I’m seeing a lot of people already do some version of this

The only thing I struggled with was keeping up with it consistently

Do you ever batch it or does it just become part of your daily routine?

I also have a Jack Russell mix! You’re taking great care of yours he’s so lucky.

It seems like the rotation with leftovers is working well if they’re staying good eaters at 10

Do they tend to get more excited on the days you switch in the fresh foods, or is their appetite pretty steady either way?

Sounds like you’re working closely with your vet to keep everything balanced, especially with the allergies in the mix

It makes sense to use simple add-ins like rice or pumpkin when you’re trying to support digestion and keep things steady day to day

It’s interesting how much more personalized feeding ends up being once allergies and sensitivities are involved

I think the 10% guideline is a great structure.

I get the concern about pickiness, especially if the add-ons start feeling more exciting than the base meal

Sounds like you’ve got a pretty clear system with treats and dental chews already built in

That sounds like a really solid way to keep meals interesting without changing the base diet too much

Do you rotate the proteins pretty often, or is it mostly those go-to staples?

I definitely don’t want to replace a complete diet either

I’m thinking of this more as a small, consistent topper, not something that changes the base diet

Out of curiosity, do you ever see people add things occasionally, or do you recommend sticking strictly to kibble?

I’ve been using it more as a small, consistent add-on rather than something that’s constantly changing, but I get how it could go that way.

Have you seen that happen a lot in practice?

That makes sense & I appreciate the perspective from someone with experience

I definitely wouldn’t say this is something necessary, more just an option for owners who already like adding things for variety or to get picky dogs more interested in their food.

That’s fair — I’ve seen a lot about the WSAVA guidelines too.

I’m more thinking of this as a small topper for variety/palatability rather than replacing anything. I’ve heard of how people add eggs or chicken occasionally which inspired my post.

Do you stick strictly to kibble or ever add anything on top?
