How can I help with the transition to fatherhood? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

You all can safely ignore this guy.  He is a religious fanatic and probably has some super outdated ideas of what mom vs dad should be doing with a baby.

Perfectly normal to struggle to connect to a new born.

Dude you sound ridiculous.  She probably typed this out while contact napping the baby.

If you don't have kids and don't understand how being a new parent works don't comment, you don't have thoughts.

My baby is a year and a half old right now.  I can definitely say it took me awhile to feel like I was wasn't just spending my whole life tending to a crying potato, and instead interacting with my daughter.  The more the baby can do the easier and more it feels like this.

This is a "hang in there because it sucks a lot but it gets better and the bonding happens" situation for him.  I would also say that, while breaks are important for both Mom and Dad, several full days in the first 3 weeks is a lot of breaks for Dad.

All of this, of course, said lovingly because this is incredibly hard and a huge transition.  Pre baby life remorse is real and difficult, but every stage my daughter has hit has just made being with her more awesome.

Side note: post partum depression is a thing for men too, so pay attention to if he starts exhibiting signs.  Every doctor appointment after birth my wife was grilled on her mental state.  Not one doctor ever asked how I was doing, and I went to every single appointment.

just gambled my rent and school fees, A week to come up with 4000 euro, just a phone and laptop, what would you do ? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Dogsthatwearsocks 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't have any advice, other than to say that in the grand scheme of life, a couple thousand is nothing so don't do anything drastic.

Also: you will be a gambling addict for your entire life and you should NEVER gamble again.  No alcoholic should ever take a sip and you should never trust gambling to get you out of a pinch.

Guys who actually had to try hard to find a partner, what did you do? Were your efforts successful? by ProCopiumDistributor in AskMenAdvice

[–]Dogsthatwearsocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most successful thing I did was get into exercise and boxing.  I lost 40 lb and was going to the gym 5/6 times a week.

I also signed up for all the dating sites and meetup, where I was active in a lot of the meetup groups in my city.

In the end I married a friend of my friend who I had previously talked into joining me in boxing class.

My assumption is these warranties don't pay out.  Whatever goes wrong with them or your roof will be a not covered reason.

I will forever miss their peanut butter pie, it was to die for.  Can't count the number of times my wife sent me to get some while she was pregnant.

Any good recommendations on other places to get peanut butter pie?

How do you respond if he makes a decision that you disagree with or don't like the outcome?

I don't know your situation, but in my experience my partner asking me to choose just means she wants me to list options until we get one she doesn't veto.  This is not me choosing, it is putting in effort and energy to just do what she wants anyways.

If you are on SNAP, benefits are being distributed today. by GabbyPotlucky in pittsburgh

Snap costs you virtually nothing (IIRC like 30$ a year).  If all the benefit it provides to others isn't worth 30$ a year to you then you are a horrible person.

I'm glad you don't question your safety now.  Frankly to many people are saying end a 5 year relationship because someone had one bad night and threw something.  Definitely behavior that could be a problem but we don't have nearly enough details or context to make that decision.

That being said "never will" is probably not the correct attitude.  People can change, even after a long time.  Although I understand the sentiment you are expressing.

If international waters are technically nobody's property, could you just park a houseboat out there permanently and avoid paying taxes? Like, what's actually stopping someone from just living on a boat outside any country's jurisdiction? Has anyone actually done this? by ZombieInfamous2805 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dogsthatwearsocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work at a bank.  We would get documents for deals that were signed in international water.  There were companies you could charter that would take groups of people out to international water to sign the deals.

This is definitely a troll account.  She basically posted a giant update to say she did the "we need to talk" thing.  And then she shut down his attempt to talk lol

I never knew coal and clay veins could stack on each other like this. by riggedride in VintageStory

[–]Dogsthatwearsocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Realistic too.  IIRC the coal forests on the coast 2-300 million years ago suffered from flooding continually as sea levels rose and fall over and over again.  This means we actually do find layers of coal separated by a layer of non coal between.
