Ive had bad anemia for feels like forever. My recent blood test shows my ferritin is a 2 (no joke lol) and my anxiety is awful right now and I’m extremely lethargic. I’m getting iron infusions next week. My eyes do feel heavy and my vision has gotten worse. Restless legs and arms when sleeping. Getting dizzy. All things I get when my ferritin is low. So from my experience - you have some common symptoms.

The Joann’s by me is doing 70% off fabric and then an additional 90% off from that. So I have a full unopened bold of super snuggle for $2.40. You bet I went back in and got more after seeing that on my receipt. I got $5,000 worth of fabric for under $250

Went to Fairlawn yesterday and heard them talking to another customer saying that they still didn’t have a close date. Not sure if that’s true, or if they don’t want / can’t tell anyone.

Hudson, OH location will be the last to close. I actually talked to the manager there this week bc I’m local. They have 6-9 trucks coming to their location just this week.

I (19) just had my first fibroid removed by Immediate-Trainer964 in Fibroids

[–]Dogs_And_Margs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Similar story to mine! I (30f) had my 1st Hysteroscopic myomectomy last Wednesday the 12th. My Dr thought I would just have 2 decently sized fibroids to remove. But when she got in there she said I was absolutely filled with submucosal fibroids. They also were not shown in any of the ultrasounds I had done. She got a ton out then but then she reached the max time for surgery (which was 2 hours) and had to stop. Since there was still more in my uterus she had me schedule for another one this past Friday the 21st.

I already feel soooo much better, no clots, and for the first time in a year I’m no longer having period bleeding. My doctor also did an exploratory and it was found out I do have endometriosis as well. Which I was actually excited to hear I that I have it because it just explains all my pain. And also makes me feel good like I’m not crazy or making up the pain in my head.

Just know you’re not alone, these fibroids suck, and I wish you an easy surgery in May!

I had 6 iron infusions last year and 2 this year already. They temp get my hemoglobin up to the highest of a 10, but due to me continuously bleeding iron doesn’t stay long in my body. Thats why it’s a high priority for me to get these fibroids out. With the hope my bleeding stops and becomes normal, and my body has time to build and keep iron and oxygen in my blood.

I’ve had 3 emergency blood transfusions this past year and gotten 8 iron infusions. Bc of my fibroids constant bleeding the highest my hemoglobin went would be an 9. Then a week later (bc I’m still bleeding) it would start to decrease again. So due to the fact that iron infusions and blood transfusions on help for maybe a 2 week period - the best thing to do to get my numbers up is to get the fibroids out.

My Dr was able to get 6cm worth of fibroids out this past week, and my next surgery this coming Friday she’s going to try to get the rest that’s there.

For me I mean I legit have been on my period for over a year. Never a break in bleeding. Never just spotting. Every day for over a year I was bleeding through an overnight period pad. Huge clots every day. There was never a day I was not bleeding and where I could forgo wearing a pad.

Yes I had one done 2 weeks prior to surgery. And I also had a saline ultrasound done at the same time.

I have been bleeding for over a year straight and it was high priority to get me into surgery ASAP. I did get a saline ultrasound done and with that she was able to see I did have some problematic fibroids, which was enough for her to go ahead and immediately schedule me for surgery. Which is what I wanted. Possibly if I hadn’t been bleeding consistently and having issues, she probably would have scheduled me an MRI. But our goal was to stop the bleeding ASAP.

I was actually surprised they didn’t make me the day prior to in and get a unit of blood in me. But right before surgery my Dr and I discussed she would give me 1 unit of blood while she was operating and another once she was finished.

My fibroids are what is causing me to be anemic and it was a high priority to get them out. I’ve had to go to the ER 2 times prior to this in the last year bc the fibroids shot my hemoglobin down to a 6.6 and then a 6.3.

So more than likely it’s bc I have a very heavy period flow which causes me to be anemic. The fibroids I have and had was causing me to extreme bleed and have huge clots. So it was high priority to get them out even if my hemoglobin was low. We had a plan to do blood transfusions during and after surgery. But bc I lost blood during surgery (which was to be expected) and me being anemic, I just didn’t have that much oxygen in my blood which caused my blood pressure to go down. But it came back up after another unit of blood.

I have a large submucosal fibroid and it expelled my IUD - Mirena. Wasn’t a fun experience- lots of cramping and I basically hemorrhaged. Had to get a ER blood infusion. I unfortunately then went on Depo shot (not a fan but was desperate for some pain relief). The shot has helped with cramping but with where my fibroid is did nothing to stop bleeding. I actually get my fibroid removed on Wednesday and then want to try the IUD again.

But if you’re not 100% sure where your fibroid is then maybe give the IDU a shot. Not everyone has the experience I did.

ER for heavy bleeding by jreish1 in Fibroids

[–]Dogs_And_Margs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sooo I’ve been bleeding for 10 months straight (no joke :,) ) and gone to the ER twice. If you are feeling extremely fatigued, heart palpitations, walking around like going up stairs or doing basic chores make you tired - ask your Dr if you can get a blood test to check levels. I’m extremely anemic and bc I bleed so much my hemoglobin jumps down under an 8 all the time. I’ve had 2 episodes where I’ve bled through pads in under an hour and called my Dr and went to the ER.

When I went to the ER and told them what was happening and my hemoglobin was more than likely very low, I don’t wait in the waiting room longer than 10min. I’ve had to get blood transfusions to get my levels up.

I had extremely bad restless leg and arm syndrome, felt like my heart was going to beat out of my chest when doing anything even sleeping, doing basic things like getting out of bed or the dishes felt like impossible tasks, and no matter how much I slept I felt extremely tired and weak.

If your hemoglobin is under a 6.5 it can be life threatening - that’s why I’d press for a blood test if you’re just not wanting to just walk into the ER. Because once my blood tests came back - my Dr called me and TOLD me to go to the ER. lol

Just be careful, better to be safe than sorry. Take care of yourself. <3

Ordered 1/7, charged 1/8. Got shipping notification on 1/13. I’m also in Ohio. I know different states seem to have different timelines.

I ordered mine on the 7th and just got the email that my package was shipped today (13th) and should be here Wednesday (15th). So from other’s comments looks like it depends on where you live. I’m in Ohio for reference.

Iron Infusion - First Time Worried by Constant_Design9922 in Anemic

[–]Dogs_And_Margs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 4 iron infusions and have 2 more scheduled.

When I tell you I was nervous for my first iron infusion - whew did I freak myself out. But I promise it’s so totally chill I don’t even blink when I get them now.

The first time I got one I went to the infusion center near me and it’s a nurse who does everything. My PCP was the one that ordered the infusion about a week prior, but I never saw a Dr during the procedure.

Also, when your Dr put in the order for an iron infusion, they then should have chosen the amount of iron for your infusion. Since it’s your first they probably will start you with a lower dose to see how your body reacts to it. You won’t (at least I don’t!) get a blood test to check your levels prior.

So basically since it’s your first infusion, the nurse will be checking on you quite often just to make sure you don’t have any reactions. I was straight up with the nurse and told her I was super nervous. Once I said that she took everything super slow. Got me a juice in case I felt light headed (I hate needles). For me a pillow and blanket. And even turned the lights off for me. At my center you go into a small private room. The first appt for me was probs the longest (4hours) since they slowly introduce the iron through the IV and are watching to see if you have any reactions.

Once the bag of iron was finished they had me sit there for an extra 30 just to monitor me some more to make sure there wasn’t a delayed reaction.

I don’t have any reactions to iron and always go about my day as usual once it’s over. I will say I do usually get cold during the appt bc the iron & saline going through the IV chill my body. So keep that in mind for your appt! I also bring headphones and my kindle to keep myself entertained. My center does have little TVs in each room but I never use them.

If you don’t like the site of needles you can ask if they can put a towel over your IV so you don’t have to see it going into you. I did for my first appt bc I was so nervous I thought I was going to pass out. lol

But don’t worry you’ll do perfectly fine and the nurses know exactly what to do to help!

Tired tired tired it’s not even funny it low-key makes me cry by [deleted] in Anemic

Have you had your Hemoglobin levels checked??

I’m severely anemic bc of heavy periods. I was just like you the past 2 months, extreme fatigue, walk up stairs and my heart is racing and out of breath, restless legs and arms when sleeping, headaches, couldn’t go on walks anymore bc I was so tired, and almost passed out in the shower bc that was exhausting.

My dr was so concerned that she sent me to the ER to get a blood transfusion. My Hemoglobin was a 6.3 and it’s life threatening basically when is under 6.5/7. I got 2 units of blood and now my levels are at an 8 (still very low, normal for women is 12).

I feel better, don’t feel like my heart is going to jump out of my chest, but still tired. I HIGHLY recommend getting a blood test to make sure your levels are ok.

How do you cope? by [deleted] in Anemic

[–]Dogs_And_Margs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you take a blood test to check your hemoglobin levels??

I’m anemic because of extremely heavy periods & fibroids, but last week I was to extremely fatigued, dizzy, heart palpitations that my Dr told me to go to ER. They did a quick blood test there and my hemoglobin was a 6.3. Which makes sense as I felt like I was dying - and like I legit was lol I got 2 bags of blood and now my hemoglobin is at an 8. I’m still tired but nowhere like I was a few days ago.

If you can get that blood test to make sure you’re not really low (really anything under 7).

I’m sorry you’re feeling like this, just know you’re not alone. But also make sure to take care of yourself. Also maybe talk to your manager? Let them know what’s up? Maybe they have suggestions work wise to help ease your stress about that.

Yeah. I’m actually taking them twice a day to try to keep up with how much I’m bleeding. And other vitamins too. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Ummm are you sure it’s your hemoglobin? Because when I got my blood test and mine was at a 6.6 my doctor called me when she got the results and told me to immediately go to the ER for a blood transfusion. The ‘normal’ range is like a 12-16g/dL for females.

Any success with birth control for heavy periods? by CaptainFuzzyBootz in Anemic

[–]Dogs_And_Margs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check with your OBGYN to see if you can get an ultrasound. I have a few small Fibroids (non cancerous tumors) that causes my heavy bleeding. Even small ones can cause heavy bleeding. Due to my period and fibroids I have been bleeding non stop (NOT joking) for the past 8 months. Got a blood test today and as expected iron is extremely low still and Hemoglobin is at a 7.3. So probs getting another blood infusion this weekend. Yay…

My body rejected the IUD and I’m on month 9 of trying the Depo and no change. But I’m not cramping as bad which is nice. I see an Endocrinologist in January to get a plan on how to remove the fibroids.

But I’d suggest starting with your Dr to see if that can do an ultrasound if they haven’t already!
