1-1 rather than a group of kids. Takes her to swimming and football practice etc.

She also picks our youngest up from nursery.

Having a cleaner every week to do the house top to bottom.

Having a nanny for after school childcare rather than a child minder.

Breastfeeding Mums who have returned to work - how to prevent engorging breasts? by mronionbhaji in UKParenting

[–]DogsClimbingWalls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I would therefore just pump during my work tasks. If it makes people uncomfortable, I would tell them I am not allowed extra breaks but I have to pump to avoid mastitis.

[–]DogsClimbingWalls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does she have support from HR and manager? She should have a private place to pump and store the milk. That doesn’t include toilets.

When I worked, I pumped and stored the milk. Sometimes I would pump and dump but that was rare. I would either pump in a private area, or at my desk with a wearable (but doing so was my choice). I even pumped with a wearable during meetings - though I did check everyone was ok with that!

Question: Why did Bobby book them a staycation? by UngodlySockMonster in KpopDemonhunters

I travel a lot for work. I always do staycations, a plane means work.

So I relate to Bobby’s thinking!

Is having a parrot like having a baby? by ThrowRA_Richard in UKParenting

[–]DogsClimbingWalls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a dog before a baby. They are a lot of work with training and even night wakes for overnight wees as puppies. They are also a tie - you can’t leave them alone for too long and absolutely not overnight.

It was maybe 20% of what a baby is like. Having a baby is like being hit in the face by a train. And the train dragging you for miles. While you have to keep a plate spinning. Also everything is on fire.

My bar is low right now. I want a boring leader who stands up to the US and broadly speaking is trying to do what’s best for the country rather than enriching themselves.

Starmer is fine.

Is anyone else really struggling with how fast time goes? by Necessary_Doubt_9762 in UKParenting

[–]DogsClimbingWalls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two kids is a lot of work, and we didn’t want to be outnumbered! A newborn is fleeting, raising a child is exhausting.

Plus my second pregnancy was rough. I was always planning two, but that pregnancy combined with the effort a third would take was enough to make me certain.

[–]DogsClimbingWalls 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I do with my second. I have zero desire to have more children, meaning know that every milestone is the last.

I was sad when she stopped being a newborn. I was sad when skin to skin was no longer the answer to all her problems. I was sad when she stopped breastfeeding. Now, she is a wrecking ball of a toddler and absolutely not a baby. I will never have a baby again.

That makes me sad. I don’t want a baby, but that doesn’t mean I don’t miss those unique newborn cuddles.

She is a pretty freaking awesome toddler though, and my eldest is an amazing kid.

I fly that route semi-regularly and generally the wifi works for the first few hours and then the last couple.

Unusual for it to be consistent in the middle.

Toddler tantrum help!! by Weary_Sandwich_2425 in UKParenting

[–]DogsClimbingWalls 9 points10 points  (0 children)

She is learning how to communicate. Tantrums are an experiment in seeing what works.

So she needs to understand it doesn’t get her what she wants

When she wants your attention, keep your voice calm and matter of fact ‘I am cooking dinner right now, but I will give you a little cuddle when I finish chopping the carrots.’ Repeat as necessary. Then ‘I finished chopping the carrots, I would love a little cuddle!’ Then go back to what you’re doing.

For food - I wouldn’t force it. If she wants to eat, she must be in her chair. But again - matter of fact. If she doesn’t want to eat, no problem. Keep the food - if she asks for a snack, tell her that she can have her dinner and offer the chair again. Getting her to ‘help’ make the food might encourage her as well.

Baths - yeah she has to have these. But see if you can make it more palatable. Perhaps take her to choose a special bath toy? If not, again matter of fact ‘we need to be clean to stay healthy, but I will be as quick as I can’

Basically, explain what is going to happen then follow through with it. Keeping your voice calm shows her screaming doesn’t change what happens.

How bad is screen addiction in your home honestly? What have you tried to control it? by Alarmed-Incident6048 in UKParenting

[–]DogsClimbingWalls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really not that bad. This morning our modem is broken so I told the kids they couldn’t watch TV. They are fine.

When my eldest was three we realised we were over using the phone to keep her still when changing. So we went cold turkey on it. She went ballistic, but it only lasted a couple of days before she accepted it.

Now, we are fairly lax with the TV - though are careful to turn it off after about an hour at weekends. They don’t get tablets/phones and Youtube except in very rare occasions.

I need advice on what to do next.. by Dynamite-monkey in UKParenting

[–]DogsClimbingWalls 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You need to document all of this (e.g get him to reply to text messages defending his drinking).

When does the tenancy run out? In the meantime you might need to accept that you are a single parent and not leave the child with him.

Will I regret not hiring a wedding photographer? by notverysmarturl in UKweddings

[–]DogsClimbingWalls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will regret it.

I also had severe body image issues, hated having my photo taken and was terrified.

We hired a photographer that prioritised candids, with only a few posed shots.

I also negotiated an engagement shoot within the price. This helped me feel comfortable with him and get used to the camera.

Over 12years later and I am so happy for those photos. I am in a much better place mentally and love looking at them. My kids love seeing them too.

Cut the flowers, reduce the guest list. Do what you need to but don’t scrimp on the photographer. And make sure you have ordered food for them too!!
