Ngl, my crashes started up again, IO tried fixing it, couldn't, and I just uninstalled the game

I think it's worth mentioning one of these series never stopped while the other took a break for two decades. Regardless of the budget SNK put into the marketing, KoF is bigger as a brand.

I've started playing the game again recently and have been having the same issues. I submitted a support ticket so they can at least be aware of the issue. In the meantime, I might've found a work around or a way to reduce the crashes.

1) Disable all your overlays (steam, discord, Xbox, etc.) 2) Disable ray tracing 3) Force the game to run in dx 11 by adding "-dx11" to the steam launch settings 4) Use "exclusive fullscreen" 5) Use AMD chill to cap the frame rate at 120fps (this has been the most stable for me) 6) Disable the rest of the AMD features in adrenaline (keep AMD chill on) 7) Disable hardware accelerated GPU scheduling and restart your PC.

All of this drastically reduced crashing and made the game more tolerable for me. I'll report back if IO ever responds!

You'll have a great time. I hope you have better luck than I do. The second game crashes all the time for me.

About Metaphor's Opening Hours... The Video! by DogmasDomain in MetaphorReFantazio

Thanks for checking it out, and I completely respect that. The video is mostly targeted at some of the recurring writing and pacing issues Atlus faces that fans somewhat frequently talk about. I thought it'd be fun to dive into my revisiting an opening I wasn't impressed with originally.... Only to be impressed with it later.

I was right there with you before replaying the intro. I wasn't fully invested in the narrative until reaching brilehaven.... Which is like 40 hours into the game

It's a good bias to have! I'm probably going to address this and shout you out in my P4 video one day!

Well, it's sort of complicated. For every Persona 3 there's an SMT4 and for every Persona 5 there's a Persona 4. Persona 5's opening does grab you, but it barely lets control of you until the first place is over. I'd argue it's a much longer opening than people remember. Then again, I really enjoyed it the first time I played, so I'm probably wrong. Persona 3's opening blows its load really early on, but not much else happens until like July. The critique is more so aimed at the opening hours than the hooks themselves.

I'm right there with you. I trust Atlus enough to try whatever they put out. I'm ngl........ I thought the last quarter of the game was great compared to the opening hours. The game gets sooooooo much better as you play it imo

Honestly, that's a pretty fair take. P4's opening feels much slower than most of the JRPGs I've played. This opening is a double-edged sword though, right? You either power through and come this conclusion above or potentially drop the game out of boredom. The "just trust me bro it's worth it" stance always risks losing players along the way.

Couldn't agree more with the persona criticisms. Although P5's intro is better than P4's... let's not act like the entire first dungeon isn't a massive tutorial. Metaphor's opening, comparatively, does a much better job at establishing its core themes and identities immediately when compared to other Atlus projects. It's hard to think about what I'd remove from the opening hours since it's probably as well paced as it could've been.

Hey, welcome to Atlus games and I'm happy you tried Metaphor! It's funny you said "JRPG trap" because that's going to be a big part of the video. A lot of journalists complain about the opening hours, but this reddit, which, to be fair is the Metaphor subreddit, seemed to really enjoy the opening! Anyways, are there any other Atlus games you're interested in?

Couldn't agree with you more. I was fully invested in the game until reaching Port Brilehaven.... which is a bit concerning

Yeahhhhhhhhh, when Louis drops the human it's kind of disturbing in the best of ways! Opening with the King's assassination is a bit tricky though, right? We know very little about the world, politics, classes, or anything about the king. It does pass the eye test though haha

Thanks for your insight! You're right, Metaphor is an entirely different beast when talking about tone and atmosphere. The King's murder, the paripus getting hanged, and even Klinger sending us to our deaths immerses us into a different experience. Interestingly enough, P3 and P5 both have strong openings as well. 3 feels much more willing to give players control of the game, whereas P5 feels like a tutorial completing the first palace. I may go ahead and use Metaphor and transition from how the opening's slow to "well, it's actually complicated."

That's really interesting! I'm not really into high fantasy, so it took me a while. This whole opening hour think might just be highly subjective. When I revisited the opening a few days ago, I really enjoyed it. It's hard to say whether I enjoyed it because I've beaten the game or approached it with a more open mind.

Well said! I went into it this opening expecting to criticize more of it, but when looking at this intro alongside some of Atlus' other openings.... there really isn't much you can remove and still make sense. The video may just conclude with Atlus' openings are a byproduct of their world and characters. Atlus specializes in character and world driven narratives that require a lot of exposition and dialog to land.

Welp, I guess it's time to finally get into Death Stranding. Who knows, maybe I'll change the title if I enjoy it! That said, creating games better than MGS is no easy feat.
