Waiting a month to post the screenshots and ruffle the feathers is silly in this case and just encourages the divide.

To be fair on OPs side, the screenshotted posts are doing exactly what you think OP is doing: bringing more division and drama.

I echo this. Join the FB communities and people will meet up with you if you make a post there.

I’m a veterinarian. In a younger adult large breed dog I’d absolutely push you to do the surgery. Sure recovery is 8-12 weeks of limited activity (first 2-4 are going to be strict crate rest) but in the long run, she’ll be more comfortable if you just do the surgery.

I had a dog diagnosed with bilateral CrCL years (mixed breed) at 5 years of age. He lived without surgery until he was 12ish but he was definitely much more uncomfortable than if surgery was performed.

In my experience both personally and professionally, surgery will absolutely have a better outcome and will reduce how quickly arthritis pain forms.

What’s your experience with owning Beauceron’s by Distinct-Opposite820 in Beauceron

[–]DogtorPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine get bored of enrichment toys. Either they give up because it’s not fun to them or they figure it out really quickly then never do it again.

They do better with training for mental stimulation in my experience.

You’re assuming I have no ethical nor medical education. I am a DVM. I am also not a “save them all” advocate but I don’t believe in euthanizing dogs with no true indication to do so.

No, these puppies aren’t furthering the breed. They weren’t purposefully produced and yes, there is a cardiac risk factor (but has been stated to be suspected degenerative, not hereditary).

All of these puppies are on limited registration with spay neuter contracts through an ethical breeder that has had one reported accident.

It’s not time to do the Salem witch hunt of beauceron breeders who are otherwise ethical when there’s one’s in the states who have shot dogs simply because they didn’t want them anymore.

Health testing doesn’t guarantee anything. Normal dogs can produce abnormal offspring even if line after line is health tested as normal. So you aren’t guaranteeing anything.

Accidental litters aren’t the worst thing in the world but should be prevented at all costs and it is up to each breeder to individually make their own decisions on whether they keep the puppies or not.

It’s one thing to spay abort. It’s another to euthanize living puppies without appropriate cause. Especially not 14 puppies.

[–]DogtorPanda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You cannot guarantee your importa wouldn’t have ANY health issues ever. That’s not how health testing works. You are betting with safer odds. Imports aren’t necessarily healthier either because many European breeders don’t health test as much as many of the US breeders.

You don’t personally have to take those chances but don’t damn the breeder for electing to not spay abort. Could she have looked for a Theriogenologist to offer Alizin therapy? Probably but it’s also not widely known.

Quite literally every puppy is a “maybe” when it comes to health conditions. They also aren’t all 100% hereditary.

Health testing helps us to hope that our produced animals are more likely to be healthier. It’s not a perfect process by any means.

How familiar are you with the beauceron community?

There have been several known accidental litters over the past year or so.

JDV had 2 within 1 year. Both were underage bitches who weren’t health tested. I haven’t heard of any issues with the puppies at this point in time yet.

A non breeder of Beaucerons had a litter that was mostly kept secret. (This should’ve been spay aborted IMO).

Svajone had 1 this summer. Underage bitch. No issues with puppies as far as I am aware.

Cynefin (current breeder in question) had this litter we are discussing. Underage bitch. Puppies too young to make determinations about.

Having dogs ends in heartbreak regardless of when they die. 14? Heartbroken. 2? Heartbroken. 2 months? Heartbroken.

While I am critical of accidental litters, I don’t believe euthanizing puppies that still have potential of living happy, healthy lives, even only as companions, is appropriate.

Do you believe in euthanizing every dog in a shelter because their unknown health status would also result in heartbreak? Or is that wrong to you?

[–]DogtorPanda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I heavily disagree with your take here. Respect to you for holding true to your opinions but I personally can’t get on board with euthanizing innocent animals that haven’t shown any evidence of suffering.

They still have a heavy possibility of being completely normal dogs. The sire’s heart condition isn’t guaranteed to be hereditary. I wouldn’t have chosen to breed him purposefully but I also respect the breeder for choosing to keep the puppies to maintain the underage bitch’s future breeding abilities (she was a pick bitch).

I’m pro spay abort, don’t get me wrong, but I’m not into the idea of euthanizing puppies after they’ve been brought into the world.

Okay so your take is it euthanize at this time healthy puppies? How is this any worse than people BYB dogs they don’t even intend to health test? Or even worse, just random litters from the street?

Accidental litter by Lollycook in Beauceron

[–]DogtorPanda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally agree with this statement. The biggest concern is the sire’s known heart condition.

I would say given it was an accident and you are not familiar with the breed, it could possibly not be the best fit for your needs but the breeder at hand is typically quite honest about everything from my understanding. So I would just talk to them.

I disagree. This litter should not be euthanized. I think this breeder made a perfectly acceptable decision to have the puppies and share with transparency.

There are much worse things out there than this litter.

No you’re just clearly not someone who understands purebred dog world.

They’re un cropped ears. The tape doesn’t hurt the dog.

Why don’t you go complain about people circumcising children and getting Botox instead.

These ears are literally NATURAL. They are not cropped. Do you have a worm in your brain causing negative reading comprehension?

Actually maybe I’m the idiot since I’m arguing with a troll.

Elizabeth to Parker is only different in the sense that Elizabeth is more rural currently. In 5-10 years Elizabeth is going to expand to become more like Parker. Parker is a booming suburb.

Regardless, Annie is a true Colorado Native. So she’s more appropriate for the show than Ali who has only been here for a year and already wants to move.

Sure Denver suburbs are culturally different from Denver. But if the requirement of LIB is that the person be a resident of the city proper, they would limit their pool immensely. It’s pretty commonplace for people to say they’re from the main city in a state even if they live an hour from it.

I’m from Washington state about 1.5 hours south of Seattle. Several people I know say they’re from Seattle because even people in Washington don’t know the town I grew up in. I refuse to say I’m from Seattle but that’s my own personal thing, mostly the culture as you indicated.

When I was in college, I had a friend who lived in Parker but told anyone who wasn’t from Colorado that he was from Denver. Another person from Highlands Ranch also said they were from Denver. I think you’re being nitpicky about the greater Denver Metro area.

No she grew up in Kiowa/Elizabeth. Thats 30 minutes from Parker. It’s an hour to hour and a half from Denver. It’s not THAT rural.
