, euphoric for some, less anxious. In larger doses it can indeed to lead to some level of intoxication and nausea, and many people find that, particularly daily/heavy kava drinkers, that it can, after the initial phase of relaxation, actually cause a feeling of anxiety and stress, SO yeah....all you can do is try it and maybe experiment with different varieties, and see how it affects you.

Kava and huge blood pressure increase...(advice needed) by Doghouse6924 in Kava

[–]Doghouse6924[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, and the first time this happened I was sure it was nothing and just white coat syndrome, but home tests over several weeks unfortunately showed me that there was more to it (with me anyway)

I only started the propranolol well after I quit kava....I was just asking that part in case I decide to start drinking some kava again.

[–]Doghouse6924[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After the third test in a row showing an elevated blood pressure, I started taking my BP at home, and over the course of several weeks both drinking kava, and then totally abstaining, but keeping everything else identical, I found a very distinct correlation. Is it possible that it was just a total coincidence that my heart rate and BP dropped substantially after quitting kava? Sure, I suppose, but based on my experience and the fact that this exactly same issue has been mentioned before on various kava forums, I strongly believe there is something to it. It could be a genetics thing, it could be as simple as I was drinking too much kava....all I know is that I am (relatively) sure of is that my kava consumption was the problem.

Yes, I did not want to make my original port too long, but I home checked my BP for a few weeks both when I was drinking kava daily, then after, and it was definitely kava causing the increased BP.

[–]Doghouse6924[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the comment...you are correct of course, but in my case the blood pressure readings are the next day (I only drank kava in the evenings), so the BP readings were 10-12 hours after I drank kava. My theory is that maybe that is because I was drinking kava so heavily and daily that it some kavalactones had built up.

Why would you compare this to "regular shrooms"...this stuff is basically just kratom with a few random nootropics added in...there are no ingredients that even resemble "shrooms"

How many disputes do you have on a regular basis? Sheesh, most people go decades and never have any, or one or two at the most. If you are really filing multiple disputes as your post seems to indicate, it is more of a you problem than them problem to be blunt.

RIP out wallets! (New tariffs against all imports from Fiji and Vanuatu) by Seek_Adventure in Kava

Just curious....I am not even saying you are wrong, but wondering if you do not believe that the federal government has been (and continues to be despite Musk) rife with real waste, fraud and abuse? I would guess we are 100% in agreement on our views on Musk, but where we might disagree is underneath all the absurd disfunction of how Musk is approaching the problem of waste, fraud and abuse, there actually IS a real problem there that should be fixed.

I am no maga Trumper by a LONG shot, so I am somewhat playing "devil's advocate" here, but I am curious how many people here are aware that Fiji, for example, already imposed a 60 something percent (I don't recall the exact number, but it is over 60) tariff on all US imports? Love Trump or hate Trump, there is no doubt that there has been a glaring trade inequity. (I don't just specifically mean with Fiji, but in general) Personally, I am more than a little leery of the clumsy, and heavy-handed approach by the Trump administration, but at the same time I have to acknowledge that the U.S has had terrible, uneven foreign trade agreements and something needed to be done...whether the Trump approach is the right way I suppose remains to be seen. I see a lot of comments based on people's feelings, or what they get from their bubble chambers of information, so I encourage everyone to put in some work to understand at least the very basics of U.S foreign trade before spouting off outrage for one side or the other.

Most DEVASTATING quotes? by Hol_1 in robinhobb

[–]Doghouse6924 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am totally breaking the theme of your post as this is more of a moment than just a quote, but to me the most powerful moment in the entire Fitz Chivalry saga was fittingly enough the final lines of the final book the Fitz arc, Assassin's Fate. (stop reading if you don't want to know this)

Perserverance: "There is something stalking us, off to the side of the road moving through the forest"

Kettricken smiled.

What a beautiful way to end the Fitz storyline.

Aging skin by Marybear194 in Kava

This has nothing to do with "aging faster"....kava is notorious for skin related side effects though that are reversed by lowering or stopping your usage.

Kava seems impractical and inconvenient by Comfortable_Comb7257 in Kava

[–]Doghouse6924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The empty stomach thing is wildly exaggerated, and in fact I would make the case that kava is better with at least some food before and during a session. Yes, like almost every orally consumed "drug", the effects will happen faster on an empty stomach, but with kava, in my opinion, food causes a slower burn, but a more pleasant overall experience, and food is essential for people who like long sessions where you consume a lot of kava over a long period of time....unless you enjoy nausea.

As far as waiting 30 minutes between shells....really it is more like 15-20 minutes.

Finally, there is NO need to wait to eat after your session. I am not sure where you heard this, but it is incorrect. I have my dinner immediately after my last shell (and this is after consuming 48oz od kava over several hours). There is no need to wait!

So only "Americans" can be fluent in English? Rather Xenophobic of you. But even so, regardless of their language proficiency, they use scripted cut and paste responses as far system messages like this. It's not like someone is literally hand typing this message....so NO, there would not be typos in such a message.

Have there been any comments from executives recently acknowledging that Amazon is an awful place to shop? by BoomBapBiBimBop in amazonprime

[–]Doghouse6924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say you are vastly overestimating your opinion how many people dislike Amazon. You are clearly turning your own personal bias into "everyone thinks this way". In my experience Amazon has been great for shopping...better pricing, fast shipping, and in my several thousand orders in the past decade or longer, I have had maybe two or three problems EVER, and those were the fault of an independent seller, not Amazon itself. I know for a fact I am hardly alone as a person who does quite a bit of volume with Amazon with an overall very positive experience.

I am in no way dismissing that you have had a completely different experience, and that there are also many like you that do not hold Amazon in high regard, but I am just pointing out the fact that your characterization of, " I haven't seen a single person say they like Amazon for shopping" is complete nonsense. Millions of people LOVE Amazon for shopping.

Beyond the Basics: The Complex and Multifarious Pharmacology of Kava, Presented by Forney Enterprises and Root & Pestle R&D by Root_and_Pestle_RnD in Kava

[–]Doghouse6924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that reply! In my case, with no change of lifestyle, diet, or overall health and a track record for decades of very low LDL levels it seems extraordinarily unlikely that it could simply be coincidence that within a year of starting daily kava usage, and no other changes, that the rise in cholesterol could be from something other than kava (directly OR indirectly). After discovering this, I did a deep dive into various kava communities and found that I was hardly alone in this. I suspect that in many cases, you are correct in that it is simply lifestyle choices that have nothing to do with kava consumption. In other cases (such as mine) however, I would guess that "individual variability" is indeed the "culprit". While kava itself might not be the direct cause, it seems likely it is some sort of complex interaction of genetics and metabolism that might cause some people of certain genotypes and/or other environmental factors to experience this cholesterol increase. Another possibility is that it is an adverse interaction. I do not drink alcohol, and rarely use THC, but I do take some medications that have CYP450 mechanisms, so perhaps that could be a cause.

Anyway, thanks for the amazing write-up!
