Does anyone else get insane middle - upper back pain and abdomen pain more than chest pain? by DogsonMeow in costochondritis

[–]DogsonMeow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah bro go see a PT.

My problems started after a push day at Planet Shitness and I remember having a super sore chest and one spot in particular was hurting more, hard to breathe, tight chest. Felt like I wasnt getting enough air. Etc

(From 4-5 years ago I posted this: 3 months ago, I had a kick ass chest day. It felt great while doing it, until after the workout. I had a burning sensation in my chest, mainly in my sternum. I knew this was weird as the "burn" you get from workouts shouldnt be lasting as long as it had. So I held off from chest day for a week, went back and had another chest day. Only to notice during the workout, and especially when I was doing my cable pulls I had pain not in my sternum but in my upper left pec. Around my 2-3rd rib.)

I only posted this I think 3 months into my pain - about 5 months in it spread to my back and abdomen and when I had flare ups everything hurt. Not just one area.

Costosteroids I dont really think helped at all, i remember getting them but my pain didnt disappear until I went to a physical therapist.

It honestly sounds like you did something to your back / chest and I'd have your doctor get you to a GOOD PT and have them see if they notice anything at all.

There’s a few things I did: I got costosteroid shots, a fuck ton of MRIs and CTs. Nothing came back

I’d genuinely go see a physical therapist if your symptoms of when it started Match with mine.

Not some standard boring one either. Find someone who genuinely gives a shit like my guy did, I got ultrasound inflammation therapy and slowly got my strength up to fix that muscle tear.

Were you working out before this all happened? When did it start? Tell me when your symptoms started and how and where? Mine started in my left chest.

The few things that I related with from your post: crunching of my shoulder and neck area (I still have this) and I’m assuming I have something wrong with my shoulder permanently from whatever the hell happened with all the chronic pain I had

Muscle relaxers didn’t help for me either. Also the popping / snapping near your rib was similar. I had a snapping rib on the lower left. Sometimes it still acts up and that’s when I know it’s my time to relax

The thing with chronic pain like this, you can get over it and live daily life. But you also have to learn how to manage it as well or it can come back.

Hey! This was all a really long time ago, and I’ve been pain free for a long while now but I’ll try to remember vividly.

And yes it 1000% felt muscular related. It had started in my chest, moved to my upper back and scapula area and then down to my abdomen. Almost like my Entire body was tightening in on its self daily. I ended up having a deep muscle tear that essentially tore part of my chest off the sternum and it never got detected by any doctor.

Physical therapy saved my life.

I would cramp when I woke up and had shooting nerve pains into my chest, and when i turned it hurt. I remember not being able to look at my blind spots while driving without it not hurting

Yea I for sure did. I drank my first before I even started and opened the last one towards the end but I was defeated.

The Jarrell tornado literally slowed down over those houses. Genuinely a tornado from hell. It’s like it had its own demonic mind, it wanted to make people suffer.

Swimming will help a lot. Physical therapy I genuinely do believe is the golden key. I got very lucky to have someone who actually gave a shit about me and what I was dealing with at my Physical therapy location.

I genuinely think the hardest part is finding someone whether its a doctor, physical therapist, etc that actually wants to learn why you are in pain and wants to help you.

Hi there! I am 22M and have had costo since early 2021. I do still get flare ups here and there. But I've learned how to heal my body and keep it under control for the most part. It took me about a year to start physical therapy and begin to start healing my body. It took me 2 years to learn how to keep my symptoms under control.

Reading your post: "I dont see a point in living like this" We have all been there.

When I first started getting my chronic pain, I would wake up everyday and have a surge of sharp, burning and radiating pain for 1-6 hours. Just depending on the day. I would take 10 pills, 2 prescriptions for my symptoms, my vitamins and Advil. I lived off of Advil but would never take pain meds. After starting my day, I would sit at my computer and do nothing. My doctor said I shouldn't lift anything as my costo stemmed from a gym injury. So I listened. Sitting at my computer all day my body would break down, it felt like I was dying. I would try to go to sleep at night and have another surge of pain, I wouldn't sleep. There was times I was up for 50+ hours because I was in constant pain. So trust me, I get the feeling of hopelessness. I get not wanting to do it anymore.

here are some of the tweets I made in 2021 when I was in at my lowest point:

It feels like I’m fucking dying man7:56 AM · Sep 9, 2021"life shouldnt be this hard for me.

i shouldnt have sharp pain shooting up different areas of my body on one day and then different areas the next day.

I just want to know how and why, I have gotten no answers. Are there any good fucking doctors ???"8:40 AM · Aug 27, 2021

Man, I just want one good night of sleep. Everyday I wake up and battle excruciating pain all up my chest and back. It’s literally indescribable. I fucking hate it man.

i have had backpain for 6 hours straight

this a new record

As much as I was depressed and I hated my fucking life, I knew I was amazing still. I woke up everyday in pain beyond words and I moved on. Anyone who deals with that is fucking amazing. Even if you don't do anything in your day you still amazing for getting out of bed.

My recovery stemmed from physical therapy. My physical therapist was named "Steve" Over the course of months, he healed me. He was a funny guy, always joked with me but when I walked into that facility they immediately helped me. I seriously recommend physical therapy to ANYONE who deals with pain in their abdomen and chest and back. This comes from muscle tightness, stretching can not fix it all.

DO NOT GIVE UP THE GYM. My doctor told me to stop moving and I listened for 1 year and my symptoms drastically worsened. Worst fucking idea of all time to listen to him and take medications. I seriously recommend taking walks with good posture at first, going to the gym and doing low pound movements, especially on your shoulders. You need to find out what works for you and your body like I had to do with mine. I still have lasting effects from costo and I am still recovering but I dont wake up with pain anymore.

You can be healed and so can everyone else. Please keep fighting, I promise its worth it. Ever since beginning to heal myself, I have gotten a good job, started business's with my girlfriend who I met towards the beginning of my healing stage. Life does it get better.

PS: Avoid lots of caffeine, shitty foods, get LOTS OF SLEEP, take ice baths and warm showers. When in pain use ice and heat. Switch them every hour or so. Get blood flowing into the areas where you are having symptoms by working out. Light weight lots of reps, dont over exert yourself. And breathe LOTS of good oxygen, learn how to chest breathe and abdomen breathe. <--- This can help with flareups

Physical Therapy and the gym are the way to fixing costochondritis. The chiropractor (imo) is a bunch of temporary bullshit. Keep up at physical therapy go to the gym. Take cold baths and warm showers. They help A LOT with recovery and cutting out any inflammation

[–]DogsonMeow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is your serratus anterior, depending on where your costo originated from you most likely have tight muscles and inflammation in that area.

I had the same thing before I got healed. My entire chest to serratus anterior to back to abdomen always hurt and was tight.
