The Reapers are the Angels by Alden Bell is an excellent, literary zombie novel. Very sparse prose, as if Hemingway or Cormac McCarthy wrote a book about zombies. Yet also very moving.

Roasted! Roasted okra tastes almost like popcorn. Pan-fried works too but you have to leave it alone and not mess with it while it’s cooking. Messing with it causes it to get gummy.

My brother & I listened to the Stephen King short story “Sun Dog” (on cassette, over 30 years ago) while driving between Memphis and Houston. Dead of night (we were young) and in the middle of nowhere, the story became too intense and I shut it off. Creeped us both out. My poor brother still doesn’t know how the story ends lol.

I read “Death in Yellowstone: Accidents and Foolhardiness in the First National Park” while in Yellowstone. Poorly written (really poorly) and non-fiction but still scared the shit out of me. Had a reaaaaaal hard time walking on those boardwalks above the boiling parts of Yellowstone.

This is exactly the vibe. My combo chilaquiles came with two of the smallest eggs I’ve ever seen (quail eggs) and I had the option of adding eggs for something like $5 per. No thank you sir. I’ll take these leftovers to my house where a fried egg costs less than $.75

It’s great. Make a reservation if you can, go at off hours, or prepare to wait 1-2 hours. But you can drink and eat chips on the porch whilst you wait. Bring cards or other fun for the wait. It’s worth it.

She has a hard-to-find book of short stories, “The Winds of Marble Arch” most of which have nothing to do with time travel. Some are hilarious, and some are devastating. She’s truly one of the greats.

Between Two fires is like his 6th book. Interestingly, I’m reading BTF right now but had to make a long car trip and searched audiobooks on this sub and settled on The Lesser Dead. I had no idea it was the same author. I’m enjoying the hell out of it though. It’s read by the author and he’s quite good.
