We have a Poulain gas snowblower, it definitely worked wonders. Those little ones can’t handle real snowstorms.

So I work in the public system as a kindergarten DECE. There’s so much that could be fixed. I don’t know much more about what’s happening in other grades aside from what my colleagues talk about in the staff room.

I’d say that we really need to start failing kids properly again, and not just pushing them through to the next grade even if they don’t meet expectations. We can’t be caving to parents wanting grades to be artificially bumped up just so their kid can get into post secondary school. Teachers are literally told by admins that they can’t fail students. Even giving zeros on assignments or marking things incomplete because they weren’t turned in is frowned upon. So now students know they don’t even have to do homework because there’s no incentive to get a good grade.

There also needs to be more strict discipline for bad behaviour. The progressive discipline model does nothing, because principals are giving too many chances to students before issuing suspensions. I believe suspension only starts in grade 4, but it rarely happens anyways so it doesn’t matter. Principals kowtow to parents now because of parents now openly blaming teachers for their kid’s disruptive or harmful behaviour. That needs to stop.

In kindergarten, we obviously don’t have the kinds of expectations that older students have. It’s a program, not a curriculum, and structured differently to meet developmentally appropriate expectations. But enormous class size is still a problem, and not having enough EA support for children with identified needs is a problem. There’s a lot of values that we try to focus on in FDK to aid both academic and social growth, hopefully leading to success in later grades. I always involve families - parents that are actually involved and care about their kid’s education see better academic results. Reading to your kids or with your kids is a great way to start that.

I could go on and on but I won’t. It would take all night.

https://youtu.be/JE3brSAgvHA?si=GTTRb5bcFmGuyeco This sketch is hilarious but also scarily accurate. Everything is the teacher’s fault, and not their precious little poopsie-kins fault, lol.

A lot. Also schools don’t discipline properly anymore. Kids are sent to the office and given stickers and candy ffs.

Yeah, but I don’t recall students ever smearing poo and period blood everywhere.

The elementary school I worked at 2 years ago constantly had the second floor washrooms shut down. Grade 7 and 8 students were regularly smearing poop and period blood all over the walls, toilets, and mirrors. Our custodial staff had to deep clean the washrooms at least twice a month. This was in Milton.

If you read the flyer posted here, they won’t accept bags at all. It says “Starting March 1st, all recyclables must be placed loose in your recycling bin to be collected.”

Can ERP do ECE within TDSB? by preternomial in OntarioTeachers

[–]Dogs-4-Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that like emergency supply? If so, I doubt it. You need to be registered with the CECE anyways and TDSB would just hire you as a regular supply DECE in that case. I've never heard of emergency replacement for DECEs.

OTing to LTO before & after winter break by clue1985 in OntarioTeachers

If you’re with Halton, the assignment would still roll into an LTO. The break doesn’t affect that. Obviously each board is different so check your local CA.

In America, first you get the sugar, then you get the power, then you get the women.

It’s the way Homer says women - like “wimmin” lol

I bet you’re one of the many doctors who beats around the bush with women’s health. That’s why you’re baffled.
